The icon and prayer of the Theodore Mother of God helps in what. Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God

The main shrine of the Kostroma Territory is the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. The miraculous Feodorovskaya icon of the Most Holy Theotokos has been known since the 12th century, when it was located in a chapel near the ancient Volga city of Gorodets. Subsequently, a monastery was founded here, called the Theotokos-Feodorovsky; the miraculous image was the main shrine of the monastery until 1239, when the Mongol-Tatar invaders ravaged and burned Gorodets, and the icon disappeared from the city.

According to the legend, confirmed by the research of modern historians, at the time described, the Feodorovskaya Icon became a prayer image of the Holy Right-believing Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, and it was with this icon that in 1239 Grand Duke Yaroslav Vsevolodovich blessed his son, Holy Prince Alexander, to marry Princess Paraskeva of Polotsk. Together with the noble prince, the Feodorovskaya icon traveled to the Horde, where Saint Alexander defended the interests of the Russian land; he took this image of the Most Holy Theotokos with him on military campaigns; before the face of the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, the noble prince, having accepted monasticism, completed his life.

The miraculous appearance of the Feodorovskaya Icon in Kostroma to Prince Vasily Yaroslavich, the younger brother of Saint Alexander Nevsky, took place in the late 50s and early 60s of the 13th century. On the eve of the apparition, on the day of the feast of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos, many residents of Kostroma saw a warrior with an icon of the Mother of God in his arms on the streets of the city. Kostroma residents recognized the Holy Great Martyr Theodore Stratilates in the warrior by his icon-painting image in the cathedral church of Kostroma. The next day, August 16, according to the old style, Prince Vasily Yaroslavich, while hunting, saw this icon on the branches of a tree near the Zaprudnya River. The acquired shrine was solemnly brought in a procession to Kostroma and placed in the cathedral church in the name of the great martyr Theodore Stratilates, after which it became known as Feodorovskaya.

In memory of the appearance of the miraculous Feodorovskaya icon, a celebration was established on August 16/29 and traditionally accompanied in Kostroma by a citywide procession from the cathedral to the Church of the Savior on the Zaprudnya, erected on the site of the appearance of the shrine. This tradition, forcibly interrupted in the 20th century, was revived in 1990.

On March 14, according to the old style, 1613, in the Kostroma Holy Trinity Ipatiev Monastery, Mikhail Feodorovich Romanov, in front of the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon, accepted his election by the Zemsky Cathedral to the throne of the Russian state. According to chronicle evidence, the messengers of the cathedral, representing all the estates of the Russian land, for many hours asked Mikhail Feodorovich and his mother, the great nun Marfa Ioannovna, to accept the council's decision; consent was obtained only after the appeal of the head of the embassy, the archbishop of Ryazan and Murom Theodoret, who called on young Mikhail and his parent to bow before the will of God. At the miraculous Feodorovsky icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, Mikhail Feodorovich Romanov took vows of fidelity to the Fatherland, the Orthodox Church and the Russian people. From the time of this event, which was the beginning of overcoming the Great Troubles, the Feodorovsky Icon of the Mother of God and the Holy Trinity Ipatiev Monastery in the city of Kostroma became especially revered shrines of the royal house of the Romanovs, and in memory of the calling of Mikhail Feodorovich to the kingdom, another celebration of the icon was established - March 27 , new style.

Since the second half of the 18th century, many members of the royal family, including all Russian emperors, starting with Nicholas I, considered it their duty to visit Kostroma - the "cradle of the Romanovs" - and bow to the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. In 1913, during the national celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, Kostroma was visited by the holy royal martyrs - the last Russian emperor Nikolai Alexandrovich and his august family. The special veneration of the miraculous image of the Mother of God by the Romanov dynasty found its expression in the construction in Tsarskoye Selo of the Feodorovsky town with a temple in the name of the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, as well as in the fact that the brides of members of the royal family who converted from heterodoxy to the Orthodox faith took the middle name "Feodorovna" .

During the years of persecution of the Church in the 20th century, the miraculous Feodorovskaya icon of the Most Holy Theotokos did not leave the temple walls, it was preserved as a church shrine. Given the spiritual and cultural value and significance of the icon for Orthodoxy, this case is unique in the recent history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Since 1991, the miraculous image has been kept in the Epiphany-Anastasia Cathedral in Kostroma (). Also, since 1991, a chronicle of modern miracles performed through prayers at the Feodorovskaya icon has been kept; To date, more than 100 such events have been recorded.

The miraculous Theodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God has long been revered by the Orthodox people as a patron of family well-being, the birth and upbringing of children, helping in difficult childbirth.

