Launching Applications To launch an application, touch its icon on the Home or Applications screen. Hidden applications can be used further. Disable Apps: Disable default apps that cannot be removed from the device. Disabled applications cannot be used. Delete apps: Delete downloaded apps. 32 Basics Entering text Keyboard layout When you type a message, write notes, and perform many other actions, a keyboard is automatically displayed on the screen. For some languages, text input is not supported. To enter text, you must change the input language to one of the supported languages. Enter capital letters. To make all the characters you enter in uppercase, double-tap it. Delete the previous character. Enter punctuation marks. Move to the next line. Change keyboard settings. Entering a space. Changing the input language Tap → Select input languages and specify the working languages. When two or more languages are selected, you can switch between them by swiping the space bar on your keyboard left or right. Changing the keyboard size Click the button, select a language from the Input Languages menu, and select the desired keyboard layout. Each key of the 3x4 Keyboard layout has three or four characters. To enter the desired character, touch the key the appropriate number of times until the desired character appears. 33 Basics More on the keyboard Press and hold to access various functions. Press and hold the home button and the power button at the same time. → Album → Screenshots. After taking a screenshot The screenshot will be saved in Gallery → Screenshot, you can edit the image and share it with other users. You can also take screenshots in other ways. For more information, see Capture a screen with the palm of your hand. Screenshots cannot be taken with some applications. My Files Use this application to access various files stored on your device or elsewhere, such as a cloud storage service. Tap My files on the Apps screen. Search for files or folders. Access to additional options. View files by category. View download history. View files stored on the device. View files saved by the cloud storage service. 35 Basics Power saving feature Power saving To save battery power, you can restrict the use of device functions. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Energy saver → Power saver, and slide the Power saver switch to turn this feature on. You can also open the Quick Settings panel and select Energy Saver to turn it on. Functions available in this mode: Restrict background data: Prevent apps running in the background from using mobile data. Limit performance: Limit various options, such as turning off the illumination of the Recent Apps and Back buttons. Grayscale: Displays all screen colors in grayscale. Extreme Power Saving In this mode, you can extend the battery life of your device. In maximum power saving mode, the following happens: All screen colors are displayed in grayscale. Access to applications is limited to the list of main and selected applications only. Disables mobile data when the screen is turned off. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions are disabled. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Energy saver → Extreme power saver, and swipe the Extreme power saver switch to turn it on. You can also open the quick settings panel and select Max. savings to turn it on. To add an app to the home screen, tap and select an app. To remove an application from the home screen, tap → Remove, select the application with the icon, and select OK. To change settings for maximum power saving mode, such as network connection or sound, select → Settings. To turn off the maximum power saving mode, select → Turn off power saving. The maximum standby time is the amount of time left before the battery runs out (when the device is not in use). The waiting time depends on the settings of the device and the environment in which it is used. 36 Basics Viewing Help To access help information and learn how to use your device and applications, open the Applications screen and tap Settings → Help. To view help for an open application, select → Help. Some applications may not contain help information. 37 Connecting to a network Mobile data To surf the Internet or share media files with other devices, you need to be connected to a mobile network. For information about the available options, see Data Usage. Dual SIM models: On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Use. data → select a SIM or USIM card, then select the checkbox next to Mobile data. Single SIM models: On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Use. data, and then check the box next to Mobile data. You can also open the quick settings panel and select Mobile. data to enable it. Wi-Fi To browse the Internet or share media with other devices, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network. For available options, see Wi-Fi. The device uses a non-harmonized frequency and is designed to operate in all European countries. The use of wireless LANs indoors is permitted in all countries of the European Union without any restrictions, the use of wireless LANs outdoors is prohibited. To conserve battery power, we recommend turning off the Wi-Fi function when not in use. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Wi-Fi and slide the Wi-Fi switch to turn it on. 2 Select a network from the list of Wi-Fi networks. Password-protected networks are indicated by a padlock icon. 3 Select CONNECT. Once connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device will connect to it every time the network is available without asking for a password. If you don't want your device to connect to a network automatically, select the network from the list of networks and click FORGET. 38 Connecting to a network Tethering and hotspot About tethering and mobile hotspots Use these features to access your device's mobile connection from a computer or other device when you do not have an Internet connection. You can connect via Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth. Additional charges may apply for using this feature. Mobile hotspot Use your device as a mobile hotspot to share your device's mobile connection with other devices. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Tethering and hotspot → Mobile hotspot. 2 Tap the Mobile hotspot switch to enable this feature. will appear in the status bar. Your device may be found by other devices in the list of Wi-Fi networks. To set a password for connecting to a mobile hotspot, tap → Set hotspot and select a security level. Then enter the password and select SAVE. 3 Find and add your device to the list of Wi-Fi networks on the other device. 4 Use a mobile data connection to access the Internet on the connected device. 39 Network connection USB tethering Share your device's mobile data connection with other devices using a USB cable. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Tethering and hotspot. 2 Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. 3 Tap the USB tethering icon. . When the devices are connected to each other, the 4 icon will appear in the status bar. You can use mobile data on your computer using your device. Bluetooth tethering Share your device's mobile data connection with other devices via Bluetooth. Make sure the connected computer supports the Bluetooth function. 1 Pair your device with another Bluetooth device. For more information, see Connecting to other Bluetooth devices. 2 On the Apps screen of your device, tap Settings → Tethering and hotspot. 3 Select the checkbox next to Bluetooth tethering. 