Specialization: facade finishing, interior finishing, construction of dachas, garages. The experience of an amateur gardener and horticulturist. He also has experience repairing cars and motorcycles. Hobbies: playing the guitar and much more, for which there is not enough time :)

Plastic pipes in water supply and heating systems have gradually replaced metal counterparts, and the most popular of them are polypropylene products. They are quite durable and have good performance, the only thing is that their installation for beginners usually raises a number of questions. Therefore, further I will tell you how to install polypropylene pipes with your own hands, and you will see that there is nothing complicated in this.

Pipeline installation

Installation of polypropylene pipes, as, in fact, any other, includes several stages:

Wiring diagram

So, do-it-yourself installation of polypropylene pipes, regardless of the purpose of the pipeline, begins with drawing up a diagram. In the process of performing this operation, it is necessary to solve the following tasks:

  • determine the most optimal location of the pipeline;
  • designate the length of all sections of the water supply;
  • indicate the location and number of fittings;
  • marking the location of the pipeline on the walls.

That's why drawing up the scheme must be done very carefully, with all dimensions in millimeters. For convenience, you can use the housing plan.

materials

As mentioned above, the number of fittings depends on the wiring diagram. In addition, in addition to fittings, brackets may be needed to fix the pipeline in the wall if the installation is open. We will talk in more detail about the methods of installing the pipeline below.

Separately, it should be said about the choice of the polypropylene pipes themselves. The fact is that they exist of several brands:

  • PN 10 - PN 16 - can be used exclusively for cold water supply;
  • PN 20 - PN 25 - suitable for heating and hot water. This brand is more expensive - the cost of 1mp PN 25 is from 50 to 250 rubles, depending on the manufacturer.

Assembly

Do-it-yourself installation and soldering of polypropylene pipes is not difficult, thanks to which you can cope with this task even without being a specialist. The only thing is that for this you need to have a special welding machine and nozzles of a suitable diameter.

In addition, you will need some other tool:

  • cleaning - designed to remove the upper reinforcing layer, which is necessary for high-quality parts;
  • pipe cutter - allows you to cut pipes straight.

If you want to assemble the pipeline without welding, you can use metal-plastic pipes that are connected by compression fittings.

The technology for connecting parts is as follows:

  1. first of all, you need to cut the pipes into segments of the desired length;
  2. then you need to turn on the soldering iron (welding machine) and warm it up. Moreover, before starting welding, you need to wait until the device warms up several times to the maximum temperature and turns off. Light indicators testify to it;

  1. while the soldering iron is warming up, it is necessary to clean the ends of the pipes. To do this, a strip is put on them and rotated. This procedure is reminiscent of stripping pencils with shavings;
  2. after all the parts are prepared and the soldering iron is heated, insert the pipe and fitting into the nozzles. In this case, it is important to withstand the exact time to be connected parts. The latter depends on the diameter of the pipeline and is usually indicated in the table supplied with the device;

In the photo - the order of connection of parts

  1. when the plastic warms up, the parts must be pulled out of the nozzles and connected to each other. In this position, they should be held for a while until the plastic hardens;
  2. according to this principle, all parts of the pipeline are connected.

If you are doing this kind of work for the first time, before you start manufacturing the pipeline, you should practice connecting pipe trimmings with fittings.

Mounting methods

Installation of a polypropylene pipeline in a room can be done in two ways:

  • open - pipes are attached to the walls using special brackets. This method is the simplest, however, less aesthetic, since communications spoil the appearance of the interior;
  • hidden - in this case, the pipes are located in the strobes made in the wall, after which they are plastered. I must say that it is quite difficult to correctly perform the hidden installation of polypropylene pipes, since they are highly susceptible to thermal expansion.

Installation in an open way is carried out in the following sequence:

  • according to the markings made on the walls, special brackets are installed. First of all, they are mounted in places of turns, as well as on flat areas with a step of a meter and a half;
  • further, pipes are inserted into the brackets and connected to the fittings. For convenience, you can collect individual sections of the pipeline and then fix them in brackets, and then connect them to each other.