With the blessing of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, in 2001-2004, the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was brought for veneration by believers in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Arkhangelsk, the Solovetsky Islands, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan, Tver. In the autumn of 2004, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and at the invitation of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir, the main shrine of the Kostroma Territory took part in the All-Ukrainian religious procession, which passed through 40 large and small cities of Ukraine and gathered several million people.

On August 29, 2002, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II.

In 1891, with the personal participation of Emperor Alexander III, Moscow craftsmen made a golden riza for the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, adorned with precious stones, which were collected from all over Russia, using voluntary donations from Kostroma residents and residents of other regions of Russia. The high artistic value of the riza made it possible to consider it one of the outstanding works of jewelry art of the 19th century.

In March 1922, a subcommittee of the Provincial Commission for the Seizure of Church Valuables removed the riza from the Feodorovsky icon and took it away in an unknown direction.

In Russia, many icons of Byzantine origin received their own history, full of miracles, historical victories, tragedies. Such is the Feodorovskaya icon, which, according to the type of image, refers to the “Merciful” icon. Her patronage is not limited to some specific cases - it is truly a national shrine. She is resorted to as a protector from enemies, the patroness of the hearth, in sorrows and difficulties.

Origin

The iconographic type itself is very ancient; the Apostle Luke, one of the authors of the Evangelical texts, is considered to be its author. But the origin of the Fedorov icon is quite difficult to determine exactly, because there are several mutually exclusive versions. In any case, the image is closely associated with the princes of the Rurik dynasty. The first mention of the icon in chronicles occurs in the 12th century. Here are the different origins:

  • The image was painted by order of Andrei Bogolyubsky. He stayed in the Gorodetsky monastery until it burned to the ground. The icon itself later appeared in another place.
  • Prince Yaroslav ordered the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God as a wedding gift.
  • The icon was found by Prince Yuri in an old chapel, where a monastery was later built in memory of this.

After the disappearance of the Feodorovskaya icon, it was again found by Vasily, the younger brother of Alexander Nevsky. The inhabitants of the city saw how the image was carried around the city by St. Theodore Stratilat (by that time he had already gone to God). Shortly thereafter, the icon appeared in the forest on a tree in front of the astonished prince. And so it got its name - in honor of the miraculous phenomenon. It was possible to get it only after a prayer service led by the local bishop.

The second wave of veneration of the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God began in the 17th century. The civil strife ended, the king was chosen. It was with this icon that Mikhail Romanov was blessed. On this day, a church holiday was also established in honor of the image. Since then, he has a special connection with the royal family. The first lists from Kostroma came to Moscow thanks to the nun Martha (the mother of the king). Already at the end of the 17th century. a legend was written about the miracles that took place thanks to the icon.

  • In fact, the Fedorov icon is two-sided. On the back is written St. Paraskeva Friday. From here, apparently, a version appeared that the image was written as a wedding gift.

It is believed that the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God helps in arranging family life. People believed that a blessing on marriage in front of this image would certainly bring happiness. Many German aristocrats, wishing to make a good match in Russia, were forced to accept Orthodoxy. In order for the family to be strong, the princesses took the patronymic “Fedorovna” for themselves - like, for example, the wife of the last emperor. They also prayed to her during difficult childbirth.

The fate of the icon

For a long time the Feodorovskaya icon continued to be in Kostroma. The inhabitants of the city revered her very much, as evidenced by the presence of a heavy golden riza: rubies, diamonds, emeralds adorned the salary, trimmed with rings of precious metals. During the revolution everything was requisitioned. Fortunately, the icon itself remained in the temple. She was even restored, for which she was taken to Moscow.

  • Under the salary, the front part of the ancient image, dating from the 13th century, has practically been erased from time to time. The robes of St. Paraskeva, written on the back, are best preserved.

Since the temple of the Theodore Icon was completely destroyed, it was transferred to the church of St. John, then to the Cathedral of Kostroma. After the war, the inhabitants of the city raised funds for a new salary in order to decorate the shrine in the way it deserves. Today the image is in the monastery of St. Anastasia. The revered list was presented to Nicholas, the last emperor of Russia, and was kept in Tsarskoye Selo. Now he is in the same place.

What does the image say

Although by some miracle the icon has survived to this day, its condition is rather average. The faces of the Virgin and Christ are practically invisible. The composition is very reminiscent of "Vladimir", with the difference that the left leg of Christ is ajar. After all, this sometimes happens when a baby clings to his mother - this very moment is shown on icons such as Eleusa (Tenderness).

The Feodorovskaya icon was of great importance for the royal family, therefore its feast was celebrated very magnificently, despite the fasting time (March). On this day, they even served the Liturgy of Basil the Great, which means that vegetable oil and wine were allowed. The modern Church does not distinguish this day in such a special way; indulgence in fasting is not done.