4 On the connected device, open the Bluetooth settings screen, tap → Internet access. When the devices are connected to each other, an icon will appear in the status bar. 5 Use a mobile data connection to access the Internet on the connected device. The connection methods depend on the type of connected devices. 40 Motions and ergonomic features Motions and gestures Accidental shock or physical impact on the device can cause unwanted input or command execution. Do the movements correctly. Smart notifications On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Smart notifications, and swipe the Smart notifications switch to enable this feature. The device will vibrate when picked up, notifying you of missed calls or new messages. This feature may not work if the screen is on or the device is not on a flat surface. 41 Motions and ergonomic features Mute On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Mute, and then toggle the Mute switch to turn this feature on. Covering the screen with your palm Cover the screen with your palm to mute an incoming call or alarm. Flip your device Flip your device to mute an incoming call or alarm. 42 Motions and ergonomic features Palm swipe to capture On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture, and toggle the Palm to capture screen switch to enable this feature. To take a screenshot, place your palm edge-on on the display and swipe right → Album → left or vice versa. The screenshot will be saved in Gallery → Screenshots. After taking a screenshot, you can edit the image and share it with other users. Screenshots cannot be taken with some applications. 43 Motion and ergonomic features Multiple windows About Multi window mode In this mode, you can display two applications on the screen at the same time. This feature can be used to read email or browse the web while watching a video. Activating Multiple windows 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Multiple windows, and then slide the Multiple windows switch to turn this feature on. You can also open the Quick Settings panel and select Multiple windows to turn it on. 2 Press and hold to open the Multi Window panel. 3 Press and hold an application icon and drag it from the bar to the screen. Then drag the next app icon to another window on the screen. Application icons with check mark at the same time. can be launched in separate windows on the screen 44 Motions and ergonomic features Creating a combination of windows in the Multi window mode With this function, you can save combinations of active applications in the Multi window mode. 1 Launch two apps in a split screen in Multi Window mode. 2 Open the multiscreen panel and tap → Create. A combination of windows will be added to the top of the Multiple Window mode panel. To remove window combinations, open the Multi window mode panel, select → Edit, select a combination of multiple windows, and select REMOVE. Resizing a window Drag the circle between application windows up or down to adjust the size of the windows. 45 Motion and ergonomic features What you can do with Multi Window In Multi Window, select an application window and a blue frame will appear around it. Touch the circle between application windows to access the following options. : Swap apps in Multi Window mode. : Drag and drop text or copied images from one window to another. Click and hold an item in the selected window, then drag it to the desired location in the other window. Some applications do not support this feature. : Close the application. 46 Motion and ergonomic features One-handed operation To conveniently operate the device with one hand, you can switch to one-handed operation mode. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Screen & wallpaper → One-handed operation, and then tap the One-handed operation switch to activate it. To switch to one-handed operation, hold the device in one hand. Then quickly swipe your thumb from the edge of the screen to the center and back. Enlarge or reduce the screen size. Return to full screen view. Move to the previous screen. Volume control. Return to the main screen. Open the list of recently used applications. 47 Personalization Managing your Home and Apps screen Managing your Home screen Adding items Touch and hold an app or folder icon on the Apps screen, then drag it to the Home screen. To add widgets, open the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area, touch Widgets, touch and hold a widget icon, and then drag it to the Home screen. Move and delete an item Tap and hold an app icon on the home screen, and then drag it to a new location. To move an element to another panel, drag it to the edge of the screen. Frequently used applications can also be moved to the shortcut area at the bottom of the home screen. To delete an item, touch and hold it. Then drag it to the Delete item that appears at the top of the screen. Create a folder 1 Tap and hold an app on the Home screen, then drag it to Create Folder that appears at the top of the screen. 2 Enter a folder name. 3 Tap the icon, select the apps you want to move to the folder, and then tap DONE. 48 Personalization Managing panels To add, remove, or move a panel, on the Home screen, press and hold an empty area. To add a panel, scroll left to the last page and click the button. To move a panel, press and hold the panel thumbnail, and then drag it to a new location. To remove a panel, press and hold a panel thumbnail, and then drag it to Delete at the top of the screen. To designate a panel as the main panel, click the button. Controlling the Apps screen Changing the sorting method On the Apps screen, tap → Sort by and select a sorting method. Hide apps Hide apps you don't want to see on the Apps screen. On the Apps screen, tap → Hide apps, select apps, and then tap DONE. To show hidden apps, tap → Show hidden apps, select the apps, and then tap DONE. Moving items On the Applications screen, tap → Edit. Tap and hold an item, then drag it to the desired location on the screen. To move an element to another panel, drag it to the edge of the screen. To move an element to a new panel, drag it to the New Page option that appears at the top of the screen. Creating folders 1 On the Applications screen, tap → Create folder. Alternatively, tap → Edit, touch and hold an app, and then drag it to Create Folder that appears at the top of the screen. 2 Enter a folder name. 3 Tap the icon, select the apps you want to move to the folder, and then tap DONE. 49 Personalization Customize wallpaper and ringtones Set wallpaper You can set a picture or photo stored on your device as wallpaper for your home screen or lock screen. 1 On the Home screen, press and hold an empty area, then select Wallpaper. Alternatively, open the Applications screen, tap Settings → Display and wallpaper → Wallpaper. 2 Select the screen for which you want to set or change the wallpaper. 3 Scroll left or right at the bottom of the screen to select an image for wallpaper. To select pictures taken with the device's camera or other pictures, select From gallery. 4 Select SET AS WALLPAPER or DONE. Change ringtones Change ringtones for incoming calls and notification sounds. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Sounds and notifications. Dual SIM models: To set a ringtone for incoming calls, tap Ringtone → SIM or USIM card → Ringtones, select a ringtone, and press OK. To set as a ringtone a melody saved in the device memory or in your account, select ADD. To set a notification ringtone, tap Ringtone → SIM or USIM card → Notifications, select a ringtone, and press OK. Single SIM models: To set a ringtone for incoming calls, select Ringtones, select a ringtone, and select OK. To set as a ringtone a melody saved in the device memory or in your account, select ADD. To set a notification ringtone, select Notification ringtone, select a ringtone, and select OK. 50 Personalization Changing the screen lock method To prevent unauthorized access to your personal information, you can change the screen lock method. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock screen → Screen lock, and then select a lock method. An unlock code is required to unlock the device. If you have forgotten your unlock code, contact a Samsung service center to reset your code. Drawing Create a drawing by connecting four or more dots with a line, then repeat to confirm. Set a backup PIN to unlock your screen in case you forget this pattern. PIN The PIN code consists of numbers only. Enter at least four digits, then repeat the PIN to confirm. Password The password consists of letters and numbers. Enter at least four characters, including numbers and letters, then repeat your password to confirm. 51 Personalization Private mode About private mode With this mode, you can prevent unauthorized access to content on your device, such as pictures and documents. You can save content to a specific location and then turn off private mode, safely hiding the content. Content protection 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Privacy and slide the Privacy switch to enable this feature. Alternatively, open the quick settings panel and select Private mode to enable this mode. When you enable Private Mode for the first time, set an unlock code and back up your PIN. 2 Enter the private mode unlock code. When this mode is enabled, an icon will appear at the top of the screen. 3 To select the items you want to hide, press and hold an item in the list, select the checkboxes next to the items, and then tap → Add to private mode or tap → Move → Private → MOVE HERE. An icon will appear on items moved to private mode. 4 After selecting the items you want to hide, open the Applications screen, tap Settings → Private mode, and slide the Private mode switch to turn it off. Or you can open the Quick Settings panel and select Private Mode to turn it off. The selected items will disappear from the screen. Before turning off private mode, make sure that all files are saved and moved to the selected location. 52 Personalization Viewing hidden content Hidden content can only be viewed when private mode is enabled. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Private mode and slide the Private mode switch to turn it on. Alternatively, open the quick settings panel and select Private mode to enable this mode. 2 Enter the private mode unlock code. 3 On the Applications screen, tap My files → Personal. All items moved to private mode will appear on the screen. Easy Mode The Easy Mode improves user experience with a simplified interface and larger icons on the home screen. You can open frequently used applications and settings, and add shortcuts to your favorite contacts. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Home mode → Home mode, select the apps you want to apply easy mode to, and tap DONE. To return to Home mode, open the Home screen and tap Easy settings → Home mode → Home mode → DONE. Managing shortcuts To add an app shortcut to the home screen, scroll left, press the button, and select an app. To add a contact shortcut to the home screen, scroll right and press the button. To remove a shortcut from the home screen, tap → Edit and select the app or contact with the icon. 53 Personalization Transferring data from your old device Using backup accounts You can transfer backup data from your old device to your new device using your Google account or Samsung account. For more information, see Data backup and recovery. Using Samsung Smart Switch The Smart Switch app allows you to transfer data from your old device to your new one. Please visit www.samsung.com/smartswitch for details. Samsung Smart Switch may not be supported by some devices or computers. Smart Switch Mobile app Use this app to transfer data from your old device to your new one. This app can be downloaded from the Galaxy Apps Store or the Play Store. 1 On your device, select Smart Switch. 2 On your device, select an option based on the type of your previous device, and follow the on-screen instructions. If your previous device used Android OS, make sure you have the Smart Switch Mobile app installed on it. See Help for more information. Smart Switch App for PC Use this feature to import backup data (from certain brands of mobile devices) from your computer to your device. The application can be downloaded from www.samsung.com/smartswitch. 1 Back up your old mobile device to your computer. For more information, contact the device manufacturer. 2 Launch the Smart Switch app on your computer. 54 Personalization 3 Connect your current device to your computer using a USB cable. 4 To transfer your data to your mobile device, select the manufacturer of your old mobile device on your computer and follow the instructions. Using Samsung Kies Import backed up data from your computer using Samsung Kies to restore data to your device. You can also back up data on your computer using Samsung Kies. For more information, see Connecting with Samsung Kies. Setting up accounts Adding accounts Some apps on your device require a registered account. Create accounts to get the most out of your device. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Accounts → Add account and select an account service. Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account. To sync content with your accounts, select an account and check the boxes next to the items you want to sync. Dual SIM models: Press and hold the 0 button until the + sign appears. Enter the country code, area code, and phone number, and then click the or icon. To block outgoing international calls, tap → Settings → Calling → Advanced →, select a SIM or USIM card, and tap → Call barring. After that, select the type of calls and check the box International calls. Single SIM models: Press and hold the 0 button until the + sign appears. Enter the country code, area code, and phone number, then click the icon. To block outgoing international calls, tap → Settings → Calling → Advanced → Call barring. After that, select the type of calls and check the box International calls. Incoming calls Answering a call When a call comes in, drag the icon outside the large circle. Reject a call When a call comes in, drag the icon outside the large circle. To reject an incoming call and send a message to the caller, drag the rejection message line up. To create messages for rejected calls, on the Apps screen, tap Phone → → Settings → Calling → Call rejection → Reject messages → . Missed calls If you have missed calls, an icon appears in the status bar. To view a list of missed calls, open the notifications panel. Alternatively, on the Applications screen, tap Phone → Logs to view your missed calls. 58 Phone Options during a call During a voice call The following actions are available: : Increase the volume. ext. call: make another call. Dial: Keyboard access. End: end the current call. Speaker: Turn the speakerphone on or off. When using the speakerphone, speak into the microphone located on the top of the device and keep the device away from your ear. Off Mic: Mute the microphone so that the other party cannot hear you. Bluetooth: Switch to a Bluetooth headset (if your device is connected to it). Click the icon to view more options. When launching applications during a call, a call screen popup () appears. While using the applications, you can continue the conversation on the phone. To move the popup, drag it to the desired location. To remove a pop-up, press and hold it, and then select Yes. To return to the call screen, tap the pop-up window. 