The do-it-yourself hidden installation process looks a little different:

  1. first you need to perform according to the marking of the strobe. Their width should be twice the width of the pipe. This is necessary so that the thermal insulation of the pipes, as well as the plaster, can fit in them.
    To perform a strobe, use a puncher with a chisel turned on in impact mode;
  2. then large sections of the pipeline are assembled and placed in strobes. To fix the structure, use brackets or holders;
  3. then all elements of the system are connected to each other;
  4. if the design is successful, heat-insulating covers are put on the pipes;
  5. then the strobes are sealed with cement mortar.

Before sealing the strobes, they must be cleaned of dust. This is necessary for high-quality adhesion of cement.

It should be noted that concealed installation requires compliance with certain rules:

  • compensators must be provided in the system, since polypropylene pipes expand greatly (up to 5 mm per meter);
  • detachable fittings must always remain unwalled;
  • Before sealing the strobes, the pipeline must be checked.

Here, in fact, is the entire instruction for the installation of polypropylene pipes.

Output

As we found out, it is quite simple to assemble a pipeline from polypropylene pipes. The main thing is to learn how to work with a soldering iron, for which you just need to fill your hand a little. Otherwise, you just need to follow a certain sequence of actions.

Pipes made of polypropylene began to be made not so long ago, but have already become very widespread. Their widespread use is facilitated by a combination of low cost and excellent technical characteristics.

From polypropylene pipelines, water supply and heating systems are laid both in new houses and in old ones instead of obsolete metal ones. But their application is not limited to this. This article will discuss how to install a polypropylene pipeline yourself.

Advantages of polypropylene

Polypropylene pipes are great for installing heating, water supply or sewerage systems. They have low thermal conductivity, are not affected by moisture and external factors.

Polypropylene is an environmentally friendly material. It does not affect the environment during operation and the quality of the water supplied, which is very important for drinking water supply.

The low weight of polypropylene contributes to the ease of transportation of pipes and their installation. The warranty period declared by the manufacturers for such pipes is at least 50 years.

Polypropylene pipe marking

The choice of one or another type of polypropylene pipe depends on its future purpose. The most common are:

  • PN10 - used for cold water supply;
  • PN20 - for cold and hot water supply, as well as sewage;
  • PN25 - for heating.

The PN25 pipe differs from the PN20 pipe in the presence of a special reinforcement that prevents deformation under the action of high temperature water.

Installation of a polypropylene pipeline is carried out using connecting fittings - fittings:

  • couplings - transition of the pipeline to another diameter, material or threaded connection;
  • corners - changing the direction of laying the pipeline (90⁰ or 45⁰);
  • tees - branch device.

When choosing pipes and fittings made of polypropylene, in addition to low cost, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality of the workmanship of the part.

Tools for mounting polypropylene pipes

For the installation of a polypropylene pipeline, the following special tools will be required.

  • Soldering iron pipes made of polypropylene. This tool has a limited purpose, but you should not save on it, because the quality of the connecting seams and the speed of work depend on the correct heating of the pipe. In addition, a cheap option can quickly fail.
  • A set of nozzles for a soldering iron usually comes with the soldering iron itself. Various nozzles are used to connect pipelines of various diameters.

  • The soldering iron stand will ensure the convenience and safety of the installation.
  • Pipe cutter (scissors for polypropylene pipes). Without such a tool, it will not work to make a high-quality smooth cut of the pipe.
  • Shaver for removing aluminum reinforcement at the joint.

Before performing work, you should draw a diagram of the future pipeline with turns, branches and dimensions. Then read the theory on this subject and practice soldering on unnecessary pipe cuts.

Connection of polypropylene pipes

The durable future heating or plumbing system depends on the quality of the solder joints. The connection of plastic pipes is divided into stages:

Measure the required length of the pipe and cut with a pipe cutter. When using a non-specialized tool, for example, a grinder, for a quality connection with a fitting, pay attention to the cut - it must be even.

If there is a reinforcing layer, it must be removed to the entire depth of entry into the fitting, otherwise the aluminum foil will not melt the polypropylene and make a quality connection. To determine the depth, attach the pipe to the fitting and make a mark with a gap of 1 mm, which will remain after the connection.

