  • Main article: Quests (Dawnguard)

ancient technology(orig. Ancient Technology) is a side quest for the Dawnguard faction in the expansion. The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

Description

If Dovahkiin has joined the Dawnguard, Sorin Jurar will periodically send him to random Dwemer ruins or bandit hideouts. The task of the quest is to find Dwemer weapon blueprints. The desired scheme is always located in the “most important chest” of the location.

The quest is given six times. Each time, the reward is a random enchanted item, as well as the ability to craft a new item:

  1. Improved crossbow;
  2. Exploding steel bolt of fire;
  3. Exploding Steel Bolt of Frost;
  4. Exploding steel electricity bolt;
  5. Dwarven crossbow, Dwarven bolts (both normal and enchanted). In addition, Sorin starts selling such bolts.
  6. Improved Dwemer crossbow.

In fact, this quest balances the quests of the Volkihar clan for obtaining character-enhancing special items - "Rings of Blood Magic" and "Amulets of the Power of the Night".

Notes

  • You can only forge these items in the Fort of the Guard, in the forge of Gunmar.
  • Detailed characteristics of new products are collected in the article "Crossbows and bolts".
  • After completing each task, the object of the search appears for sale from Sorin Jurar.

passage

Bugs

  • Sometimes the quest marker is missing from both the compass and the map, in which case check Solstheim.
  • If you help Sorin with all the technologies before Isran asks the protagonist about it, then the radiant quest "Help Sorin with her crossbow improvement project" in the miscellaneous section will be impossible to complete.
    • Solution: type in the console SetObjectiveCompleted DLC1Radiant 20 1 .
It is enough to approach any member of the guardians of the dawn in order to receive the task. You come up and ask: "How can I help?". You are sent to a certain person, and he gives you a task.

Cleansing light.

This quest is given by Ganmar. He will ask you to kill the inhabitant of the cave - the Vampire - the owner of the night, and he will not mind if you also destroy everyone who wants to interfere with you. The vampire is in Heimar's Cave, but the location is random, so it could be another cave or fort for you. Once in the cave, kill the vampires and their thralls. One vampire dared me to shout: "Tighten up!". Well, what can I say?

She quickly lost her head, and will no longer be able to shout such words. As a reward for the task, we get a hoop of great magic.

Ancient technology.

This quest is given by Sorin. She is a master of Dwemer technology and will ask you to find a blueprint for an improved Dwemer crossbow. The blueprint for the improved Dwemer crossbow is located in a place called Gallows Rock, but, as I said earlier, the place can be anywhere. We go into the fortress, pull the chain and pass on. Surprisingly, not vampires settled in the fortress, but warriors of a silver hand. My heroine immediately flew in and grabbed the first enemy she came across by the throat, he did not suffer for long, yes. Run further into the fortress, killing the enemies. At the end of the fortress there will be a chest, open it and take the blueprint from there. Now you can return to Sorin. As a reward, Sorina will give us a hoop and teach us how to forge Dwemer crossbows. So it goes.

Strengthening the ranks.

The task is issued by Sorin. She will ask to bring another person into the guard of the dawn - the former priest Florentius, but the problem is that she does not know where the priest is now, but knows Isran, but Sorin is afraid that the conversation may not take place, so she asks to talk to Isran and us and find out the whereabouts of the former priest. It turns out that Florentius is now in the ranks of the Watchers of Stendarr, and you know how Isran hates them, but still agrees that we will need him. Florentius is currently excavating in Ranwald. At the excavations, all the sentinels turned out to be drugged, I can smell the vampire presence. We'll have to break through with a fight. The sentinels also brought huskies with them. I killed and cried. Cried and killed. Having passed the excavations, I ended up in the Ranwald temple. Inside, I found a vampire who subdued everyone, as well as Florentius Basnia. After talking with Florentius, I persuaded him to come to the Fortress of Dawn. He also talks to himself.

Preemptive strike.