59 Phone During a video call Tap the screen to use the following options: → Hide me: Hide your image from the other party. → Outgoing image: Select an image to show to the other party. → Take photo: Take a picture of the other party. → Record video: Record a video of the other party's image. → Notes: Create a note. → Messages: Send a message. → Keyboard: Access the keyboard. → Turn off speaker / Turn on speaker: Turn the speakerphone on or off. When using the speakerphone, speak into the microphone located on the top of the device and keep the device away from your ear. → Switch to Headset / Switch to Phone: Change the audio output mode (through a connected Bluetooth headset or device speaker). Switch: Switch between the front and rear cameras. Off Mic: Mute the microphone so that the other party cannot hear you. End: end the current call. 60 Contacts Adding contacts Moving contacts from other devices You can move contacts to your device from other devices. For more information, see Transfer data from your old device. Adding contacts manually 1 On the Applications screen, tap Contacts → Contacts. 2 Tap the icon and enter the details of the contact. : Add an image. / : Add or remove a contact details field. 3 Select SAVE. To add a phone number to your contact list using the keypad, select Keypad, enter the number, and select Add to contacts. Importing and exporting contacts With this function, you can import contacts from other storage devices to your device or export them to other storage devices. On the Applications screen, tap Contacts → Contacts. Tap the button → Settings → Contacts → Import/Export Contacts and select the import or export function. 61 Contacts Search for contacts On the Applications screen, tap Contacts → Contacts. The following are ways to search for contacts: Scroll up or down in the contact list. Swipe your finger on the pointer to the right of your contact list to scroll quickly. Tap the search field at the top of your contact list and enter your search criteria. Turning on the camera when the screen is locked To be able to quickly capture special moments when the screen is locked, the Camera icon is always available on the screen. The device will combine the received photos into one panoramic image. Make sure the blue frame is within the viewfinder window. When taking a wide-angle self-portrait, the subject must remain still. Photo resolution may vary depending on lighting conditions. Depending on shooting conditions, the top and bottom of the image on the preview screen may not be framed. For best results, extend the arm holding the device as far as possible. Auto Selfie This mode is used to automatically find a face and focus the camera on it when taking a self-portrait with the rear camera. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Camera → Mode → Auto selfie. 2 Move the frame to where your face will appear and adjust the size. 3 Position the device so that the rear view camera is facing your face. When a face is detected, the device beeps. After 2 seconds, the device automatically takes a photo. Panorama Use this mode to take a picture from multiple pictures combined. The device identifies the photo using in the Gallery app. On the Apps screen, tap Camera → Mode → Panorama. For optimal shots, follow the tips below: Move the camera slowly in one direction. The image must remain within the camera's viewfinder. Do not photograph subjects against an indistinct background such as an empty sky or a blank wall. 70 Camera Night Use this mode for shooting in low light conditions without a flash. On the Apps screen, tap Camera → Mode → Night. GIF Animation Use this mode to create an animated photo from a series of photos. On the Apps screen, tap Camera → Mode → GIF animation. ISO: Select the ISO sensitivity. This setting controls the light sensitivity of the camera. It is measured in units equivalent to those of a film camera. Low values are for stationary and brightly lit objects. High values are used for fast moving or poorly lit objects. White Balance: Select an appropriate white balance to create a more natural color range in the image. The settings are designed for specific lighting conditions. These settings are similar to the thermal exposure characteristics of white balance in professional cameras. Metering modes: select the type of exposure meter. This setting determines how light intensity is measured. Center weight - background light intensity is measured in the center of the frame. Spot - measure the value of illumination in a certain place. Matrix - measures the average value for the entire frame. Tap to take a photo: Tap an image on the preview screen to take a photo. Video Size: Select the shooting resolution. The higher the resolution, the higher the image quality. However, more free memory space is consumed. Recording Mode: Change the recording mode. 72 Camera Geotags: Attach a location tag to a photo. Under bad weather conditions, as well as in places where there may be obstacles in the path of the GPS signal (spaces between buildings, lowlands), the quality of communication may decrease. When you post a photo with a location tag attached to it, other users will see the location data. Tips for Better Voice Recognition: Speak words clearly. Speak the words in a quiet place. Don't use offensive words or slang. Do not speak with a local accent or use dialect words. Depending on the environment and how you speak, the device may not recognize commands or may not recognize them correctly. 80 Useful apps and features Calling up S Voice in standby mode If you do not use S Voice for a while, it automatically enters standby mode. Tap the microphone icon or say "Hey Galaxy" to your device to continue voice recognition. When you enable this option for the first time, select START to adjust the sound. The unit will perform a series of beep checks to adjust the level and start beeping. Select YES if you hear these tones, or NO if you do not hear the tones. Repeat this step for each test until the audio setup is complete. Then select the Music sound check box and select OK to apply this setting when listening to music. When the volume level is set to 14 or higher, the Adapt Sound setting will not affect the sound of the music. If the volume level drops to 13 or lower, the Adapt Sound setting will be enabled again. With Bluetooth connectivity, you can share data and media files with other devices. Samsung is not responsible for the loss, interception or unauthorized use of data sent or received using Bluetooth. Make sure you are communicating with a trusted device that has the appropriate security level. If there are obstacles between devices, the range may be reduced. Some devices, in particular those not tested by the Bluetooth SIG or approved by such tests, may not be compatible with the device. Do not use Bluetooth communications for illegal purposes (such as distributing pirated copies of files or illegally intercepting conversations for commercial purposes). Samsung is not responsible for the consequences of such use of Bluetooth communications. Connecting to other Bluetooth devices 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Bluetooth, slide the Bluetooth switch to turn it on, and then tap SEARCH. A list of discovered devices will appear. To make a device visible to others, tap the device name. 96 Connecting with other devices 2 Select a device to pair. If your device has previously paired with this device, tap the device name without confirming the auto-generated key. If the connected device is not in the list, you need to enable the visibility setting on it. 3 Accept the Bluetooth authorization request on both devices to confirm. Sending and receiving data Many applications support Bluetooth data transfer. You can exchange data such as contact information or media files with other Bluetooth devices. The following is an example of how you can send an image to another device. Sending a picture 1 On the Applications screen, tap Gallery. 