The nozzles are fixed on the soldering iron, after which it is put on heating. When the soldering iron is heated to the required temperature, the pipe and fitting are simultaneously put on the nozzle, pushing and achieving uniform melting throughout the entire depth of the joint. All actions should be carried out quickly and accurately.

Excessive melting and thinning of the walls should not be allowed. After heating the pipe and fitting to the desired depth, quickly remove them and connect them. Pay attention to the fact that the connection is even, you only have a dozen of the first seconds to fix, then the propylene will begin to set.

Work in a well ventilated area as melting produces toxic fumes and take breaks from time to time.

Do-it-yourself repair of a heating pipeline made of polypropylene

In an apartment building, if a coolant leaks in the heating system from plastic pipes, it is impossible to make independent repairs. But if this happened in a private house, it is permissible to carry out independent repairs.

It is better to carry out repairs in the warm period. Although the work does not take much time, restarting the heating system may be delayed.

  • Before starting work, turn off the boiler and empty the heating system.
  • It is necessary to provide access to the damaged area. If the area is behind a drywall wall, then a rectangular cutout is made in the wall.

  • By pulling on itself, the fixed pipe is released from the brackets. A fire-resistant spacer is installed between the wall and the pipe, then the damaged section of the pipeline is cut out with a pipe cutter.
  • Using a soldering iron and fittings, a new section of the pipeline is mounted in the manner described above.
  • After the work is completed, the drained water is returned to the system, which will simplify the start-up of the system. However, dirty water needs to be changed.

Do-it-yourself drip irrigation from polypropylene

The technical qualities of plastic pipes make it possible to use them for drip irrigation in the garden. They are not afraid of external natural influences, therefore, they do not need to be further processed.

The drip irrigation system is perfect for growing vegetables, berries, trees. It is extremely simple to perform and will cost much cheaper than the original. Work on its installation is carried out in several stages:

You should start with an image of a diagram of the site on which the beds and the pipeline for irrigation are located. The scheme allows you to determine the required length of pipes and the number of fittings for them.

Holes are made in pipes with the desired frequency with an awl. For vegetables and berries, the interval is 30-40 cm. If the diameter of the holes is small, after testing the system, they can be increased. After preparation, the pipes are placed at the installation site.

The ends of perforated pipes are closed with special fittings. Pipes can be laid both between rows and along the edge of the beds close to the plants. During drip irrigation, moisture will be absorbed by the root without moistening the stem of the plant.

To securely fix the pipeline and prevent soil from entering the holes, it is better to place the pipes on bars or supports at a low height.

The connection of pipes with holes into a solid pipe is made by soldering couplings. The length of the pipes before cutting is best determined at the place of laying.

After connecting the pipes to each other, they are combined into one pipeline going to the irrigation water tank. To ensure pressure in the irrigation pipeline, the tank must be located at least 1.5 m above the level of the surface of the beds.

To limit the water supply, a tap is mounted immediately after the tank. It allows you to create an optimal irrigation regime or stop it altogether.

Unusual use of propylene pipes

You can make a lot of useful things from plastic pipes, just learn how to use a soldering iron and stock up on a variety of fittings.

There are many options for making chairs. The legs can be made by connecting U-shaped pipes with a diameter of 20-25 mm. A pipe welded along the perimeter from above or below will allow them to be strengthened. After that, the back of the required size is soldered, and a chipboard sheet is screwed onto the legs, which can first be covered with a cloth stuffed with foam rubber.

Furniture made of polypropylene is well suited for giving. Also, more and more often you can find greenhouses and hotbeds made of polypropylene pipes. This design is quite durable, and low weight makes it possible to assemble and disassemble it without any extra effort.

A small greenhouse can be made by putting a pipe on a metal wedge previously driven into the ground, then bending it and putting the other end on another wedge. After bending several pipes, such a structure can be covered with a film, and then attached with brackets.

In the manufacture of the greenhouse, the ends of the pipes should be concreted, and several pipes should be passed to increase the rigidity of the structure. Subsequently, they can be used to tie tall plants.

You can make a small gazebo from plastic pipes. The drawing is not difficult to find on the net; rather heavy metal is replaced with plastic. However, even in this case, it is better to choose pipes of large diameter. Lightweight durable material, such as polycarbonate, is suitable as a roof. This option is not the most economical, but it is simpler and more affordable than metal cooking. The canopy is mounted in the same way.