The task is issued by Ganmar. He asks to kill a vampire who settled in Orothheim and surrounded himself with a gang of bandits. Need to hurry, otherwise his squad will turn into vampires? The task is very easy: we go into the cave and cut everyone out, after that we report to Ganmar about the successfully completed mission. As a reward, we receive a Bow of Exhaustion. One more thing: the reward is level-based, so you can get a Daedric bow instead of an elven one, or a longbow instead of an orcish one.

Lost relic. Rune Hammer and Rune Shield.

The task is issued by Florenty Bazniy. He will ask you to find the Runehammer of the Dawnguard in a place called Fort Fellhammer. The task is easy. Come to the fortress and kill all the enemies. After that, go inside and kill the leader of the bandits. Dawnguard Runic Hammer will be in a chest. Take it and return to Florentius Basnius. As a reward for the quest, we receive the Dawnguard Runic Hammer. Now it's yours, enjoy it.

Also, Florentius Bazniy issues a quest to find the Rune Shield. He gives you the location, you come in, clear the location, pick up the item and go back to Baznia.

Hide and Seek.

The task is issued by Ganmar. He will ask you to kill a vampire who is hiding among civilians. The vampire is in Ivarstead and has disguised himself as an advisor. Again, the location is chosen randomly and the position of the vampire in society is also random. And one more thing, you must kill the vampire discreetly, yes, discreetly, no need to harm the reputation of the guardians of the dawn. Honest citizens do not know that you will kill a vampire.
After killing the vampire, return to Ganmar. As a reward we get an orc mace.

The rescue.

The task is issued by Florenty. He reports that our friend has been kidnapped by vampires. Let's go save a friend. This can be any partner with whom you traveled through Skyrim. In my case - Lydia, who is in the Torch Mine. Together with the release, we need to kill the main vampire. There will be bandits in the cave, we kill them and go to Lydia's cell, kill the jailer and take the keys. After that, we kill the vampire and report to Florence.

Brief walkthrough

  1. Find out where the Elder Scroll is
  2. Talk to Esbern or Angeir (optional)
  3. Find an Elder Scroll

Details

The action of this mission takes place in a huge Dwemer ruin called Alftand, which is the entrance to a huge underground cave Blackreach. There are many additional quests in this cave, which means that the passage can become quite lengthy.

The Dwemer Observatory has a small puzzle that must be solved in order to obtain the Elder Scroll stored inside. The exit to the surface will not be difficult, and the place marker will always allow you to return to the Black Limit again.

Finding the Elder Scroll

After starting this quest, talk to Arngeir or Esbern about the possible location of the Elder Scroll. Both will send you to the same place: the College of Winterhold. If you haven't entered it yet, Faralda will ask you to reveal a spell of her choice. If you don't know him, she can sell you the scroll at a reduced price. You can also tell her that you are a dragonborn, demonstrate the Shout, and after that you can enter.

At the College, talk to the local librarian, Urag gro-Shub, who will give you 2 books about the Elder Scrolls: Impact of the Elder Scrolls and Reflections on the Elder Scrolls. After reading the second book, Urag will tell you that the author, who knows a lot about the Scrolls, left the College a few years ago. Head north and you'll find Septimius Segonius at his post. He will send you to the Dwemer ruins and give you two tasks, which will be the keys to the rest of the quest.

Note: This will also start the quest Beyond the Mundane, a quest by the Daedra Lord Hermaeus Mora.

Alftand

This mission takes place in the large Dwarven ruins of Alftand, which contains the entry point to Blackreach, a huge cavern beneath Skyrim. In Blackreach, you can get a lot of additional tasks, which can stretch the duration of this mission. Both Alftand and Blackreach are inhabited by steam centurions and falmer, which (without proper training) can make the passage of the task very difficult.

The easiest way to complete this lengthy quest is to thoroughly prepare for battles. First, you must go through Alftand itself. This is a large dungeon with a considerable number of battles, but where to go is clear right away. Eventually you will reach a door where the Falmer will meet you (2-4). Kill them and go up the stairs - on the top platform there will be a lever that controls the gate.

