destroyed a large industrial center to the ground and claimed the lives of about
650,000 people. The damage caused by the earthquake was estimated at
several million dollars.

The tremors were so strong that
the shock wave quickly reached Beijing, where many
buildings. Under the collapsed walls of houses, more than
100 people, another 780,000 residents of the capital were seriously injured
varying degrees of severity.

Is the sheep stupid

People say: "A dog is a friend
person." This statement is accepted by all unconditionally. But here in
the fact that sheep are also real friends of man, could not
so long ago make sure the inhabitants of the southern regions of Romania. Since then there is rarely
you can hear the comparison: stupid as a ram.

On the eve of the tragedy, March 3, 1977,
one of the owners of a small sheep farm located near
Bucharest, noticed that the sheep were not behaving quite normally. Created
the impression that they are very worried about something. Animals then huddled
to each other, then scattered in different directions, then bleated, then
attentively listened to what was going on around. So passed
restless night...

And early in the morning on May 4 was recorded
first earthquake. Several more followed him.
The 1977 Bucharest earthquake was subsequently estimated at 7.5
points on the Richter scale.

The results of the disaster were
terrifying. In the capital itself were damaged or destroyed
many buildings. More than 15,000 people died under their ruins, another 10,500
residents were seriously injured. In addition, almost everyone who succeeded
flee the disaster, were left homeless.

Large Romanian port of Tsimnicheya
was almost completely destroyed. Desolation reigned all around. Mayor
Dumitru Sandu did not recognize his city.

He later recalled: “The earth walked
around the walker. One third of my city was gone ... Everywhere I saw
sobbing people. We didn't know if new shocks would follow, so
remained on the streets. Due to the fear of aftershocks, no one
close my eyes…”

Indeed, the victims
earthquakes in the Romanian regions were a terrible sight. AT
for almost two weeks, on the territory of the destroyed cities,
rescue measures, as a result of which, from under the ruins of houses
managed to pull out several hundred people. However, cases are known
when they rescued people who managed to survive, being under the rubble of more than
weeks.

Local mayors were afraid
epidemics, so they decided to fill up all
streets with gypsum dust and chlorine powder. As a result, the air became
so severe that many of the survivors fainted
due to acute oxygen starvation.

No damage was done during the earthquake
only Bucharest and Tsimnicheya, but also the city of Ploiesti, located on
distance of 70 kilometers from the epicenter. There were fixed
minor (compared to the destruction in Bucharest) damage
almost all industrial and residential buildings.

The above example of the reaction of sheep to
the approach of catastrophe is not the only one. Yes, these animals
predicted the earthquake that occurred in Ashgabat in 1948.

After the tragic events, one of
directors of a large fur farm N. N. Korobchenko
He recalled that the day before the sheep had not behaved quite normally. That's what
he said in an interview: "The animals huddled in groups and did not
grazed. However, at first, the shepherds grazing sheep did not give this any
values."

Another confirmation of the theory of
active reaction of animals to environmental changes before a natural
Serbian poet Jole Stanisic wrote in distress:

At dawn with a rod and a flute I'm on
pasture led the flock; The beam was just sneaking into the gorge, And the lambs were frolicking
at the feet. But the sheep sensed misfortune, Suddenly clattered their hooves, Sensitive ears
alerted - The path and the meadow swayed ...

Stanisic's "Shepherd's Complaint" appeared after a memorable for many Serbs
earthquake that occurred on April 15, 1979. The poem is included in
poetic cycle called "Wounded Montenegro".
