Gril Joseph Evgenievich biography. Baku - Russian Jewish Encyclopedia. Billionaire Aras Agalarov: “Instead of import substitution, we need to do ... export substitution!”

... according to the newspaper "Sovershenno sekretno", from 2002 to 2007 Grudinin could be associated with Agalarov through his eldest son Artyom. And from 2007 to 2014, Grudinin shared with Agalarov the profit on a partnership basis received from the activities of the Kashirsky Mall company. So, starting from the creation of Crotex JSC in 1996, Grudinin's benefit was not only - and not so much! - in the sale of state farm land, but also from the funds paid by Crotex JSC for the lease of premises. Moreover, the financial success of the Kashirsky Mall alone was incomparable with the indicators of the Lenin state farm. So, according to accounting data at the end of 2015, the net profit and revenue of Vegas was three times higher than the state farm!
...

Soon dealerships "Nissan", "Toyota" and "Lexus" were opened on state farm lands. And already the youngest son of Grudinin Anton, who also graduated from RUDN University, worked, as he notes on his Facebook page, as an administrator in these Vegas and Toyota Center Kashirsky shopping centers. In August 2016, the Lenin State Farm sold another of its plots to the Swedish company IKEA. According to the director of the state farm, the land sold belonged to the company "TT Development", "controlled by the state farm." According to the expert, the site can cost from 500 to 750 million rubles, depending on readiness, communications and other factors. We add that the founders of TT Development include Pavel Grudinin himself and his son Anton. And it is all the more surprising that, according to the base “Contour. Focus”, according to the financial results of 2016, “TT Development” recorded a “net loss” in the amount of 533 million rubles! How did you have to turn a business for half a billion in order to yourself be at a loss for this amount?

The plots next to the Ring Road, said the future candidate for the President of the Russian Federation, can hardly be used for agriculture, "because there is a road nearby." And yet, the state farm director noted, a lot of housing is being built nearby, so the seedlings "disappear with terrible force."
http://www.sovsekretno.ru/articles/id/5823

So, no matter how Grudinin avoids answering direct questions, it is no secret to anyone who is "dining" Grudinin. And if someone else expects that he will "dance" the candidate, then it is very in vain - only the one who " supper."
And if a sufficient number of suckers of naive citizens also vote for the candidate and, God forbid, he becomes the governor of the Moscow Region, then the entire Moscow Region will already be "dancing" and far from being in the rhythm of a waltz.

But in order for the suckers, naive citizens, to vote more actively for the "red" candidate, they are fed a mossy program with gingerbread that has set the teeth on edge communism and socialism. And some are even promised "Donbass to Russia".

And everyone knows that "promising does not mean getting married," but they want to believe in utopias so much that they are ready to give up the entire Moscow region for a full dance.

Irina Agalarova for many is a symbol of a successful woman. And it is not surprising: to live with one husband for so many years, to support him at the beginning of his career, to raise two wonderful children. And while not "light up" in any scandal. You also need to look for such an oligarch who lived with one wife for so many years, not succumbing to the temptation to have a young passion. Of course, this is entirely the merit of Irina Iosifovna. Her wisdom, ability to rebuild, cherish their relationships.

Irina Iosifovna Gril was born in Baku. In her blood, as she herself says, many nationalities are mixed, but Azerbaijani culture is closer to her. In Baku, Irina graduated from high school, and then entered the Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Linguistics. After graduation, she worked as a school teacher. Irina met her future husband Araz Agalarov at school, where they studied together. After school, their paths diverged for a short time - Araz studied at the Polytechnic University. But in the last year, the lovers still got married.

double move

In 1979, the couple had a son, Emin. Araz worked at the research institute when, in 1983, work forced the family to move to Moscow. Irina was not at a loss in a new place, she began to teach. And my husband's business just went up the hill. He founded his own company and at first he didn’t do anything. Before the collapse of the USSR, he founded the company Crocus Group with his father-in-law. The unstable political and economic situation in the country forces the Agalarovs to move to the United States. Moreover, two children were already growing up in the family (in 1987, the couple had a daughter, Sheila), and the parents thought about their further education.