After the gate, you will encounter a Dwarven Centurion, which can be a serious opponent at low/mid level. An easy way to kill him is to catch the gate and attack from a safe distance.

Climbing up the stairs, you will find Sulla Trebatius and Umana hiding from the centurion. They are hostile to the player, but if they are not interrupted, an argument will begin, and then a battle. The player can kill the survivor, or sneak past unnoticed. Use the orb given by Septimius to open the stairs. Blackreach is right below you. If you took the key from the centurion, then you can first take the elevator to the surface, sell the loot, and then continue exploring Blackreach.

Black Limit

Don't look at the scroll...

And finally, you are in Blackreach, a huge cave, the path through which will take a lot of time. Your enemies are still Dwemer machines and Falmer. Follow the paved road and you will reach your final destination, the Mzark tower. Low-level players should go around buildings to avoid unnecessary encounters (you can try to swim along the river.)

Inside the Mzark tower, climb to the very top, into a hall with pedestals and buttons on them. The Vocabulary Stand must be used first. Now you need to press the buttons to copy the knowledge of the Scroll into the Dictionary and pick up the Scroll. Follow the pattern: press the third button (1, 2, 3, 4 from left to right), after a few seconds the second, wait a little more, and press the first. The mechanism will lower the Scroll towards you. Take the Completed Dictionary and the Elder Scroll.

Take the Scroll to Paarthurnax at the Throat of the World to start the next quest.

Notes

  • Attempting to read the Scroll will temporarily blind the player.
  • The Clairvoyance spell can be of great help in navigating Blackreach.
  • It is not necessary to enter the Blackreach through Alftand, it is also possible to go there from other Dwemer ruins, Raldbthar and Mzinchaleft, using the same sphere to open the gate mechanisms.
  • Actually, it is not necessary to start this quest to find the Scroll - you can find Septimius' hideout on your own. It is quite far from the coast, so you have to swim among the ice floes.
  • The safest and fastest way to get to the tower is to stick to the right wall of the cave if you are entering the Reach via Alftand. You will encounter only a couple of Falmer and you will reach the goal in 5 minutes.

Bugs

  • This quest may conflict with College of Winterhold quests. Urag gro-Shub may not have a dialogue option to continue the Ancient Knowledge quest. Completing the College assignments should fix the bug. Otherwise, PC users can manually change the stage of the Ancient Knowledge quest to 80 by entering setstage MQ205 80 into the console. Alternatively, you can travel to Blackreach yourself, but in this case there will be no quest marker.
  • If you approach Sulla Trebatius and Umana stealthily, but find yourself in a noise and make them look for you, they will immediately pounce on each other.
  • If Urag gro-Shub refuses to talk to you, the book you need is on his desk. Read it, and then talk to Urag again and continue the quest.
  • Completing Hermaeus Mora's quest may conflict with this quest, as Septimius Segonius dies at a certain point in the Daedric Prince's quest. Therefore, you will no longer be able to talk to him regarding the Scroll.

Notes

  • Any text in angle brackets (for example, ) is a parameter set by the Radiant Quest engine that will be set to a value when the quest is received.
  • Not all of these entries may appear in the game log: which entries appear and which do not - depends on how the task is performed.
  • Stages are not always listed in order of completion. This tends to happen with tasks that have multiple possible outcomes, or where certain tasks can be performed in an arbitrary order.
  • If an entry is marked "Job Completion", this means that the job is removed from the active list, but new stage entries for that job may continue to be added to the log.
  • When playing on a personal computer, you can use the console to advance through the task by entering the command setstage MQ205 stage into it, where stage is the number of the stage to which you want to go. However, it is not possible to proceed to uncompleted (i.e., skipped) quest stages. However, using the resetquest MQ205 console command, you can reset the quest stage.
