How to beautifully decorate eggs for Easter - interesting ideas. Golden Easter eggs: decorating master class When to paint eggs for Easter

Easter is coming soon. And this year I decided to be original, prepare beautiful golden eggs, decorating them with gold leaf.

WHAT is potal?

Potal- the thinnest sheet imitating gilding. It is used in decoupage, decorating furniture and interior items that need to be given a “golden” color.

Potal is sheets of alloys or metals (for example, copper and zinc) designed to imitate gold. After application to the product, they are painted with a transparent yellow varnish.

Often used for finishing furniture, stucco, and interior items. Potal is used instead of gilding. This allows for significant savings. Unlike gold leaf, which is suitable for work both indoors and outdoors, gold leaf can only be used for interior finishing work with the application of a special protective layer against darkening. The main disadvantage of gold leaf is the noticeable seams on complex ornaments. Although only a specialist can distinguish gold leaf from imitation.

I learned about gold leaf a year ago. It was just before Easter. Seeing how the girl decorated her eggs, she also wanted to decorate the eggs with gold. But we don’t have art stores, so I started looking on the Internet. I found it on Aliexpress and ordered it only this year. Here is a link to the seller. I received the goods within a month. But, I repeat, if you live in a big city, then gold medals can easily be found in stores for creativity or for artists.

MY PACKAGE

I received the standard package. There is a stack of sheets in it. Between two sheets of parchment, the treasured leaf was lost. The whole stack reminded me block of note paper(I thought it would be larger in size))).

Size 8*8.5 cm

Color - gold (and in general there is also silver and bronze)

Price - 162 rubles.

Quantity - 100 sheets

Characteristics of gold leaf - very fragile, easily cut by any thin object. It crumbles in your hands.

HOW TO DECORATE EGGS WITH GOLD

For decoration you need:

Two brushes (borrowed from the children for painting)

Gloves (so that the gold leaf does not stick to your hands, although it is very easy to wash)

Half a fresh egg white (serves as glue)

HOW to cover eggs with gold leaf

1. Cut the sheet of gold leaf into squares with a knife. Arbitrarily.

2. Cover the boiled eggs with white, brushing a small area of the shell (approximately 2.5 cm * 2.5 cm).

3. Using a second brush dipped in water, take a piece of gold leaf and glue it to the egg.

4. Smooth the gold leaf over the surface of the egg.

We decorate half of all boiled eggs in this way and leave them to dry for half a day so that the gold leaf does not stick to your hands (I worked without gloves). Then we decorate the second part of the egg.

It’s not scary if something comes off somewhere, a piece falls off, etc. You need to apply the protein again to the “defective” area and glue a piece of gold leaf. It fits perfectly on the surface and smoothes out.

I had this test before Easter, in some places it was uneven, in some places it was torn off. I think I just need experience, I’ll learn by the holiday. In general, I liked the effect. Very beautiful golden eggs came out.

Delight your family and friends this Easter with these incredibly decorated eggs.

Are you used to using the same technique for decorating Easter eggs year after year? This year, try to experiment: instead of ordinary onion peels, use thin foil - designer gold leaf. With its help you will create breathtaking decor for Easter! In addition, such fabulous golden eggs, created with your own hands, can be used for their intended purpose - to treat your household with them. This decor is absolutely harmless and therefore does not affect the properties of the eggs.

Materials and tools for decorating Easter eggs:

  • Garlic - 3-5 cloves
  • Garlic
  • Thin brush
  • Wide blush brush
  • Gold leaf (1-1.5 leaves for each egg).

Master class on decorating golden eggs for Easter:

1. We’ll immediately tell you the secret of working with gold leaf. These thin sheets of foil, which literally crumble in your hands, are usually used in tandem with a special glue. Thus, a designer can cover furniture with artificial gold: first, apply glue in certain places, then cover it with gold leaf and use a whisk to “sweep away” the excess gold leaf that could not stick. The same principle is used to decorate eggs, but instead of glue we use sticky garlic juice. In order to obtain this substance, you simply need to pass the garlic cloves through a garlic press and place the resulting porridge in a small container. Photo 2.

2. Boil the eggs, fill them with cold water so that the shells will separate well from the whites. Then wipe each egg with a paper towel. If the surface of the egg is already dry, dip a thin brush into the garlic paste and coat the shell with the shiny juice. You can apply broken lines or dots, or you can cover the entire surface of the egg with juice (all the same, the gold leaf will not stick completely, but will create a marble pattern). Photo 3.