2 Select an image. 3 Tap → Bluetooth and select the device you want to send the image to. A list of connected devices will appear on the screen. 3 Select DISCONNECT → YES to end the connection. 99 Connecting with other NFC devices (On NFC-enabled models) About NFC technology Your device can read NFC (Near Field Communication) tags containing product information. Once you have downloaded the required apps, you can also use this feature to make payments and purchase tickets for transport and events. There is a built-in NFC antenna around the camera lens on the back of the device. Be careful when handling the device to avoid damaging the NFC antenna. NFC function Use the NFC function to send images or contact information to other devices, or to read information from NFC tags. If you insert a SIM or USIM card with payment options, you can easily shop with your device. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → NFC, and slide the NFC switch to turn it on. Or open the quick settings panel and select NFC to turn it on. Touch the device with the NFC antenna area on the back of the NFC tag. The tag information will appear. Make sure your device screen is unlocked. Otherwise, the device will not be able to read NFC tags or receive data. 100 Connecting with other devices Shopping with the NFC feature Before you can use the NFC feature for payments, you need to register with a mobile payment service. To register or learn more about this service, contact your mobile service provider. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → NFC, and slide the NFC switch to turn it on. Or open the quick settings panel and select NFC to turn it on. Place the NFC antenna area on the back of the device against the NFC card reader. To set the default payment app, tap Pay by touch and select an app. The list of payment services may not include all available payment applications. To pay with a SIM or USIM card, insert the appropriate NFC-enabled card into the SIM card slot numbered 1 (1). SIM card slot number 2 (2) does not support NFC. 2 1 Sending data The Android Beam feature allows you to send data such as web pages and contacts to devices that support the NFC function. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → NFC, and slide the NFC switch to turn it on. Or open the quick settings panel and select NFC to turn it on. 2 Select Android Beam and tap the Android Beam switch to enable this feature. 3 Select an item and bring your NFC antenna close to the NFC antenna of another device. 4 When the Touch to send icon appears on the screen. tap the screen to send the item. 101 Connecting with other S Beam devices This feature allows you to send data such as videos, images, and documents. 1 Turn on the S Beam function on the receiving device. 2 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → NFC, and slide the NFC switch to turn it on. Or open the quick settings panel and select NFC to turn it on. 3 Select S Beam and press the S Beam switch to turn this feature on. 4 Select a file and bring your NFC antenna close to the NFC antenna of another device. 5 When the Touch to share icon appears on the screen. tap the screen to send the file. Do not send copyrighted data using the S Beam function. This is a violation of copyright law. Samsung shall not be held liable for any infringement resulting from the illegal use of copyrighted data. If both devices try to transfer data at the same time, the transfer may fail. 102 Connecting with other devices Quick Connect About Quick Connect Use this feature to easily find and connect to nearby devices. You can also easily transfer content from your device to your computer. If the device you want to connect does not support Quick Connect, enable Wi-Fi Direct on the device, and then start Quick Connect. on your device. Connection methods vary depending on the type of connected devices and the content being transferred. The device name may change depending on which Bluetooth devices it connects to. For example, the device name might look like "BT MAC". Connecting to other devices 1 Open the notifications panel and select Quick connect. When using this feature for the first time, select the visibility option and select ON. FAST CONNECTION. After the panel opens, the Wi-Fi function will turn on automatically and search for nearby devices. 2 Select a device to connect. The next steps depend on the type of device you are connecting. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the devices to each other. To allow nearby devices to discover and connect to your device, tap MORE → Set device visibility → Device visibility, and then select an option. Re-search for devices If the device you need is not in the list, search for it manually. Touch the REFRESH icon and select a device from the list of discovered devices. 103 Connecting with other devices Sharing content Share content with connected devices. 1 Open the notifications panel and select Quick connect. 2 Select a device from the discovered list. 3 Select a media category. 4 Select the content to transfer and select DONE. Your device will begin streaming content to the connected device. Screen Mirroring About Screen Mirroring This feature allows you to connect your device to a large screen using an AllShare Cast adapter or HomeSync, and then share content. Screen mirroring-enabled devices (AllShare Cast adapter, HomeSync) 104 Connecting with other devices This feature may not be available depending on the region or service provider. Some files may buffer during playback depending on the network connection. To save power, disable this feature when not in use. Restricting the Wi-Fi frequency range may prevent AllShare Cast or HomeSync adapters from being detected and connected. When playing videos or playing games on a TV screen, select the appropriate TV mode to take full advantage of all available features. Watch content on TV Before you connect your device to your TV, connect a device that supports screen mirroring to your TV. See the device's user manual for instructions on how to establish a connection. The following is an example of how you can view content on a TV connected via an AllShare Cast adapter. 1 Connect the AllShare Cast adapter to your TV using an HDMI cable. 2 Select a connection mode on the TV, such as HDMI, to connect an external device. 3 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → Screen Mirroring. A list of discovered devices will appear. 4 Select a device to connect. The screen of your device will be displayed on the TV screen. The first time you connect your device, press and hold the name of the adapter in the list, then enter the PIN on the TV screen. 5 Open or play the file, then use the buttons on the device to set playback options. 105 Connecting with other devices Mobile printing Connect your device to a printer via Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct to print images and documents. Some printers may not be compatible with your device. Adding printer plugins Add the printer plugins you want to connect the device to. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and sharing → Printing → Download extras. module and find the plug-in of the desired printer in the Play Store section. Select a plugin and install it. Connecting to a Printer On the Apps screen, tap Settings → NFC and Sharing → Printing, select a printer plug-in, and slide the switch at the top right of the screen to enable this feature. It will start searching for printers connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device. Select the default printer. To add a printer manually, select the desired plug-in, click → Add Printer → ADD PRINTER, enter the details and click OK. To change print settings, select the printer plug-in and click → Settings. Print content While viewing content (images or documents), tap → Print → → All printers and select a printer. 106 Managing your device and data Updating your device You can update your device software to the latest version. Over-the-Air Update You can download and install a software update using the FOTA (Over-the-Air Firmware Download) service. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → About device → Software update → Update. Update using Samsung Kies You can download the latest version of Samsung Kies from the Samsung website. Launch Samsung Kies and connect your device to your computer. Samsung Kies will automatically recognize your device and show available updates in a dialog box (if available). Click the Update button on the dialog box to start the update process. For more information about updating, see the Samsung Kies Help. Do not turn off your computer or disconnect the USB cable while the device is being updated. Do not connect other media to the computer while the device is being updated. This may interfere with the update process. 107 Managing your device and data Transferring files between your device and a computer You can transfer audio, video, picture, and other types of files between your device and your computer. Do not disconnect the USB cable from the device while files are being transferred. Doing so may result in data loss or device damage. Do not disconnect the device from the computer while playing files stored on the device on the connected computer. Disconnect the device from the computer after the file has finished playing. When using a USB hub, devices may not be connected properly. Connect the device directly to the computer's USB port. Connecting as a media device 1 Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. 2 Open the notifications panel and select Connected as a media device → Media. device (MTP). If your computer does not support MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) or does not have the appropriate driver installed, select Camera (PTP). 3 Exchange files between your device and computer. Connecting with Samsung Kies Samsung Kies is a PC application that allows you to manage media content and personal information on Samsung devices. The latest version of Samsung Kies can be downloaded from the Samsung website. 1 Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. Samsung Kies will launch automatically. If Samsung Kies does not start automatically, double-click the Samsung Kies icon on your computer. 2 Exchange files between your device and computer. For more information, see the Samsung Kies help. 108 Managing your device and data Backing up and restoring your data Keep your personal information, app data, and settings safe. You can back up your important data to a backup account and access it later. Google account 1 Tap Settings on the Apps screen. 2 Select Backup and Reset and select the Backup data check box. 3 Select Backup account and specify the backup account. To restore your data, sign in to your Google account in the setup wizard. The setup wizard can be launched and opened by restoring the device to factory settings. If you do not sign in to your Google account in the setup wizard, the backup data cannot be restored. Samsung account On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Accounts → Add account → Samsung account and sign in to your Samsung account. Select Samsung account → Back up, check the data you want to back up, and select BACKUP NOW → BACKUP. To restore data, open the Applications screen, tap Settings → Accounts → Samsung account → Restore, select items, and then tap RESTORE. Reset device settings This function erases all device settings and data. Before resetting your device, it is recommended that you back up any important data stored in your device memory. For more information, see Data backup and recovery. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Backup and reset → Factory data reset → RESET DEVICE → ERASE ALL. The device will automatically restart. 109 Settings About the settings menu In this application, you can configure device and application settings, and add accounts. Tap Settings on the Apps screen. To search for keyword settings, tap the icon. The view mode can be changed to split tabs or a list. Tap → View type and select a view mode. Quick Settings View a list of your favorite settings. To change the list of favorite settings, tap → Edit quick settings, select an option in settings, and then tap DONE. Wi-Fi connections Turn on the Wi-Fi function to connect to a Wi-Fi network and access the Internet and other network devices. On the settings screen, tap Wi-Fi and slide the Wi-Fi switch to enable this feature. To ensure a stable network connection, you can set the network to automatically change (Wi-Fi or mobile network) depending on which one has a stronger signal. To automatically switch between networks, select the Auto network switch check box. 110 Settings Press the button to access the options. Search: Search for available networks. Wi-Fi Direct: Activate Wi-Fi Direct and connect devices directly to a Wi-Fi network to share files. Optional: Configure Wi-Fi settings. WPS button: Connect to a secure Wi-Fi network using the WPS button. Enter WPS PIN: Connect to a secure Wi-Fi network using a WPS PIN. Help: View help on using Wi-Fi. Set Wi-Fi sleep policy Tap → Advanced → Wi-Fi in sleep mode. When you turn off your device screen, all Wi-Fi connections are disabled. At the same time, the device automatically accesses mobile networks, if their use is indicated in the settings. This may result in data charges. To avoid additional charges, set the Always option. Bluetooth Turn on Bluetooth to communicate with other devices within a short distance. On the settings screen, tap Bluetooth and slide the Bluetooth switch to turn it on. Press the button to access additional options. Discovery Timeout: Set how long the device is displayed. Received Files: View received files via Bluetooth. Rename Device: Change the name of the device. Help: View help information about Bluetooth. 