For ten years spent abroad, Irina began to help her husband run a development business. The children received a good education: Emin studied in Switzerland after the USA, Leila graduated from the American School of Fashion and Design. When the children grew up, Irina began to fly home more often. Business demanded that Araz be permanently present in Moscow. So Irina Iosifovna turned the American page of her life. But the daughter Leila remained in the states, to whom Irina often flies. Son Emin returned to Moscow and took the position of vice president in his father's business.

busy life

Now Irina lives in two countries. In Moscow, she has boutiques of designer fur coats and beauty salons. Also, together with her daughter Sheila, Irina has a real estate business in the United States. Agalarova takes care of her grandchildren - the twins Ali and Makail - the sons of Emin and Leyla Aliyeva. She can often be found at fashion shows, and at the concerts of her son Emin, she is the main listener.

Emin Agalarov's apartment

The musician travels a lot around the world, he has a living space in Baku and New York, an apartment in Moscow. This apartment on the top floor of the residential complex Agalarov House in the Krasnaya Presnya region was presented to him by his father, back in 1997. At that time, the project was one of the top three elite houses in the capital and is still included in the list of the most prestigious residential complexes.

The interiors of the entrance groups with marble and granite finishes of elite varieties amaze with their richness and beauty. There are old paintings by Dutch masters on the walls, crystal chandeliers are hung everywhere, and there is also a huge and always fresh bouquet of flowers - this is the hallmark of the developer.

In addition to round-the-clock security and separate parking, the complex is equipped with Turkish and Russian baths, a swimming pool, a solarium, billiards, a bar and a beauty salon. In general, there is almost everything that may be required for life and recreation.

The apartment is located on the top floor and is decorated in the minimalist style that is popular today. The design is dominated by light, unobtrusive tones that highlight the details of the interior and emphasize the light and hospitable character of the owner. All rooms are filled with sunlight due to the many panoramic windows and a simple interior, without unnecessary details and overhanging furniture.

Large and spacious rooms, which contain not only expensive pieces of furniture, but also many gifts from friends, fans and favorite performers. In one of the aisles, there is a huge white vase with the lyrics to the song "Incredible", and autographed photos of celebrities hang on the walls.

Like most musicians, Emin has a white piano in his living room. There is a pleasant warm atmosphere in this room. Here the owner receives friends.

The star has a small music studio in which he and his musicians are preparing for the next performances. This room is mostly filled with professional tools. Emin does not have to worry about the peace of his neighbors, since his father's apartment is located directly below him. The singer admits that this was done specifically for better soundproofing.

From the studio you can go to the attic with a magnificent view of the Stalin skyscrapers and Krasnaya Presnya. A wooden table and chairs are installed here, if you wish, you can sit with friends or admire the evening capital alone.

On average, apartments in the residential complex "Agalarov House" cost from 3 to 8 million dollars and more.

Donald Trump, who is under investigation for collusion with the Kremlin, has tried to enter the Russian market through the Solntsevskaya criminal group, and his contacts with Russian organized crime are much wider than previously thought. The Insider put together data from witnesses and investigating authorities from different countries and found out what links Trump with Mikhas and Mogilevich, how the Russian mafia was integrated into the American president’s team, and what Russian intelligence services have to do with it.

Pure real sector

At the beginning of February 2013, a noisy VIP party took place in the Moscow hotel "Ukraine": Sergei Mikhailov, also known as Mikhas, celebrated his 55th birthday. According to Wikipedia, he has been the leader of the legendary Solntsevo organized crime group since the late 80s. “For guests - there were about 30 in total - a whole floor was reserved. As far as I know, this floor was constantly kept in reserve for Seva Mogilevich, - Dietmar Klodo, one of the guests of the party, recalls in an interview with The Insider. - Someone came with their wives, and someone with starlets and models. Emin Agalarov, son of Araz Agalarov, bosom friend of Mikhas, sang for the guests.