The storage shelf system will fit well in the cellar, nursery, closet, wardrobe, etc. Fastening to the wall allows you to perceive a large load, and making such a design is not difficult. Having assembled a small module, according to the same principle, you can make a rack with any number of shelves that can be cut from laminated chipboard or painted plywood.

Photo of installation of polypropylene pipes

New technologies and materials in construction appear constantly, gradually replacing traditional materials. A good example of this is plumbing. Fifteen years ago, metal was used in most cases - in general, there was no alternative. Today, almost everywhere, metal is replaced with polymers, since they are easier to install, cost less, last the same or even more. One of the most popular modern materials is propylene. Installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes is good because you can do it yourself. This will require a special soldering iron and some experience. A soldering iron can be rented, and experience is acquired. You can practice on the most inexpensive fittings and small pieces of pipe.

Marking and scope

It is necessary to start the installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes by choosing the type of pipes. They are single-layer and three-layer, they also differ in wall thickness and, accordingly, have different purposes. To make it easier to navigate, they are marked:

  • PN10 - single-layer pipes designed for cold water in pipelines with low pressure. Suitable for distributing polypropylene plumbing in private homes.
  • PN16 - single-layer pipes with a thicker wall. They can be used both for transporting cold water in systems with increased pressure (centralized), and for distributing the DHW system. The maximum allowable temperature is +50°C.
  • PN20 - three-layer pipes with a fiberglass reinforcing layer. They can be used for the installation of a water supply system for transporting hot water, low-temperature heating systems. Maximum temperature +90°C.
  • PN25 - three-layer pipes reinforced with aluminum foil. They are mainly used for heating, they can be used for hot water supply, but this is not economically feasible: these are the most expensive pipes, and their qualities for hot water supply are excessive.

By colors there are pipes made of gray and white polypropylene. This is not displayed in any way on quality, so choose according to aesthetic preferences. Some firms (mostly German) paint their products green. If the wiring is hidden - in the walls or in the floor - you won’t find anything better, since the Germans are leaders in quality.

To make it easier to navigate by area of application, colored stripes are applied along the PPR pipes. Those designed for cold water are marked in blue (light blue), those for hot water and heating are marked in red, universal ones are marked in orange. Some manufacturers have different markings. They mark products for heating and hot water in red, and do not apply markings to those intended for cold.

From the above, the following conclusions can be drawn: it is better to install a water supply system from polypropylene pipes in an apartment from PN 16 for cold water and PN20 for hot water. In a private house, you can get by with PN 10 for cold water and PN 20 for hot water.

Mounting Features

Single-layer PPR pipes PN 10 and PN 16 have a large coefficient of thermal expansion: with a temperature difference of 100 ° C, each meter becomes 1.5 cm longer. Even taking into account the fact that such a temperature difference is unattainable in real life, this is a very large figure. To prevent this increase in length from destroying the water supply system, compensation loops (compensators) are provided in the system.

Types of expansion joints for polypropylene water pipes

If the length of the pipeline is small and cold water is diluted at the same time, the compensator can be omitted - the difference in length will be small, but it is advisable to make at least an elementary L-shaped compensator for hot water supply (see figure).

Connection principle

Polypropylene pipes have a lot of advantages, but one of the disadvantages is that they do not bend. Therefore, when installing a water supply system from polypropylene pipes, fittings are used for all branches and turns. These are special elements - tees, angles, adapters, couplings, etc. There are also taps, compensators, bypasses and other elements of the system, also made of polypropylene.

All these elements with pipes are connected by soldering. The material of both parts to be joined is heated until melted, then joined. As a result, the connection is monolithic, so the reliability of the polypropylene plumbing is very high. Read more about soldering and the tools needed for this.

To connect with other materials (metal), to switch to household appliances or plumbing fixtures, there are special fittings. On the one hand, they are completely polypropylene, on the other, they have a metal thread. The size of the thread and its type is selected according to the type of connected device.

System planning

Due to the fact that the PPR pipes do not bend, it is necessary to develop a wiring diagram in such a way that there are as few detours and turns as possible. After all, they are all made using fittings, and they have a solid cost (compared to a pipe). Therefore, we try to optimize the wiring - to make as few turns, detours and bends as possible.