The shrine is closely connected with Russian history, but it is also considered miraculous. Twice the temples where the image was located were completely destroyed by fire, but nevertheless it remained intact. Another great miracle was revealed during the battle with the Tatars. The enemies who surrounded Kostroma could not withstand the radiance that began to emanate from the face of the Mother of God.

What can you ask for

As the patroness of brides, the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God will help you find a worthy match. The choice of the groom should be taken very seriously - after all, a church marriage is forever. It is necessary to pray earnestly that God will send a worthy person. Wise parents themselves talk with the applicant for the hand of their daughter. If the father has doubts, he can appoint a probationary period. Young people should not be offended by this - a real feeling will pass the test of time.

The Akathist to the Feodorovskaya Icon should be read if a woman cannot conceive a child. Of course, you need to visit doctors, take the necessary medicines - do everything that is in the power of the person himself. Leave the rest to God, be less nervous, because this is reflected in the future father. The Lord will surely send his blessing to those who show patience and perseverance.

Prayers must be constant. This shows God that the person is firm in his intention. Indeed, sometimes time passes, and he forgets to think about what he recently prayed at the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God. In this case, perhaps one should only be glad that the desire did not come true. Therefore, one should not be offended or despair if it seems that the appeal has not been heard. Most likely, the Lord is preparing an option that will please the petitioner more.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos before the icon of Her "Feodorovskaya"

Oh, Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, the only hope for us sinners! We resort to You and pray to You, as if you had great boldness before the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, who was born of You according to the flesh. Do not despise our tears, do not disdain our sighs, do not reject our sorrows, do not disgrace our hope in Thee, but with Thy motherly prayers implore the Lord God, may He grant us, sinful and unworthy, to be freed from sins and passions of the soul and body, die to the world and let Him alone live all the days of our life. O Most Holy Lady Theotokos, travel and protect and guard them, deliver the captives from captivity, free those who suffer from troubles, comfort those who are in sorrow, sorrow and adversity, alleviate poverty and all bodily malice and grant everyone everything necessary for the stomach, piety and temporary life. Save, Mistress, all countries and cities and this city, even if this miraculous and holy icon of Yours is given as a comfort and protection, deliver me from famine, destruction, coward, flood, fire, sword, invasion of foreigners, internecine strife and turn away all anger, rightly moved upon us. Grant us time for repentance and conversion, deliver us from sudden death and at the time of our exodus appear to us, appearing to the Virgin Mother of God, and deliver us from the airy ordeals of the princes of this age, vouchsafe the right hand at the terrible Judgment of Christ and make us heirs of eternal blessings, let us glorify forever the magnificent Name of Your Son and our God, with His Father without Beginning, and the Holy, and the Good, and His Life-Giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Akathist to the Feodorovskaya Icon

Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God - meaning, what helps was last modified: July 8th, 2017 by Bogolub

The first Christians who believed in Christ and accepted Christ's teachings, at the same time learned to love and reverently honor His Most Pure Mother, whom He Himself indicated as their Intercessor and Patroness, when, suffering on a tree, He gave Her the entire human race as an inheritance. in the person of the holy apostle and evangelist John the Theologian. During the days of the earthly life of the Most Holy Theotokos, both near and far hurried to Her to see Her, everyone considered it a great joy to receive blessings and guidance from Her; those who did not have the opportunity to appear before the Mother of their Lord, grieving in their hearts, expressed an ardent desire to see at least a written image of Her.

The apostle and evangelist Luke, who was a doctor and a skilled artist, heard this pious desire many times from many Christians, and in order to satisfy the desire of the first Christians, he, as church tradition tells, depicted on the board the face of the Mother of God with the Eternal Child in her arms; then he painted a few more icons and brought them to the Theotokos Herself. Seeing Her image on the icons, She repeated Her prophetic word: “From now on, all generations will bless Me,” and added, “Let the Grace of the One Born of Me and Mine be with these icons.”

From generation to generation, Orthodox Christians express reverent love for the Mother of God by venerating Her holy icons, building temples in honor of Her, and church holidays in memory of Her countless good deeds. A marvelous and incomprehensible picture for a reverent gaze is presented by the revealed and miraculous icons, as well as the endless miracles performed before them through the prayers of believers. The Heavenly Intercessor herself, acting invisibly through Her holy images, bestows abundant mercy on the faithful, exudes inexhaustible grace and delivers from all sorts of troubles and misfortunes.

At all times of the existence of the Russian Church, miraculous icons have been and remain an integral part of it, its visible image and fertile beginning. Among the most revered icons in Russia since ancient times, the image of the Most Holy Theotokos called "Fedorovsky" was known. Tradition ascribes to this famous icon a very ancient origin and writing by the Evangelist Luke himself, however, it is not known by whom and when it was brought to Russian lands.