According to Dietmar Klodo, who is closely acquainted with crime boss Semyon Mogilevich (more about Klodo -), business negotiations also took place during this party: “There were two Americans at the party, whose names I don’t know. However, they discussed the construction of Trump Tower in Moscow and Kazakhstan. Mikhas and Avera definitely wanted to participate in the project <Виктор Аверин, авторитет Солнцевской ОПГ - The Insider>. Mikhas invited me to his birthday party so that I could take a closer look at the Americans and express my opinion whether they were fraudsters. They weren't. As far as I understood from their conversation, their previous meeting with Ivanka was mentioned.

It was no coincidence that Mikhas celebrated his birthday on the floor rented for Mogilevich. Back in 1996, the FBI put Mogilevich on the wanted list for money laundering of the Solntsevo organized criminal group. And, as we now know, this laundering was not without the help of Donald Trump.

So, for example, back in 1984, an emigrant from Russia, David Bogatin, bought five luxury condominiums in Trump Tower in New York for $6 million, becoming a neighbor of Sophia Loren and Steven Spielberg. On this occasion, Trump personally attended the signing of the contract. The origin of the huge funds was unclear. Just three years later, Bogatin was found guilty of money laundering and tax evasion, and the apartments were confiscated in order to pay off the imposed fine. Bogatin's activities were examined at Senate hearings in the United States in 1996. It talked about his work for the organization of crime boss Semyon Mogilevich. The connection between David Bogatin and Mogilevich can also be verified from open sources. In a rare interview with the BBC television company in 1999, Semyon Mogilevich himself confessed, which established YBM Magnex in the US, but quickly transferred it to other shareholders. The official register of the State of Pennsylvania lists a new director - Yakov Bogatin, brother of David Bogatin.

The Solntsevskys felt literally at home in Trump Tower. The famous thief in law Yaponchik (Vyacheslav Ivankov), who was killed in 2009 in Moscow, was active in criminal activity in New York in the 90s. The FBI hunted him for a long time until they found him in Trump Tower, where, as it turned out, he had his own apartment. In a 2016 report by the Spanish Civil Guard on the Solntsevskaya organized criminal group, which was obtained by The Insider, citing the FBI and other sources, it says: “Ivankov maintained frequent, almost weekly telephone contact with Mikhailov (Mikhas), and both discussed joint projects and events in criminal world."

From the report of the Civil Guard as part of the investigation into case 1178/2016 about the Solntsevskaya OCG: “Currently, MIKHAILOV continues to play an important role on the stage of Russian organized crime. Although he is no longer actively involved in conventional criminal operations, he is still responsible for the strategic direction of the Solntsevskaya group. This organized crime group is still involved in illegal activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking.”

In September 2017, in Marbella, Spain, 26 people were detained in the case of the Solntsevo group, including Alexander Grinberg and Arnold Tamm (Spivakovsky). In January-February 2018, they were released on bail. They are charged, among other things, with laundering dirty money through the Spanish company "Water Mikhas" ("Mikhas" means not only "Sergei Mikhailov", but also the name of a mountain in Spain).A joint photo of Mogilevich, Mikhas, Averin, and Gafur Rakhimov was found in Spivakovsky's mobile phone. The file was created on August 10, 2017. Gafur Rakhimov, a native of Uzbekistan, is wanted in the US for heroin drug trafficking; moreover, in February 2014, the United States included State Duma deputy (and relative of Ramzan Kadyrov) Adam Delimkhanov in the list of sanctions of the Treasury, as close to Gafur.

From 1984 to the present day, a total of 13 crime bosses associated with the Solntsevskaya organized criminal group and its partner criminal organizations owned real estate in Trump Tower in New York or other Trump buildings. The main buyers of real estate were clients from Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan. Most of the apartments are owned by offshore companies that do not disclose their owners.