Serial (tee) connection

Installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes with a serial connection of consumers (plumbing and household appliances) is used in small systems. Usually they have 5-6 connection points. With such an organization of the water supply system, one pipe departs from the riser, it sequentially bypasses all connection points. In the case of PPR plumbing, all branches are made using tees, therefore this type is also called a tee.

Installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes by connecting consumers in series

The advantage of this system is that a small number of pipes are needed, and the minus is that the pressure on each branch drops. As a result, with one or two working points of analysis, the third, located further from the riser, the pressure may simply not be enough.

Parallel (collector) wiring

A parallel connection scheme is also called a collector. This is because after the tap from the riser, a special device is installed - a collector. This is an element with one input and some number of outputs. Available in polypropylene and metal. For plumbing, polypropylene manifolds are more suitable (and cheaper).

The connection scheme is such that a separate pipe stretches from each branch to each consumer (sometimes to a small group of consumers).

The advantage of such a system: the pressure at all points of water analysis is the same, the disadvantage is that a lot of pipes are required. Another plus is that if any branch fails, only one consumer does not work. The rest of the system functions normally. By the way, in order to be able to turn off individual devices, valves are installed at the outlet of the collector (usually ball valves, but if you want the ability to adjust the pressure, you can put a valve).

Plumbing and household appliances

In each of the methods of installing a water supply system from polypropylene pipes, a pipe is suitable for a specific consumer. There are two ways to connect to the system: flexible and rigid piping.

Hard connection is more reliable: PPR pipes and fittings have high strength. In addition, in this case there is only one thread - at the point of connection of the consumer. But this type of eyeliner requires high precision: the error can be only a few millimeters. It is difficult to achieve this when installing a polypropylene water supply system with your own hands, therefore flexible piping is more often used. Just be careful, in some cases its use is impossible: it is recommended to connect gas boilers or gas water heaters, supply water to, only using a hard connection.

Soft eyeliner, on the contrary, does not require high accuracy - errors are leveled by a flexible hose in a stainless steel braid or a hose that is used for or a dishwasher. Tubes are brought out approximately in the area where appliances are installed or plumbing is connected. It ends with an adapter for metal, to which a flexible hose is connected (it is connected to the device with its second end).

This option is less reliable, since a lot depends on the quality of the flexible eyeliner. Also, not the most pleasant moment is the presence of two threaded connections, and this is a potential place for a leak to appear.

Internal or external laying

One of the advantages of polypropylene plumbing is that it can be easily embedded in walls and floors. This material does not corrode, does not react with any materials, and does not conduct stray currents. In general, if the connection is made correctly, pipes can be hidden into the wall or into the floor without any problems. The whole catch is to make a quality connection.

To make sure that the assembled system does not leak, it is checked - it is carried out with excess pressure. There are special devices for this. They connect, pump water, increase pressure. Under this pressure, the water supply is left for several days. If no leaks were found, then at operating pressure everything will work for a long time and without problems.

Installation rules

Before starting work, it is necessary to draw up a diagram, mark on it all the necessary fittings and elements of the system (meters, filters, taps, etc.), put down the dimensions of the pipe sections between them. According to this scheme, we then consider what and how much is needed.

When purchasing a pipe, take it with some margin (a meter or two), fittings can be taken exactly according to the list. It does not hurt to agree on the possibility of a return or exchange. This may be necessary, since often in the process, the installation of a water supply system from polypropylene pipes throws up some surprises. They are mainly due to lack of experience, not to the material itself, and happen quite often even with masters.

In addition to pipes and fittings, you will also need clips that attach everything to the walls. They are installed on the pipeline after 50 cm, as well as near the end of each branch. These clips are plastic, there are metal - staples and clamps with a rubber gasket.

For open laying of pipelines in technical rooms it is more convenient to use brackets, for better aesthetics - for open laying of pipes in the bathroom or in the kitchen - they use plastic clips of the same color as the pipes themselves.

Now a little about assembly rules. The system itself can be assembled immediately by cutting pipe sections of the required length, constantly referring to the diagram. So it is more convenient to solder. But, with a lack of experience, this is fraught with errors - you must accurately measure and do not forget to add 15-18 millimeters (depending on the diameter of the pipes) that go into the fitting.