For the first time, this icon was mentioned in Russia at the beginning of the 12th century, when it stood in a chapel near the city of Kitezh. Soon, by the zeal of the Grand Duke Georgy Vsevolodovich, the Gorodetsky Monastery was founded here. After the devastating destruction and burning of the monastery, the icon miraculously appeared again.

Younger brother of St. blgv. Prince Alexander Nevsky, Prince Vasily Kostroma, while hunting, got lost in the forest, it happened on August 16, 1239, on one of the trees he saw a wonderful icon of the Virgin, which he wanted to remove, however, she suddenly rose into the air. Upon returning to the city, Prince Vasily told the clergy and people about the miraculous image, after which everyone moved to the place indicated by the prince. Seeing the icon, everyone fell on their knees, offering a special prayer to the Mother of God. Then the priests, having removed the icon, transferred it to the Kostroma cathedral church. In the absence of the prince in the city, the inhabitants saw that a certain holy warrior, who looked like the image of the great martyr Fedor Stratilat, wore the holy image of the Virgin Mary around the city, so the icon from that time began to be called "Fedorovskaya".

Archpriest John Syrtsov narrates: “The newly appeared Fedorov Icon, according to the ancient description, at the time of being brought to Kostroma looked like this: it was painted with oil paints “on dry wood”. head on the right shoulder. The right hand is supported by the Divine Infant, embracing the Mother of God. The right leg of the Divine Infant is covered with a riza, while the left leg is uncovered to the knee. On the reverse side is written the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva, called Pyatnitsa ... The lower part of the icon ends with a hilt 1 1/2 arshins long. "

The cathedral wooden temple soon burned down, but on the third day after the fire, the icon of the "Fedorovskaya" Mother of God was found intact in the ashes, and soon, instead of the burnt cathedral, a new one was erected. Some time later, a fire broke out in the cathedral church again. When the people rushed to the miraculous image to save it, they saw that the icon was standing in the air above the fire. Seeing that the Mother of God wanted to take the icon from the city for the sins of the inhabitants, everyone began to tearfully pray to the Mother of God not to leave them, then the holy image descended and, supported by an invisible force, stood in the middle of the city square.

In 1260, during the Tatar invasion of Kostroma, a great miracle was revealed from the icon of the Mother of God. When the army entered the battle with the enemy, the most pure image, which was carried with prayer singing, began to exude a light brighter than the sun, which, blinding and scorching the Tatars, plunged them into indescribable horror and turned them into a disorderly flight. After the victory, Prince Vasily ordered to put the icon in the Assumption Cathedral and richly decorate it with a precious riza - "gold and silver, and precious stones, and multi-colored beads and precious pearls." Here, in the cathedral, the icon stayed until 1929.

The "Fedorovskaya" icon of the Mother of God, is especially revered in Russia, also because it was through this image that God's blessing was given on the reign of Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, whose election to the Russian throne, which took place in 1613, ended the state turmoil that had tormented the Russian state for a long time . An embassy of the Zemsky Sobor was sent from Moscow to Kostroma, bringing with it the icon of the Mother of God "Vladimirskaya" and the icon of the Moscow miracle workers. In Kostroma, they were met by the clergy with the "Fedorov" icon and everyone went to the Ipatiev Monastery, where young Mikhail was with his mother, nun Matryona.

Michael's "plea" for the kingdom took a long time. Young Mikhail and his mother categorically refused such a heavy burden. Finally, Theodoret, Archbishop of Ryazan and Murom, took the “Vladimir” icon in his arms and said: “Why did the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos and Moscow wonderworkers walk with us on a long journey? ". Elder Matryona could not resist such words. She fell on her face before the icon of the “Fedorovskaya” Mother of God and said: “Thy will be done, Lady! In Your hands I commit my son: guide him on the path of truth, for the good of Yourself and the Fatherland!”. In memory of this event, an annual celebration was established (March 14, O.S.) in honor of the "Fedorovskaya" icon of the Most Holy Theotokos in addition to her appearance on August 16 (O.S.).

Going to Moscow, Mikhail Fedorovich took with him a list from the miraculous icon and placed it in the court church of the Nativity of the Virgin "on Senya". Since that time, the "Fedorov" image of the Mother of God was especially revered by all representatives of the Royal House of the Romanovs.

In 1618, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich sent to Kostroma "little pendants", a pearl overlaid riza and a small icon of the Mother of God in a silver frame to decorate the icon. In 1636, with the zeal of the tsar, the icon was refurbished and again richly decorated with a chasuble.

