Frank Mir was born into a family that is directly related to mixed martial arts. He studied the basics of martial arts at the Kempo School in Las Vegas, owned by his father. He also competed on the high school football team and in track and field competitions, where he set a still unbroken competition record: he threw a discus of 54 meters and 20 centimeters. In 2004, after defeating Tim Sylvia, after five years of training, Frank received a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from the hands of Ricardo Pires.
Before entering the UFC, Mir worked as a bouncer in one of the clubs in Las Vegas and now holds the position of director of security in parallel with performances in the octagon. In addition to direct participation in the fights, Frank commented until 2010 (another UFC fighter, Stefan Bonnar, came to replace him) WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting), which is a subsidiary of the UFC.
Career in mixed martial arts
Joe Silva, a UFC entrepreneur, noticed the talented guy when he visited Mir's school. Frank was asked to show himself against the background of some mixed martial arts fighters. Frank's next fight took place about five months later. The next opponent was the Briton Ian Freeman, who had a 12-5 record at the time of the fight. Mir could not make a painful hold in the stalls and ended up in a position from below, where for about two minutes he constantly missed blows to the head. Referee John McCarthy ordered the fighters to get up, but Mir was no longer able to continue the fight.
Rehabilitation took place six months later, at UFC 41: Onslaught. The fight against Tank Abbott lasted exactly the same as against Pete Williams - 46 seconds and ended with a painful hold, only this time on the leg.
This was followed by two fights against Wes Sims at once, the difference between which was about six months. The first fight lasted two minutes and fifty-five seconds, after which Wes Sims was disqualified for kicking a prone opponent in the head (this technique is prohibited by the rules of the Ultimate Fighting Championship). World also won the second fight, only by knockout after two exhausting rounds.
Frank's convincing performances led him to fight for the championship belt against Tim Sylvia. The fight took place on June 19, 2004 at UFC 48: Payback. At the fiftieth second of the fight, referee Herb Dean stopped the fight while Mir was performing a painful hold on his arm. As it turned out, the referee noticed how Sylvia's hand simply "broke", although Tim himself was ready to continue the fight and tried to protest Dean's decision. Mir agreed to continue the duel. After inspecting Sylvia's hand, the final decision was made to stop the fight and award the victory to Frank Mir. Already in the hospital, the doctors found that Sylvia's arm was broken in four places at once. After this fight, Frank Mir received a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

On September 17, 2004, Frank Mir on a motorcycle collided with a car. Mir received a fracture of the femur, a rupture of all knee ligaments. Return to UFC
Mir has healed a knee injury and returned to the octagon again at UFC 57: Liddell vs. Couture 3 February 4, 2006. The first opponent after such a long break was Marcio Cruz, who had a 1-0 record at the time of the fight. At the third minute of the fight, the referee stopped the fight to find out the severity of the cut on Mir's face. After inspection, Frank was asked to continue the fight, to which he agreed. But already at 5 minutes, the referee stopped the fight again, but already to award Cruz a victory by technical knockout
Mir's next appearance in the UFC was on July 8, 2006 at UFC 61: Bitter Rivals against Dan Christison. Since the last performance, Mir has gained weight and exhausted quite quickly during the fight. A disappointing, lackluster unanimous decision win brought a cloud of criticism over Frank's head. The main subject of complaints against Mir was his form: he completely ceased to be the fighter he was before the injury, having lost his speed and technique.
The fight against Brandon Vera took place at UFC 65: Bad Intentions. The world had absolutely nothing to offer the opponent, which is why he lost by technical knockout in the first round. Criticism against Frank became more and more harsh, his fans said that now Mir is a completely different fighter than he was before the accident, and that he will never return to the previous level. It seemed that the once so bright career of a talented fighter was fading away, or even could completely come to naught so ingloriously. Mir-Hardonk, scheduled for UFC Fight Night 9, did not take place due to Frank's shoulder injury and was rescheduled for UFC 74. Mir won by submission in the first round. After the fight, the winner walked up to the camera and declared, "I'm back!"
On February 2, 2008 at UFC 81, the main event of the evening was a duel between Frank Mir and UFC debutant Brock Lesnar. Interim championship belt
UFC 92 hosted the Mir-Nogueira fight, which was part of a heavyweight mini-tournament founded by Dana White. The winner had to face the winner in a pair of Lesnar - Couture. Lesnar defeated Couture by technical knockout, which allowed him to compete in the fight scheduled for UFC 98 for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion.
The fight between Mir and Nogueira also ended with a technical knockout in the second round. Prior to this, Nogueira had been knocked down twice in the first round and once more in the second. Fight for the title of absolute champion
After defeating Nogueira, Mir received the right to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 98, although Frank himself believed that his victory over the Minotaur was enough to recognize him as the undisputed champion. The scheduled fight did not take place due to Mir's knee injury requiring surgery and was rescheduled for UFC 100.
At UFC 100, Mir lost to Lesnar via TKO in the first minute and forty-eighth second of the second round.
At UFC 107, the World-Congo fight took place, where Frank knocked down the Frenchman at 41 seconds, and ended the fight with a choke hold thirty seconds later.
Mir caused a lot of controversy when he said he wanted to break Brock Lesnar's neck, thereby making him the first fighter in MMA history to die in the octagon. Mir later apologized for his comments.
At UFC 111, Mir faced Shane Carwin for the interim title of the organization. Already in the first round, Carvin sent the World to a technical knockout.