111 Settings Tethering and hotspot Use your device as a mobile hotspot to share your device's mobile connection with other devices. For more information, see Tethering and Access Point. On the Settings screen, select Tethering and hotspot. Mobile hotspot: Use the mobile hotspot to share device data with computers or other devices over Wi-Fi. You can use this function when network connection is not available. USB tethering: Use your device as a wireless USB tethering for your computer (mobile data connection accessed via USB). When connected to a computer, the device acts as a wireless modem. Bluetooth tethering: Use your device as a wireless Bluetooth tethering device for your computer (mobile data connection accessed via Bluetooth). Offline Mode This mode disables all wireless features of the device. Only non-network functions of the device can be used. On the settings screen, select Offline mode. Data Usage Monitor your data usage and set up data usage restrictions. On the settings screen, select Use. data. Mobile data: Set the device to use data transmission over any mobile network. Mobile data restriction: Set the mobile data restriction settings. Press the button to access additional options. Limit background data: Disable background sync when using a mobile network. Show Wi-Fi usage: View your Wi-Fi data usage. Mobile hotspots: Select mobile hotspots to prevent them from being used by background applications. 112 Settings Geodata Change location restrictions settings. On the Settings screen, touch Location and toggle the Location toggle to enable this feature. Mode: Select how you receive your location data. Recent location requests: View a list of applications that request information about your current location and battery usage. Location: View a list of location services used on the device. My Places: Set the profiles that apply to specified locations when using the GPS, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth function to find the user's current location. SIM card manager (dual SIM models) Activate the SIM or USIM cards you are using and set up each one. On the Settings screen, tap SIM card manager. Voice call: Select a SIM or USIM card for voice calls. Video call: Select a SIM or USIM card for making video calls. Data network: Select a SIM or USIM card for data connection. Active mode: Allow incoming calls from another SIM or USIM card during a call. If this feature is enabled, call forwarding charges may apply depending on the region or service provider. 113 NFC settings and sharing (NFC-enabled models) Settings for connecting to other devices. On the settings screen, select NFC and sharing. NFC To read or send information from NFC tags, enable this function. Android Beam: Turning on Android Beam allows you to send data such as web pages and contacts to NFC-enabled devices. S Beam: Turn on the S Beam function to transfer data such as videos, images, and documents to devices that support NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. Touch payment: Select the default mobile payment application. The list of payment services may not include all available payment applications. Nearby devices Change the content sharing settings when your device connects to nearby devices. All devices must support Wi-Fi, or they must be connected to the same access point. Device Name: View the name of the media server for your device. Content to share: Turn on sharing content with other devices on your device. Allowed Devices: View a list of devices that can access your device. Denied Devices: View a list of devices that are denied access to your device. Download to: Select a storage location for saving media files. Receiving files from other devices: Turn on the feature on your device that allows you to accept downloads from other devices. Printing Configure the settings for the printer plug-ins installed on this machine. To print files, you can search for available printers or add a printer manually. Screen Mirroring Activate screen mirroring and share screen content with other devices. 114 Settings Other networks Set network management options. On the settings screen, select Other networks. Default messaging app Select the default messaging app. Mobile networks Mobile data: Set the device to use data transmission over any mobile network. Data roaming: Use your device to use data on any mobile networks while roaming. Access points: Set an access point (APN). SIM 1 network mode / SIM 2 network mode (dual SIM models): Select the network type. Network mode (single SIM models): Select the type of network. Network operators: Search for available networks and manually register a network. VPN Set up and connect to virtual private networks (VPNs). Device Sounds and Notifications Change the sound settings for your device. On the Settings screen, tap Sounds & notifications. Sound Mode: Select the sound mode or silent mode. Vibration Intensity: Adjust the vibration intensity. Vibrate on call: Select whether to vibrate and ring at the same time for incoming calls. Ringtone (dual SIM models): – – Ringtones: Add or select a ringtone for incoming calls. – – Notifications: Select a ringtone for events such as incoming messages and missed calls. 115 Settings Ringtones (Single SIM models): Add or select a ringtone for incoming calls. Vibrate: Add or select a vibration mode. Notification ringtone (single SIM models): Select a ringtone for events such as incoming messages and missed calls. Screen & Wallpaper Change display settings. On the Settings screen, tap Screen & wallpaper. Brightness: Set the brightness of the display. Wallpaper: – – Home Screen: Select a background image for the Home screen. – – Lock screen: Select a background image for the lock screen. – – Home screen and lock screen: Select a background image for the home screen and lock screen. – – S View Window: Change the wallpaper on the S View window screen. Font: – – Font Style: Change the font style for the displayed text. – – Font Size: Change the font size. One-handed operation: Activate the transition to one-handed operation mode. Screen rotation: Automatically change orientation when you rotate your device. Smart Turn Off: Prevent the display backlight from turning off when the user is looking at it. Screen timeout: Set the amount of time after which the display backlight turns off. 116 Settings Screen mode: – – Adaptive display: Optimizes the display image according to display settings. – – AMOLED Movie: Use the device in low light, such as in a dark room. – – Photo AMOLED: This mode makes display colors appear more natural. – – Basic: Use the device in normal lighting conditions. Auto config. Screen Brightness: Activate the power saving mode by adjusting the screen brightness. Screen saver: Activate the screen saver while the device is charging. Key backlighting: Set the length of time that the backlighting of the recently used apps button and the back button remain on. Lock screen Change the lock screen settings. On the Settings screen, tap Lock screen. Screen lock: Change the screen lock method. The following options may vary depending on the selected screen lock feature. Dual Clock: Displays dual clock. Clock Size: Change the clock size. Show Date: Display the date along with the clock. Camera shortcut: Display a camera shortcut on the lock screen. This feature may not be available depending on the region or service provider. Owner Details: User input to display with the watch. Effect on unlock: Select a visual effect when the screen is unlocked. Show weather forecast: Set to display weather information on the lock screen. Help text: Display help text on the lock screen. 117 Settings Themes Change the theme for the home screen, apps screen, and lock screen. On the settings screen, tap Themes. Multiple windows Switches to the "Multiple windows" mode. On the Settings screen, select Multiple windows and toggle the Multiple windows switch to enable this feature. Open in another window: Set the device to activate the Multiple windows feature when you open files from My Files or Videos. The device also launches this feature when you view attachments in messages. Notification panel Select items for the notification panel. On the Settings screen, tap Notification panel. Motions and gestures Activate motion detection and change motion detection settings. On the Settings screen, tap Motions & gestures. Smart notifications: Set to notify you of missed calls or new messages when you pick up your device. Mute: Set the device to mute incoming calls and alarms by turning the device face down or by swiping the palm of your hand. Palm swipe to capture: Function to capture a screen when you swipe left or right over the display. 