Kostroma residents also diligently took care of decorating the icon. At the beginning of the 19th century, a new golden riza was made for the icon, leaving the former precious stones and decorations on it. A contemporary testifies: “On this image, the robe, arranged in 1805 of the purest gold, by the cathedral dependency, and more by the zeal of citizens, has a weight with a crown of 20 pounds 39 spools; she and the crown are decorated with diamonds, yahonts, emeralds, rubies (of which one red is the most precious ), venises and other precious stones, large pearls and Burmite grains... To this image belong cassocks or earrings more than half an arshin long, with Burmite grains, precious stones, gold dies, rings and blocks, on which the inscription is depicted ... ". In 1891, a new golden riza weighing almost 10 kg was arranged for the miraculous image, which adorned it until 1922.

The terrible events of the beginning of the 20th century did not bypass Kostroma. However, the Providence of God preserved the great shrine of the Russian land. The icon not only escaped desecration at the hands of the theomachists, but also remained in churches throughout the entire 20th century. It should be noted that, given the spiritual and cultural value of the miraculous "Fedorovskaya" icon and its historical connection with the Royal House of the Romanovs, this case is unique in the recent history of the Church.

At the beginning of December 1919, the miraculous image of the Mother of God was examined in Kostroma by the expedition of the museum department of the People's Commissariat of Education under the leadership of I.E. Grabar in order to reveal the original paint layer. But, unlike other icons that have become the subject of attention of art historians, the Kostroma shrine did not leave the church walls for many years.

In the spring of 1922, during the all-Russian campaign to seize church valuables, a precious riza was removed from the miraculous image of the "Fedorovskaya" Mother of God. In the summer of the same year, the temples of the Kostroma Kremlin were captured by the renovationists; thus, the miraculous icon ended up in their hands. In 1928, the Renovationist community took the icon to Moscow for restoration, but soon the image nevertheless returned to Kostroma.

In 1944, after the self-liquidation of the Renovationist schism, the icon was returned by the rector of the Renovationist Cathedral, Archpriest Nikolai, to an Orthodox church. Initially, the miraculous image, as during its stay with the Renovationists, did not have a riza, only in 1947 it was put on a copper-gilded riza from one of the lists.

On August 7, 1948, during a trip to the Volga cities, His Holiness Patriarch Alexei I visited Kostroma. Bowing to the "Fedorov" icon of the Mother of God, the Patriarch expressed the wish that the miraculous image be decorated with a robe worthy of the spiritual greatness of the shrine. To arrange a new robe, the clergy and laity of the Cathedral of St. John Chrysostom Cathedral began collecting donations, which took several years. By the spring of 1955, Moscow craftsmen had made a new silver-gilded riza.

In April 1964, in connection with the forced transfer of the chair of the Kostroma archpastors to the Resurrection Cathedral on the Lower Debra, the miraculous image was also transferred there.

The revival of the Russian Orthodox Church, which began with the celebration in 1988 of the Millennium of the Baptism of Russia, was also reflected in the fate of the Kostroma shrines. August 29, 1990 - for the first time after many decades, on the day of the celebration of the appearance of the "Fedorovskaya" icon of the Mother of God, a procession of many thousands passed, after the Divine Liturgy, from the Cathedral of the Resurrection Cathedral through all of Kostroma to the Church of the Savior on Zaprudnya; since that time, as before, the procession has again become a tradition. On August 18, 1991, the miraculous icon of the "Fedorovskaya" Mother of God was solemnly transferred to the rebuilt Epiphany-Anastasia Cathedral from the ruins, which became a new cathedral.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, on May 12, 2001, for the first time since 1928, the miraculous image of the “Fedorovskaya” Mother of God was delivered to Moscow, to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, in October of the same year for the worship of believers, the icon was transferred to Yekaterinburg. In 2002, the "Fedorovskaya" icon was met in the Arkhangelsk and St. Petersburg dioceses. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, in 2003 the miraculous image was again delivered to Moscow, where it was kept in the Trinity Cathedral of the St. Danilov Monastery.

In 2003, the Kostroma diocese began collecting donations to restore the precious golden chasuble. On June 23, 2003, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II gave his blessing for the development of the project and the production of an exact copy of the lost chasuble (1891).

Now the miraculous icon of the "Fedorovskaya" Most Holy Theotokos resides in the Kostroma Cathedral, in a separate gilded icon case under a canopy, to the right of the Royal Doors.

She has long been revered by believers not only as miraculous, but also as especially patronizing family well-being, the birth and upbringing of children, before her they pray to the Mother of God for granting help in difficult childbirth.

The monastery got its name from the nearby town of Gorodets.
Later, the Grand Duke of Vladimir.
The temple was consecrated in honor of the great martyr Theodore Stratilat.

Icon of the Theodore Mother of God, in which cases it helps

The icon of the Theodore Mother of God, in which cases it helps, how to pray correctly. Where is the Fedorov Icon located, what is the Fedorov Icon asked for

Everyone knows that the Feodorovsky face of the Most Holy Theotokos was created by the holy elder Luke. But the history of its appearance in our Motherland remains unknown, thanks to whom and when this icon appeared in Russia.

The Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God is considered one of the most important Orthodox relics in Russia..

Miracles of the Fedorov Icon

She received such a name, in the name of the Monk Theodore Stratilates. Because it was he who discovered this face on a tree in a village called Gorodets. Soon, in the place where this icon was found, the Gorodets Feodorovskaya monastery was built.

During the entire period of finding the miraculous icon in the city, a lot of miracles happened. Here is one such case, the icon remained untouched during the fire in the Kostromovskaya church, which happened more than once. It also changed in color when Tsar Nicholas II abdicated.

However, not everyone knows that the icon has two sides.. On the reverse side is the holy face of Saint Paraskeva. Some believe that her divine image on the back wall of the icon appeared thanks to the wife of St. Alexander Nevsky.

How the Fedorov Icon helps

Most of the Russian rulers, including Nicholas the First and all their relatives, came to the miraculous icon and submitted petitions.

This holy face of the Mother of God was a family heirloom of the Romanov family. Prince Nevsky always took her on all his travels. When Alexander Nevsky died in 1262, they decided that the icon must be returned to the city of Kostroma. Many believers know that there is an iconostasis with a real miraculous face, it was acquired by the nun Marfa.

The holy face of the Feodorovskaya Most Pure Theotokos has never been without prayer petitions. This icon has been in many cities: in the city of Solovki, St. Petersburg, in the capital city, and in Yekaterinburg.

This holy face was in the Assumption Monastery in the flesh until 1929.

Then she was transferred to the Cathedral of St. Ivan Chrysostom, and then to the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord. In the early nineties, the icon was moved to the Epiphany Church of Anastasia.

Confirmation that the icon is genuine was sent by the commission of the People's Commissariat for Education in the early twenties.

At first, until the beginning of the twentieth year, the icon was framed by a golden frame of more than twenty kilograms. Now it is decorated with another frame made of silver and gilding, which was completed by order of Alexei the First in the 1950s.

When the Fedorov Icon will help

There is a lot of evidence of the miracles performed by the icon. Mother of God offer prayer requests for:

The appearance of children;

Safe delivery;

Love in family relationships;

Health strengthening message;

Healing from ailments.

There are also many cases of the message of the children of the Fedorov Blessed Virgin Mary:

The first evidence tells of a family from the Nizhny Novgorod district, which for seven long years could not have children. For twelve whole months they prayed before this icon every day without a break. And a miracle happened. A boy appeared.

The second story is about a girl who was diagnosed with a severe gynecological ailment. Doctors unanimously insisted that a woman could die during childbirth. However, after offering a prayer in front of this icon, a little time later, the woman became the happy mother of a wonderful little boy.

And the third story happened to a woman who had a paralyzed leg. Approaching with great weakness to the miraculous icon, she began to say a prayer for help in healing the disease. The petitioner walked back by herself on two legs, and a day later the leg became healthy again.

What they ask for the Fedorov Icon

All believers give prayer speeches about those things or people for which they are worried or afraid. The icon sends support not only during difficult childbirth, but also contributes to the pious upbringing of children which is very important for new parents.

It is well known that all miraculous prayers are recorded in church books. No need to think that prayers are spells. Remember that a prayer request is your conversation, a request to the Almighty, the Mother of God or God's Satisfiers. It is necessary to make a prayer request from the heart and with pure thoughts.

No need to pray with ultimatums. If you do not have religious experience in this matter, then there are ready-made prayers with which you can say the prayer correctly. You can also turn to the Almighty and as you think, because the Lord will understand such a prayer.

Also, do not forget about asking for patience and support., in order to overcome obstacles in your life path, and also wisdom, strength and pure reason.

The text of the prayer to the Fedorov Icon:

“To whom will I turn, Queen, to whom will I resort in my grief; to whom I will show my crying and suffering, if not to You, the Lady of the Heavenly and earthly world: who will pull me out of the abyss of sins and godlessness, if not You, O Mother of Life, Protector and Refuge of all people. Do not despise my request, calm me and have mercy in my sorrow, intercede in grief and misfortune, heal from cruelty and sorrow, and various diseases, and suffering, from enemies familiar and unfamiliar, cool the struggle raging in me, and deliver me from slander and human anger; also deliver me from my bodily shameful traditions. Cover me with Your cover of cordiality, and send me finding peace and happiness and deliverance from sinful deeds. I give myself to your Maternal protection; grant me the Mother of God and aspirations, protection, and support, and happiness, and sympathy, and patronage, the Defender, responsive to all petitions. Oh Holy Queen! Everyone resorts to You, does not leave without Your almighty support; therefore, for the sake of this, a sinner, I turn to You, give me protection from a sudden and terrible death, toothache and eternal suffering. I hope to get into the Kingdom of Heaven, and I say to You with trembling in my heart: Rejoice, Most Holy Theotokos, our patient Representative and Defender, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen".