Previously, in investigations into Trump's ties to Russia, Mogilevich's surname surfaced mainly in combination with the head of the Trump campaign headquarters, Paul Manafort. In an accusation filed by prosecutor Robert Mueller on October 27, 2017, Manafort is named as the beneficiary of the Cypriot company Lucicle Consultants Limited, which received millions of dollars from Ukrainian MP Ivan Fursin. Ivan Fursin, in turn, according to Austrian police file No. 1 9771781/1-II/BK31030 BK (2005-2006), available to The Insider, is a member of the team of Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash and is a member of Semyon Mogilevich's organization.

The Insider compared data from reports from the Italian and Austrian police, Swiss counterintelligence, the Spanish Civil Guard, FBI investigations, as well as testimonies from a former Mossad employee and data from open sources, and found that Trump's connections with the Solntsevskaya organized crime group and structures close to it are much wider than previously assumed.

Agalarov and his friends

The fact that Trump is connected to Emin Agalarov, who positions himself as a singer, and his father, billionaire Araz Agalarov, has never been a secret. According to the official version, Miss Universe 2012 introduced Trump and the Agalarovs when Emin was filming a video with her (as a result, Trump himself starred in the video). And it was the son of “bosom friend Mikhas” Emin Agalarov who was the person who organized Trump’s headquarters with lawyer Veselnitskaya, where she was supposed to offer some compromising evidence on Hillary Clinton (today this meeting is one of the central plots of Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s collusion with Russia) .

Because of the conspiracy investigation, the Agalarovs are now being discussed more often in the context of their ties to the Kremlin, leaving contacts with the underworld ignored. The connections of the owner of Crocus, Araz Agalarov, with criminal circles were known before. Thus, in 2006, Azerbaijani crime boss Hikmet Mukhtarov was shot dead in a car registered to the co-founder of Crocus, Rail Zeynalov. The press service of Crocus was then unable to comment to journalists. According to some reports, Vyacheslav Ivankov - Yaponchik (the one who was detained in Trump Tower) was present at the funeral of Hikmet's authority in Azerbaijan. In turn, when Yaponchik himself was shot dead in 2009, Azerbaijani crime boss Mammad Masallinsky was seen at his funeral.

Some members of the Solntsevskaya organized crime group consider Sechin and Gref to be a “real mafia”

Agalarov's connection with people previously suspected of criminal activity can be traced in the United States itself.

Araz's wife Irina Agalarova still lives in the USA today, but only comes to Moscow. On her Instagram, she most often posts photos from Palm Beach in Florida and New York. Officially, she had a beauty salon in the USA, but now she is not engaged in business. Agalarov's daughter Sheila also lives in the USA.

In 2005, in Florida, as The Insider found out, the enterprise ZAO Crocus International, LLC was registered, the directors of which are Irada and Michael Schwartzman (it existed until 2012). Irada Shvartsman (nee Mammadova) indicates her place of birth in social networks - Baku. AT friends Mikhail (Michael) Shvartsman has many people from Baku, as well as a Moscow employee of Crocus Igor Ushakov, so, apparently, this enterprise is related to Araz Agalarov's Crocus (the press service of Crocus City in Moscow did not respond to The Insider's request). Today, Michael Schwartzman has several dozen businesses registered in Florida, including Konkretno LLC. At the same time, Michael Schwartzman's friends on social networks include a native of Odessa Semyon (Sam) Kislin. This man deserves a separate description.

Odessa Gentlemen: How Jewish Emigrants Connected with Crime Invested in Trump

Tamir Sapir (center)

All these four Jewish emigrants from the USSR - Kislin, Sater, Sapir and Arif - were directly or indirectly connected with organized crime.

Tevfik Arif was arrested in 2010 during a police raid in Turkey and accused of running an international criminal network that employs underage prostitutes. However, the case never went to trial.