3. Cover the surface greased with juice with a sheet of gold and press this foil. Hold for half a minute. Photo 4.

4. After this, you can remove the excess gold with your fingers, literally erasing this material from the shell. In some places the gold leaf has had time to stick, so the result is a spotted pattern. Photo 5.

5. The last stage of work involves using a wide brush. With its help, we “sweep away” the remaining sweat crumbs. You need to make sure that the surface of the egg is smooth. Photo 6.

Advice: after dyeing with gold leaf, do not put such eggs in the refrigerator: there the surface will become damp, and the gold leaf will begin to separate, remaining on your fingers.

Every spring I try to schedule a little time for Easter decor. This year I decided to collect 9 ideas for decorating Easter eggs in one article so that you can choose the one you like best.

These ideas are more suitable for decorative eggs. Most methods require plain, pre-painted blanks. You can use whole, empty shells, buy wooden or plastic eggs, or. Finished eggs can be coated with matte acrylic varnish.

Spray

Spattering is one of my favorite ways to decorate any surface, from dishes to woodwork. Use multiple colors of paint for an even more interesting result.

Time taken: 10 minutes.

Materials and tools

  • a stiff-bristled brush or toothbrush
  • acrylic paints
  • container for diluting paint with water
  • water
  • piece of paper for drafting
  • oilcloth or newspaper to protect the surface.

Spray Easter egg decor

  1. We cover the work area so as not to splash everything around. You can spray in a cardboard box.
  2. Dilute acrylic paint of the desired color with water to the consistency of liquid sour cream. The thicker the paint, the worse the splashes will be.
  3. With a sharp movement, remove the bristles of the brush with your thumb. When the pile returns to its place, the splashes fly onto the surface to be decorated. If this is your first time trying this technique, have some sheets of paper ready to practice on. This technique is simple but requires some practice.

Adviсe

  • Spot splashesare obtained when drops fly perpendicular to the surface.
  • To get dashes, you want the drops to fall at an angle.
  • For small splashesThere should be a little paint on the brush (it’s better to shake off the excess onto paper in advance).
  • To obtain large splashes, you need to put more paint on the brush, and the movements should be sharper.

Marble

Take a look at this stylish Easter egg decor idea if you have bottles of old nail polish lying around.

  1. Pour the varnish directly into a plate of water and lower the egg into it.
  2. We roll the egg a little so that the varnish lies completely on it, take it out and let it dry.

  • braid.

Collect several of these eggs with plants and decorations in a small basket or wooden box for a great centerpiece for your Easter table.

The thinnest tissue paper will create accents. Instead, you can use newspaper or wrapping paper for the same purpose. You can simply tear the paper into uneven pieces or cut out shapes from it.

  3. We cut along the contour with scissors and trace the outline of the letters onto the surface with a pencil.
  4. Then we begin to cut out each small letter (yes, the details turn out to be microscopic, but they work out) and finish everything that could not be cut out right away.
  5. We outline the inscription with a marker or a thin brush with paint.

The tradition of giving each other eggs at Easter carries deep symbolic meaning. According to legend, the stone with which the tomb of Jesus Christ was closed had the shape of an egg. For Christians, the Easter egg is a reminder of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the color red, which eggs are most often painted in, symbolizes suffering.

When to dye eggs for Easter

Waiting until the last moment is a bad idea. In accordance with church traditions, eggs need to be painted on the eve of Easter, on Maundy Thursday. Easter is celebrated in 2019 April 28, and Maundy Thursday will fall on the 25th. However, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week (the final 6 days of Lent) are also suitable. The main thing is not on Good Friday and not on Holy Saturday.

How to dye eggs for Easter

Due to the chemical properties of some dyes, we have divided popular dyeing methods into two groups: for eggs that can be eaten after dyeing, and for eggs that will be used only as a decorative element.

For food

Decorate and serve.

1. Onion skins

The easiest way to color eggs, known to many since childhood. First, boil a large amount of onion peels in water and let the broth brew, and only then boil the eggs in it. This will make the color more vibrant.