As you know, the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God was painted by St. Evangelist Luke. It remains a mystery that no one knows who brought it to Russia and at what time. It is the most important shrine in Russia.

Miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon

It is called for the reason that it is named after St. Theodore Stratilates, who found it on a pine tree in a city called Gorodets. After a certain period, where they found it, the Gorodetsky Feodorovsky Monastery was founded.

During the entire stay of the miraculous image in the city, many miraculous events took place. One of these events - the face remained unharmed after the Kostroma Cathedral burned twice. It darkened until the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II.

Not everyone knows that the image has two sides. On the second side you can see the image of the martyr Paraskeva. There is an assumption that her face on the back of the icon is associated with the wife of St. Alexander Nevsky.

The meaning of the Feodorovskaya icon

Many kings, starting with Nicholas the First and members of their families, went to the miraculous icon and prayed. She was a family icon of the Romanov family. Prince Alexander Nevsky took her on all his campaigns. In 1262 the prince died and a decision was made to return the saint to Kostroma. It is known that there is a copy of a genuine miraculous icon brought by the nun Martha.

The Theodore Icon of the Mother of God knew no time without prayers. The geography of the pilgrimage of the face is great - Solovki, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg. It was kept in the Assumption Cathedral until 1929. It was also kept in the church of St. John Chrysostom, and later in the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. In 1991, the shrine was transferred to the Epiphany - Anastasia Cathedral.

The authenticity of the image was confirmed by the expedition of the People's Commissariat of Education in 1919. Until 1922, it was decorated with a ten-kilogram golden chasuble. A new precious riza from a silver-gilded setting was made at the request of Alexei the First in 1955.

“To whom I will call, Lady, to whom I will resort in my sorrow; to whom shall I bring my tears and sighs, if not to Thee, the Queen of Heaven and earth: who will uproot me from the mire G rekhs and iniquities, if not You, O Mother of the Belly, Intercessor and Refuge of the human race. Hear my groaning, console me and have mercy in my sorrow, protect me in troubles and misfortunes, deliver me from bitterness and sorrow, and all sorts of ailments and diseases, from enemies visible and invisible, die the enmity of those who torment me, may I be delivered from slander and human malice ; so free me from your own flesh of vile customs. Cover me under the shade of Your mercy, may I find peace and joy and cleansing from sins. I entrust myself to your motherly intercession; wake me Mati and hope, cover, and help, and intercession, joy and consolation, and an ambulance in everything Helper. Oh wonderful mistress! Everyone flows to You, without Your almighty help does not depart; for this sake, and I am unworthy of you, I resort to you, so that I will be delivered from sudden and fierce death, gnashing of teeth and eternal torment. What does the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God help in? The miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God: prayer, akathist, photos, reviews of miracles, the history of the icon

Today there are a lot of well-known icons in the world that are miraculous and help people at their request and prayers. These include the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God. This image has a rather ancient history of miracles, gains, and healings. Believers turn to her in many sorrows and sorrows, receiving consolation through their prayers.

In this article, we will look at various legends that mention the icon of the Mother of God Feodorovskaya, what this image helps with, how they pray before it, as well as the history of its acquisition.

Legends about the appearance of the icon

The first mention of this image appeared around the middle of the XIII century. However, it was written by the Evangelist Luke. There are several legends about the second acquisition of this icon in Russia, and all of them are rather contradictory. But for the first time the image was found in an old wooden chapel near the city of Gorodets. This place was marked with grace, and after a while the Gorodetsky Feodorovsky Monastery was built here.

The further history of the icon of the Feodorovskaya Mother of God is rather vague. It is believed that it was in this way that in 1239 Yaroslav Vsevolodovich blessed his son Alexander Nevsky for marriage. He was married to Princess Bryachislava of Polotsk. A sign of this action is the second image, which contains on its back the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, namely St. torment. Paraskeva, which is also called Friday. She is considered the patroness of the Polotsk princely house.

Be that as it may, after 1238, when Batu Khan invaded the country, the chapel, like many other buildings, was looted and completely destroyed. She was just burned. Everyone thought that the icon was lost. However, very little time passed, and the image was found again. And here there are several legends about this event.

The Reacquisition of the Icon

The most popular legend, which mentions the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God (photo below) and its rediscovery, is the following. A warrior appeared in the city of Kostroma, who walked through all the streets with this image. The next day, Vasily Yaroslavovich, the younger brother of Alexander Nevsky, found her. It happened on the bank of the Zaprudnya river. This event took place in 1263. The found image was identified by the inhabitants of Gorodets. And the warrior who brought it was a martyr. Theodore Stratilates.