Sam Kislin was connected by the FBI with Ivankov (Yaponchik) and brothers Mikhail and Lev Cherny (Izmailovo OPG). Trans Commodities Kislin together with Blonde Management Corp. (another New York company run by Kislin's nephew) co-sponsored the visa of Anton Malevsky, the leader of the Izmailovsky organized criminal group, and also served to pump money for Mikhail Cherny (Kislin did not deny partnership with Cherny, and supposedly did not hear anything about Malevsky).

Felix Sater - he owned most of the Bayrock-Sapir company - is the most charismatic of these figures. His father was Michael Sheferovsky, the head of a criminal group of racketeers and extortionists operating in New York, which is part of the Mogilevich syndicate. Sater himself, apparently, was actively involved in his father's case: in 1991, he was convicted for cutting the face of a businessman with a broken glass. In 1993, he was released from prison and engaged in securities fraud. And in 1999, Felix Sater moved upstairs and began working directly for Trump - in the next 10 years he will be his personal assistant.

Could Trump have not known that Sater is directly related to the Mogilevich gang and to fraudulent schemes? Well, what he probably didn't know was that a year before joining Trump, Sater had already been arrested for $40 million fraud, pleaded guilty, turned in his accomplices, and became an FBI informant. And that in a year Sheferovsky himself would be arrested. It is significant that when Sater's verdict became public in 2007, he did not lose his position as an adviser to Trump.

  • Felix Sater (right)

Mogilevich’s ally, German citizen Dietmar Klodo (and former RAF fighter; managed to serve 8.5 years in a Hungarian prison for making a bomb) confirmed to The Insider: “Felix Sater from Bayrock ranked Seva Mogilevich, Mikhas and Yaponchik among his friends. Sater was Seva's shames when he was in the US <шамес у иудеев - ответственный за административную и хозяйственную деятельность синагоги - The Insider>» . According to the FBI, Mogilevich came to the United States three times: in 1992, 1994, 1995. It is curious that Claudo himself does not speak Russian, but this did not prevent him from communicating with Mogilevich - they spoke Yiddish. To understand how much confidence Claudo's words can be, The Insider turned to a former employee of the Israeli Mossad, who agreed to comment on condition of anonymity: “Since Mogilevich had an Israeli passport, we actively studied his activities in the 90s. I then questioned him, and he really speaks Yiddish. It is also absolutely certain that Dietmar Clodo was a man from his circle. The fact that he again fell into the cage after serving time in prison is, in principle, possible.

It is possible that it was Sater who helped organize the very meeting of Trump’s representatives with Mikhas and Mogilevich at the Ukraine Hotel, described above. Since 1987, Donald Trump has tried five times to build the Trump Tower in the USSR and Russia, but it was Felix Sater who came closest to completing the task. In 2008, when Sater was still working for Trump (in any case, until 2010 he introduced himself as his adviser and handed out relevant business cards), he joined the board of Sergei Polonsky's Mirax Group. Sater did not have time to agree with Mirax on the construction of Trump Tower in Moscow City - in 2010 Mirax collapsed - but there Sater met one of the top managers of Mirax Group Andrei Rozov, who soon created his own company Expert.

Shortly thereafter, Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen wrote a letter to Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov asking for support for the project. Peskov later stated that he received the letter, but allegedly did not respond to it. It is curious that Sater admitted in his letters that he received funding for the Trump Tower from VTB Bank (later the head of VTB Kostin denied this), and was going to show his contacts in Moscow a video where Trump speaks well of Russia, and then somehow organize everything so that Putin praises Trump's entrepreneurial talents. Sater was sure that this would help Trump win the election.

While Special Counsel Mueller is investigating the extent to which Sater actually succeeded in realizing his plans, the FBI is interested in another story about Russian interference in the election - also, as The Insider found out, connected with a crime boss with roots in Odessa.

Torshin and his friends

In February, it became known that the FBI was investigating whether the funds of the National Rifle Association, of which Alexander Torshin is a deputy chairman of the Bank of Russia, were illegally used to finance the Trump campaign. It is known that in 2016, at one of the events of the organization, he talked with the eldest son of the current President Trump.