Therefore, it is more rational to draw a system on the wall, designate all fittings and elements. You can even attach them and trace the contours. This will make it easier to evaluate the system itself and identify shortcomings and errors, if any. This approach is more correct, as it gives greater accuracy.

Next, the pipes are cut as needed, fragments of several elements are connected on the floor or desktop. Then the finished fragment is set in place. This sequence of actions is the most rational.

And about how to quickly and correctly cut pipe sections of the desired length and not be mistaken.

Purchase pipes made of polypropylene. The material used in the manufacture of pipes extends their service life up to 50 years. The polypropylene pipe does not rust, therefore it does not require painting, and welding is not required when installing the pipeline. In this article, we will talk about the installation of polypropylene pipes with our own hands, give step-by-step instructions, and also demonstrate photo and video materials.

Mounting Benefits

The installation of the pipeline does not require welding. All connections are made by soldering. The pipe is joined in the fitting, and then soldered with a special coupling. The advantage of this soldering is that already one hour after soldering the entire system, the pipeline is ready for use.

Tool preparation

In addition to having all the necessary parts and materials, it is necessary to prepare all the tools to perform the installation of the pipeline.

  1. The most important tool for work is a soldering iron, with which couplings will be soldered. Buying this tool, you should not save. This can affect the quality of soldering and the speed of work, and the soldering iron itself can stop working very quickly. A high-quality soldering iron will not harm the Teflon coating layer of the nozzles during long work.
  2. For soldering, you will need nozzles for pipes. Basically, they come with a soldering iron.
  3. The main part of the work will be done stationary, so a stand is needed for the soldering iron.
  4. To cut off the desired section of the pipe, you will need special wire cutters, you can use a pipe cutter.
  5. The aluminum layer is removed from the pipe using a shaver.
  6. In order for the soldered pipe to freely enter the fitting, it will be necessary to chamfer the edge of the pipe using a beveler.

First visit the hardware store and buy all the necessary tools.

What can you save on

Soldering a polypropylene pipe with improvised means will not work. But still, on some tools you can save. If there is a small amount of work to be done, wire cutters or a pipe cutter can be crossed off the shopping list. Cutting the pipe can be done with a grinder. The shaver is used only if there is an aluminum layer. If this layer is missing, then the tool can not be bought.

Work plan

Having decided on an independent installation of the pipeline, it is necessary to draw up a plan for the work performed. It is required to calculate everything so that the soldering of the couplings in most cases does not take place on weight, but stationary. At the end of the work, it remains only to connect the entire system and solder the last connection points.

Before starting work, there must be a carefully designed pipeline diagram. This will greatly facilitate the working conditions, and you will not have to buy extra materials. Properly performed calculation will allow you to perform all the inconvenient soldering places on the table.

Features of soldering pipeline

To perform strong soldering, the outer edge of the pipe and the inner side of the coupling are heated. Only that section of the pipe that is completely included in the coupling warms up. After connecting the heated areas, polypropylene is soldered.

At the beginning of soldering, it is necessary to prepare the material itself. The required length of the pipe is measured and cut off. On the edge of the cut pipe, on the outside, a chamfer is removed with a depth of 3 mm, and at an inclination of at least 15 degrees. The edges of the soldered materials are cleaned of contamination and degreased with a special solution. And only now you can solder the product.

Pipe soldering

  • Before starting soldering, the soldering iron is placed on the table using a stand and connected to the mains. Soldering takes place at a temperature of 260°C. Therefore, if the soldering iron has a temperature controller, it must be set to this value. For your information: at other temperatures, soldering of products is not performed. Therefore, you should not overpay for the purchase of a soldering iron with a temperature controller.
  • When the soldering iron is fully warmed up, you can begin the process of welding parts. The fitting must warm up simultaneously with the pipe, so a fitting is put on one side of the special pin; the pipe inserted into the sleeve is put on the second side of the heater. After full warming up, the parts are quickly removed from the soldering iron and connected.
  • When soldering, it is necessary to observe the warm-up time of the parts, otherwise the part will quickly deform and become unsuitable for connection. An insufficiently heated part cannot be reliably soldered, resulting in a leak at the junction.