The second legend in terms of the scene differs only in that it was found in 1239 (a year after the loss), and it was found by Vasily Kvashnya, the then prince of Kostroma. The image was found on a tree near the river, and then transferred to the temple. The icon immediately became revered and capable of performing miracles. In the future, more than one prayer before the icon of the Theodore Mother of God saved this city from various misfortunes.

The study of the icon and its iconography

It should be noted that there are some disputes among specialists about the origin of the icon. Some believe that it was painted to order from the icon of Vladimir (but disagree on for whom), since the iconography of these images is very similar. Both of them can be attributed to the “Tenderness” type, but the miraculous Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God has a number of features and distinctive features.

For example, the main feature of images of this type is preserved - the Infant turns to the Mother and hugs her by the neck, touching her cheek with his cheek. However, the difference from the Vladimir image is that little Jesus sits on the Mother's hand. Such an image is more typical for icons of the Hodegetria type. Further, the feet of the Infant are depicted in such a way that it seems that he is taking a step. Moreover, the hands of the Mother and the fabric of Maforius are depicted in such a way that a symbolic cup is formed, into which the feet of Christ are lowered. This is a symbolic image of a vessel into which prosphora are lowered and wine is poured during the Eucharist.

The clothes of the Virgin are purple, which in ancient times was a symbol of royal power. And even later, in the Christian tradition, the meaning of this color began to refer to the suffering of Christ. The clothes of the Child symbolize his incarnation. The cloak of Christ is covered with the golden rays of the assist. In ancient times, the golden color was not only a divine symbolism, but emperors were also wrapped in cloaks of this color during burial. Therefore, this detail of the vestment has a double meaning.

The naked leg of Christ symbolizes the memory of his suffering. In general, the whole image of the Feodorovskaya icon is not only caressing the Mother and Son, but also their farewell. This can be seen on the icons that refer to the mourning and burial of Christ. The Mother of God in these images has a mournful face.

A distinctive feature of the Feodorovsky image is also that on its back there is another image of a saint, presumably Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. There are several options for the appearance of this image. According to one of them, the image was painted when Alexander Nevsky was getting married, and the saint was the patroness of the bride's house. According to the second version, the icon was considered to be an altarpiece, since it once had a staff at the bottom (which directly indicates this). Similar icons were once made in Byzantium.

The meaning of the icon

For the Russian people, the significance of the Feodorovskaya icon is very great. At one time, she more than once saved the country from various misfortunes. For example, in 1272, Prince Vasily set out from Kostroma on a campaign against the Tatars, taking with him the image of the Mother of God. According to eyewitnesses, she emitted bright rays that scorched enemies. Thanks to this, the victory was won.

The icon became more famous after the end of the Time of Troubles, when Mikhail Romanov ascended the throne. This happened in 1613. Since then, the image was considered the patron of the royal family, numerous lists were written from it, some have survived to this day. It should be noted that the icon of the Mother of God Feodorovskaya is still revered by believers. How it helps ordinary Christians, you can read below.

Miracles associated with the icon

Throughout the history of the image, the icon of the Mother of God Feodorovskaya has seen considerable miracles. The very first miracle was her rescue from the burning temple, when it was destroyed by the Tatar-Mongolian troops, and then her amazing finding. When the icon was transferred to the cathedral in Kostroma, in 1260 it saved the city from the devastation of the same Mongols who were attacking Russia at that time. The rays of light emanating from the image forced the opponents to flee, and the prince ordered a cross to be erected at the place of victory, and later a stone chapel. Since then, the Feodorovskaya icon has been considered the protector of the Russian Land.

There were also less global miracles, but just as significant. People who began to go on pilgrimage to the miraculous icon began to receive healing (this was especially true for women). Numerous families who could not conceive a child for a long time suddenly received this opportunity through their prayers. Women who had illnesses and, as a result, also could not conceive a child, recovered and gave birth. The Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God helped them in all this. What they pray to the image and why they turn to it is now clear.

A celebration in honor of this image takes place twice a year. The first time this happens on the twenty-seventh of March according to the new style (or on the fourteenth of March according to the old), and the second time - on the twenty-ninth of August according to the new style (the sixteenth according to the old).

In the first version, this is a tribute to tradition, a memory that the Time of Troubles was completed in 1613, and Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich ascended the throne. It should be noted that this number was fixed only from 1620, earlier the holiday was determined by fasting. It must also be said that an instruction was issued that this day is equated with the feast of the Annunciation and is celebrated with great pomp even on fasting days. And the second option is dedicated to the day of the miraculous acquisition of the icon.

Churches and temples that are consecrated in honor of the icon, as well as places where you can find its lists

The Theodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, whose prayer has great power, is ancient and miraculous.