Spanish law enforcement authorities consider Torshin a member of the Taganskaya organized criminal group. In 2016, its representative Alexander Romanov, who owned the Mar y Pins hotel in Mallorca, was sentenced to confiscation of property and two years in prison for money laundering. It was reported that the prosecutors intended to arrest Torshin himself - on the basis of Romanov's telephone wiretap data - but Torshin stopped visiting the island. As a source in the investigation team in Mallorca told The Insider, “in the summer of 2015, a meeting of thieves in law was held at the Romanov Hotel, which Torshin de facto controlled. According to some reports, it was on the occasion of the birthday of Evgeny Dvoskin. Dvoskin (née Slusker) is a banker who was arrested in Monaco at the request of the FBI in 2008. In the 1970s, he emigrated from Odessa with his parents to the United States. He was imprisoned several times for extortion, and in prison he met Yaponchik. He was detained with a fake passport and expelled from the United States, settling again in Russia (he himself claimed that he "left the United States of his own free will"). Now he is engaged in banking activities in the Crimea.

Alexander Torshin (center) Spanish law enforcement agencies rank as a member of the Taganskaya organized criminal group

It should be noted that the Jewish-Soviet emigration in the person of Kislin and the people of Mogilevich and Yaponchik actively sought to participate in the political life of the United States for quite a long time. So, for example, Sam Kislin in 1998 helped Giuliani fundraise, which brought $ 2.1 million to participate in the Senate elections. At the same time, in 1996 and 1997, Mogilevich's company YBM Magnex made donations to the National Republican Congressional Committee. The fact that their business partner Donald Trump could become their candidate, then, most likely, no one could even dream of.

But back to the TV seller Tamir Sapir. His role in bringing Trump closer to Russian criminal circles is less well-known, but no less significant.

Kushner and friends

In 2007, Trump organized the wedding of the daughter of Tamir Sapir and Rotem Rosen, CEO of the American branch of the Africa-Israel company, owned by Lev Leviev. The wedding took place at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach. Within months of the ceremony, Leviev met with Trump to discuss potential deals in Moscow. The wedding was attended by Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump's future husband and, like Leviev, an Orthodox Jew (which may have helped them find a common language). Later, Kushner bought a house from Leviev for $300 million and married Ivanka Trump in 2009.

Lev Leviev (Leviev) is mentioned in the above dossier of the Austrian police as "Mikhail Cherny's man" (Izmailovskaya OCG). At the same time, Leviev appears in the deal, where Grigory Luchansky's company Nordex was involved (Luchansky is another famous Jewish immigrant suspected of money laundering on a large scale in several countries at once). In turn, the Spanish Civil Guard believes that Solntsevskaya is collaborating with Mikhail Cherny, as stated in the report on Solntsevskaya (2016) in the framework of the Arnold Tamm case. But what is especially curious is that Leviev is a business partner of Prevezon Holdings (the company of Denis Katsyv, who is accused of money laundering in the Magnitsky case). It was this company that was represented by lawyer Natalya Veselnitskaya with Kushner and the leadership of the Trump campaign, where she offered “compromising evidence on Hillary Clinton” and asked to cancel the Magnitsky law.

In Israel, the name of Lev Leviev got into the press in 2011, when the Hapoalim bank demanded that he contribute 600 million shekels to pay off a debt. Denis and Petr Katsyv opened accounts for offshore companies in the same bank, and the Israeli police launched an investigation into money laundering, but the case ended in a settlement agreement.

Shadow of Vladimir Putin

Why did Mogilevich and the Solntsevskaya organized crime group turn out to be so closely connected with Trump? In part, this is a natural connection, since the real estate market in New York has always been closely associated with the mafia, and Trump never tried to avoid such connections. But perhaps this is not the only thing. Mogilevich was repeatedly used by the Kremlin for special assignments in piquant foreign policy issues.