2. Plant impressions

An improved method of cooking in onion skins, for which you will need leaves and twigs of plants. Even ordinary parsley and dill look beautiful. To prevent them from crumbling, soak them in cool water. Attach the sheet to the raw egg and secure it with nylon (old nylon tights will do), tie it with thread so that it does not slip. Cook in onion broth.

3. Lacy eggs

Even simpler - wrap the egg in a piece of textured lace before boiling, stretch the fabric and tie with thread.

You will need napkins with beautiful patterns. Instead of glue, which is not edible, use egg white. Cut out a pattern from a napkin, apply it to the surface, coat it with protein using a brush.

5. Marble eggs

Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and the same amount of vinegar to the dye diluted according to the instructions, stir. Place boiled white eggs into the solution. The oil will cause the eggs to color unevenly. It is enough to withstand about 4 minutes. To get more complex designs, make the solution more concentrated or increase the time to 10-15 minutes.

6. Tiffany style

Apply round stickers before dipping the boiled eggs into the dye. They should be foil or plastic; paper ones may get wet. If you can't find these, use double-sided tape. And to get a fashionable shade, mix blue and green dyes. Let the egg sit for one to two minutes.

7. Ombre effect

To create the effect of a smooth color transition, place the egg in a ladle and lower almost the entire egg into the coloring solution. Then gradually lift the egg up so that it colors from light to dark. The transition will be smoother if you constantly slightly raise and lower the egg. The whole procedure will take about 3-5 minutes.

Not for food

Some creative dyeing methods are not suitable for eggs you plan to eat. It's all about harmful substances that are contained in certain dyes and are not intended for consumption. Take precautions.

1. Golden eggs

Artistic gold leaf, similar to gold foil, is used in many decorative works. You can buy it in art stores. This pattern looks beautiful on both white and pre-dyed eggs. You can also completely cover the eggs with gold leaf.

2. Space eggs

Pour room temperature water into the container and put on gloves. Pour out blue or purple nail polish, or several colors. Stir with a stick to create a marbled effect. Immerse the egg in the solution and swirl. Remove with tongs and dry.

3. Doodling eggs

Spectacular patterns in the doodling style can be applied with a regular permanent marker or felt-tip pen.

4. Smiley eggs

Yellow food coloring plus markers. Very simple and fun.

5. Easter Bunny

We cut out rabbit ears from paper and attach them with glue. We make a flower crown from stems with flowers, tying the ends with thread.

6. Silk dyeing

You will need silk fabric or, for example, an old silk tie with a beautiful pattern. Take raw white eggs (this will make the picture brighter). Cut the fabric into small pieces, wrap each egg, and secure with thread. Cook in water with the addition of vinegar.

7. For designers

Treat a designer you know with Pantone-style Easter eggs. The most fashionable color of 2019 according to Pantone is Living Coral, number 16-1546.

8. Mother of Dragons

Game of Thrones fans will surely love this decor option. To make scales, you will need decorative sequins or colored confetti. They need to be glued onto the surface of the egg in a checkerboard pattern and covered with spray paint. The paint with a metallic effect looks beautiful.

  • vinegar

How to do?

How else can you color eggs for Easter?

There are still many options left in our arsenal, but we will tell you about the simplest and not too expensive.

  1. Prepare several pans and the required number of eggs. Pour water into one of them, 1 tbsp. l. bite (you don't need to use vinegar), add 2 tbsp. l. turmeric and put it on the fire, dropping a few eggs there. After 10-20 minutes, when the eggs acquire a yellowish tint, pull out the dyes and place them on a dry towel or on a plate. If you want the color to be more intense, leave the eggs in the solution overnight.
  2. Meanwhile, grate the beets and chop the red cabbage. Place both ingredients in cold water with vinegar and bring to a boil, adding a few eggs. If you want a brighter color, leave the eggs overnight or at least for a few hours in this solution. This way you will get pink (beets) and green (cabbage) colors.

Following this simple scheme, you can use tea or coffee, nettle, birch, and calendula leaves.

What do you need?

  • pieces of fabric (scarves, ties)
  • threads
  • vinegar

How to do?

  1. Cut the fabric into square pieces.
  2. Wrap the egg in fabric so that the right side is on the inside. Then secure it with threads and dip it in water with vinegar (3 tablespoons per liter).
  3. After the water boils, cook the dye for 10 minutes.
  4. After this, carefully remove the cloth from the egg and set it aside to cool.