To determine the heating time, a table has been developed that is used by specialists when installing polypropylene pipes.

Pipe diameter, mm

Welding belt width, mm

Heating time, sec

Connection time, sec

Cooling time, min

  • The pipe is inserted into the sleeve with little effort, as is the fitting put on the heater rod. This is due to the design of the cone nozzle, which is made at an angle of 5 degrees. Only the middle of the fitting matches the diameter of the pipe.
  • Before heating the pipe, it is necessary to measure the depth of the edge of the sleeve. The measured distance must be marked on the edge of the inserted pipe. This is necessary in order not to exert excessive pressure on the pipe. Otherwise, the soft edge of the pipe may collapse in the form of a thickening, which will lead to a decrease in the cross section of the pipe. With experience, this emphasis will be felt automatically.
  • After heating, the connection of the pipe with the coupling is carried out quickly. The pipe is inserted into the coupling strictly straight, without turning. It will only take a couple of seconds to correct the connection. After cooling, they will stick together, and the applied force to correct the connection may spoil the quality of the soldering.

System installation

Installation of the pipeline system around the house begins after the preliminary soldering of all its parts. For ease of installation, it is desirable to do as much soldering of the turns and fittings as possible in a stationary position. For soldering on weight, there should be transitions in the walls and connection points for plumbing fixtures. Places of fastening of the pipeline are marked on the wall and holes are drilled according to the marking. Using dowels, clamps are attached to the wall, and pipes are inserted into them.

When installing heating in a house, keep in mind that a polypropylene pipe cannot be attached to a heating boiler. The boiler is connected by a transition fitting connected to a metal pipe. The adapter pipe must be at least 50 cm long and must be connected directly to the heater.

Unlike threaded connections, soldering is not serviceable. Therefore, the pipeline can be hidden in the wall so as not to disturb the beauty of the interior of the house. True, such installation must be carried out after a thorough test of the pipeline with water under pressure.

In this article, we examined the main issues related to the implementation, you see, there is nothing complicated and scary about it. Perform the installation of polypropylene pipes first for yourself, and then, having acquired the skill, you can consider this work as a source of additional income.

With the development of advanced technologies and the development of new materials, polypropylene (plastic) pipes appeared on the construction market. Due to their affordable price, ease of use and high performance, they have rapidly gained popularity in sanitary works.

This article contains a brief description of plastic products, information on how to install polypropylene pipes + instructions for installing systems made of these materials.

Varieties of polypropylene

There are several types of propylene.

The main ones are:

  1. Homopolypropylene. Sufficiently hard polymer, resistant to bending.
    It may contain various additives that significantly change the characteristics of the material.
  • 1.1. Antistatic additives prevent dust build-up.
  • 1.2. Nucleators impart transparency to the material.
  • 1.3. Flame retardants make plastic more fire resistant.
  1. Polypropylene block copolymer has high elasticity and impact resistance. Resistant to alkalis and acids at high temperatures.
    The most common method of modifying this polymer is the introduction of flame retardants and antistatic additives into the composition.
  2. Polypropylene stat copolymer It has two varieties: transparent and opaque. Transparent is more often used for the production of food containers, and opaque - in hot water supply.

Despite the low cost, it is quite durable and reliable material.

Types and scope of polypropylene pipes

- a monolithic product. The modern market provides its various types.

Widely used:

  • PPH from homopolypropylene. The main areas of its application are industrial pipelines, cold water supply, ventilation.
  • RRW from a block copolymer of polypropylene. It is used in cold water supply, floor heating systems.
  • PPR made of stat-copolymer polypropylene. Finds application in cold and hot water supply, water and floor heating systems.
  • PPs– made of heat-resistant polypropylene. The maximum temperature of its working environment is 95 °C.

In almost any pipeline, the installation of polypropylene pipes is permissible. They are used in heating and sewage systems, for supplying drinking or industrial water. They can be successfully used in repair work to replace damaged sections of metal pipes.

Polypropylene communications are pipes of various thicknesses and diameters. They can be purely plastic or reinforced.