Another example is the registered company RosUkrEnergo, which in 2004 became an intermediary in the trade of gas from Russia to Ukraine. Neither the Yanukovych government nor Putin's government could give a clear explanation of why the gas trade needs an intermediary who earns billions of dollars a year out of nothing. On the Russian side, the RUE shareholder was Gazprombank (at that time controlled by the same Rossiya bank, that is, Vladimir Putin's inner circle), on the Ukrainian side, Mogilevich's people (Firtash and Fursin). After the Orange Revolution, the new head of the SBU Alexander Turchinov confirmed that, according to his information, it was Semyon Mogilevich who was behind RUE. It is also indicative that the SBU had a dossier on Mogilevich, which was destroyed under mysterious circumstances, and then partially restored. At the same time, it is important to understand that the agreement on gas supplies to Ukraine was an intergovernmental one, which means that the participation of one of the key figures in the Solntsevskaya OCG could not but be agreed at the highest state level. According to some reports, Mogilevich was personally present at the Russian-Ukrainian gas negotiations.

Direct connection with the Russian leadership can be traced not only to Mogilevich. Let's say Mikhas is wearing a premium watch from Vladimir Putin. Formally - for charity. However, many people in Russia do charity work, and only a few receive award watches from the president.

Questions about ties with the state, or rather, with the Russian / Soviet special services, also arise about the “Odessa gentlemen” who have settled in the United States. The report of the Swiss counterintelligence “Cooperation between the FSB and organized criminal groups” from 2007 states that Jewish emigrants from the USSR collaborated not only with crime, but also with the KGB. Emigration began in the 1970s, and Mogilevich is just one of the well-known examples cited in the report. The secret service assumes that it was about the systemic practice of helping the withdrawal of funds from Russian crime and theft of state property to the West. Some of those leaving on Jewish lines were KGB officers, the report's authors believe. The incredible success story of Kislin and Sapir, who not only opened a luxury store on Fifth Avenue in New York, but also managed to conduct barter deals, exchanging electronics for contracts for the supply of oil and petrochemical products from the USSR, and then selling these contracts to American companies. Considering that only the state traded oil in the USSR, such operations would have been impossible without good ties with the Soviet leadership.

The same applies to Araz Agalarov. In 1989, Araz Agalarov founded the "Soviet-American" company Crocus International. The identity of the American co-founder is mysterious. Based on the official version presented by Agalarov himself, his partner was his son-in-law Joseph Grill. Which of the two acted as the "American side", Agalarov does not explain. Most likely, it was Grill, who could leave the USSR on the so-called "Jewish visa". Iosif Grill - Jewish activist, founder of the Jewish Encyclopedia. Officially, the company was engaged in the sale of Soviet souvenirs in the United States. The joint venture required a presence in the US, and "the family later decides to move permanently to America," according to the Agalarovs' official biography.

However, not every Soviet citizen could create a joint venture in the USA in 1989. As ex-KGB spy Yuri Shvets recently told The Insider, “About 1989, we were ordered to create joint ventures with other countries. You come in the morning, a call is heard from the boss: come in, report on how our joint venture with the Koreans is progressing there? After lunch, a call: come in, but how is our joint venture with the Americans?

The scheme in which the Kremlin solves its problems outside of Russia through people with a criminal record is not new. For example, funding the activities of the Wagner PMC in Syria, as well as the activities of the Kremlin trolls, to Yevgeny Prigozhin, who, back in Soviet times, received nine years in prison for robbery as part of an organized group, fraud and involving minors in prostitution. The financing of the operation in Ukraine, in turn, was entrusted to Konstantin Malofeev, who at that moment was a defendant in a criminal case on the theft of a $225 million loan from VTB (after participating in the Ukrainian operation, the case against Malofeev was closed). The fact that Mogilevich, Tokhtakhunov, Gennady Petrov and other leaders of the criminal world, being wanted in the US and Europe, operate freely in Russia, confirms the hypothesis of their cooperation with the state.