In cold water supply, pipes made of homogeneous polypropylene are mainly used. For hot water supply and heating systems, they are reinforced with aluminum foil. This technique helps to significantly reduce temperature elongations, which are pronounced in homogeneous polymer pipes.

The walls of the reinforced pipes are three-layered - two layers of plastic enclose aluminum between themselves. For a perforated pipe, aluminum reinforcement is made in the form of a mesh with a small mesh diameter. Such a device has a high resistance to rupture and provides reliability under high pressure loads.

Installation of polypropylene pipes

If the instructions are followed during the work, the installation of polypropylene pipes is quite simple. The system is easily installed by soldering the ends of the pipes with special nozzles. The joints are reliable.

Subject to the technology, regardless of the number, welding joints do not affect the reliability of the pipeline.

The second option for connecting pipes is the use of special fittings. This is especially true when connecting pipes to metal parts.

Despite the easy assembly and other advantages of plastic pipes, it is better to entrust their installation to professionals.

Do not neglect the protection of PPR pipes from freezing. The pipes themselves, due to their elasticity, withstand the freezing of water inside them.

But the metal parts of the pipeline, including valves, will suffer from this.

Installation instructions

These installation instructions for polypropylene pipes will help you avoid mistakes when installing pipelines.

General information

Damaged or contaminated material and parts must not be used for work. During transportation, storage and installation, all material should be protected from mechanical damage and open flame.

During installation, the air temperature at the place of work should not be lower than +5 °C. The quality of the connections depends on this.

Bending pipes without heating can be carried out at a temperature of +15 °C and above.

For pipes with a diameter of 16-32 mm, the bending radius cannot be less than eight diameters of the pipe being bent.

To cross pipelines, a special part is used - crossing.

Connect polypropylene parts using polyfusion welding, butt welding or electrofittings.

When connecting with threaded fittings, special sealing materials are used. Threading the pipe is prohibited.

For the installation of polypropylene pipes, the instruction contains recommendations that ensure high-quality performance of work.

Pipeline laying

When installing the pipeline, a minimum slope towards low places should be maintained - 0.5%. It provides for the possibility of draining using drain taps or drainage valves.

The pipeline must be divided into sections that can be blocked if necessary. For this, valves and ball valves are installed. First check their performance.

At the points of installation of water fittings, the pipeline is terminated with wall brackets or a wall kit. It is adjustable along the axes depending on the type of mixer.

Wall brackets and kits must be closed with plastic plugs before installing water fittings.

This will protect them from clogging and damage.

Wall bends should preferably be mounted on a rigid wall kit holder. It will keep your knees stable.

For the distributing pipeline, pipes with a diameter of 16-20 mm are used. They fit into a prepared channel or strobe.

When laying a pipeline route, one should take into account the tendency of polypropylene to linear thermal expansions. Therefore, when installing an insulated pipeline, the gutter must be free.

When the installation of polypropylene pipes is carried out in the installation shafts, the fastening is carried out using supports, holders and clamps.

Pipes are laid in floor or ceiling structures in protective flexible pipes. They will protect the pipeline and, due to the air space, provide thermal insulation.

Installation of risers

The risers must be mounted taking into account the placement of fixed supports and the creation of free compensation for linear expansion. Compensation is provided by movable supports at the base and at the top of the riser.

The division of the riser into several compensation sections is carried out by installing fixed supports. Between the fixed supports provide compensation for the expansion of pipes.

Pipes can only be cut with a well-ground sharp tool. It is recommended to use a cutting tool designed for plastic pipes or special scissors for this purpose.

Connection of transitions from plastic to metal in heating and hot water systems, only transitions with a press-fitted nickel-plated brass insert can be used. In this case, the threaded connections are tightened with a tape wrench.

The installation instructions for polypropylene pipes recommend sealing threaded connections using Teflon thread or tape, or a special sealing paste.

Welding

For splicing polypropylene pipes, in addition to fittings, you can use welding - polyfusion, butt or using an electrical fitting.

The most common method is diffuse welding. It is based on the physical and chemical features of the material. Polypropylene for a strong connection is enough to heat up to +260 C and press down tightly. When cooled, a reliable connection is formed.

The high technical characteristics of polypropylene pipes have made them leaders in the construction market.