118 Settings My settings Accounts Add email or social networking accounts. On the settings screen, tap Accounts. Cloud storage Change the data and file sync settings for your Samsung account or Dropbox cloud storage. On the settings screen, tap Cloud storage. Backup & Reset Change settings to manage settings and data. On the settings screen, tap Backup and reset. Data Archiving: Sets up the backup of application settings and data on the Google server. Backup account: Create or change a Google backup account. AutoRecovery: Sets up the recovery of application settings and data when they are reinstalled. Reset Data: Reset all settings to factory defaults and delete all data. Simple mode Switch to simple operation mode. On the settings screen, select Easy Mode. Standard Mode: Activate standard mode. Easy Mode: Changes to Easy Mode. Home Mode Applications: Select the applications to which you want to apply the simplified interface. 119 Settings Accessibility Use this feature to improve the accessibility of your device. On the Settings screen, tap Accessibility. Vision: Adapt settings to make the device more accessible to users with visual impairments. – – TalkBack: Activate the TalkBack app for voice feedback. To view help information for using this feature, select SETTINGS → Explore by touch tutorial. – – Dark screen: You can set the device to keep the screen off to protect the contents of your device. – – Fast keyboard entry: You can set your device to enter characters as soon as you release the desired key on the keyboard. T9 mode: Activate T9 mode to display word suggestions as you type and suggestions. Word suggestion options can be customized. AutoCorrect: Use the device to correct spelling and misspellings of words by pressing a space or punctuation mark. 122 Settings My hotkeys: Assign frequently used texts to number keys. You can press and hold a number key to paste pre-typed text. Auto Caps: Set to automatically capitalize a letter after punctuation marks such as periods and question or exclamation marks. Spaces automatically: Set whether to automatically enter a space between words. Automatic punctuation: Insert a period by double-tapping the space bar. Conducted Swipe to Keys: – – No: Disables the ability to swipe across the keyboard. – – Continuous typing: Enter text by sliding your fingers across the keyboard. – – Cursor control: Activate the smart keyboard navigation function to move the cursor by swiping the keyboard. Default Language: View the selected default language for the text-to-speech feature. 123 Settings Notification Reader Here you can set up spoken notifications for incoming calls, messages or events. Pointer Speed Adjust the speed of the device's mouse or touchpad pointer. Date and time Change the time and date display settings. On the settings screen, select Date and time. If the battery is completely discharged or removed from the device, the date and time settings will be reset. Auto Time Detection: Automatically update the date and time as you navigate through time zones. Set Date: Manually set the current date. Set Time: Manually set the current time. Autodetect hour. Zones: Get network time settings when you move to a different time zone. Select Time Zone: Set your home time zone. 24-Hour Format: Displays the time in 24-hour format. Date Format: Select the date format. Security Assistant Turn on emergency mode and set up basic contacts and messages. For more information, see Emergency mode. On the Settings screen, select Security Assistant. Emergency mode: Set the device to use emergency mode with reduced battery consumption by using only basic functions such as calls. SOS Message: Send help requests by pressing the power button three times quickly. Manage Primary Contacts: Select and change recipients for assistance messages. 124 Settings Accessories Change settings for accessories. On the settings screen, select Accessories. Auto Unlock: Automatically unlock your device when you open the cover. This feature can only be used for some screen lock methods. S View window wallpaper: Change the wallpaper on the S View window screen. Select the desired items: Customize the information displayed on the screen of the S View window. Power Saver Activate power saver mode and change power saver mode settings. For more information, see Power save feature. On the settings screen, tap Energy Saver. Power Saver: Activate power saver mode and change power saver mode settings. Extreme Power Saving: Increases standby time and reduces battery consumption by using a simplified interface and restricting access to certain applications. The maximum standby time is the amount of time left before the battery runs out (when the device is not in use). The waiting time depends on the settings of the device and the environment in which it is used. Battery Percentage: Turn on a feature on your device that will display information about the remaining battery charge on the screen. Memory View information about the device memory and external memory card, and format the memory card. On the settings screen, select Storage. After formatting the memory card, the data will be permanently deleted. The actual amount of available internal memory is less than stated, since some of the memory is reserved for the operating system and pre-installed applications. The available capacity may change after the device is updated. 125 Settings Security Change the security settings for your device and SIM or USIM card. On the settings screen, select Security. Device administrators: View the administrative applications installed on the device. You can allow device administrators to apply new policies to devices. Unknown sources: Permission to install applications from unknown sources. Encrypt device: Set a password to encrypt data stored on the device. The password will need to be entered each time the device is turned on. Since data encryption can take more than an hour, it is recommended to fully charge the battery before starting it. Encrypt SD memory card: Encrypt files on the memory card. If you enable this feature and reset the device to factory settings, you will not be able to read encrypted files. Disable this feature before resetting your device. Remote control: Activate the Internet remote control feature for a lost or stolen device. To use this feature, you must sign in to your Samsung account. Alert About switching SIM cards: Enable or disable the Find My Phone feature, which allows you to locate a lost or stolen device. Go to website: Access the Find My Phone website (findmymobile.samsung.com). You can find the location of a stolen or lost device on the Find My Phone website. Activation Lock: Prompt for Samsung account information after resetting the device to prevent other users from activating the device. SIM card lock: – – SIM card lock: Activate or deactivate the PIN code requirement when the device is turned on. – – Change SIM PIN: Change the PIN required to access data on the SIM or USIM card. Show passwords: You can set your device to show your password as you type it. Update Security Policy: Check for and download security updates. 126 Settings Send security reports: Set to automatically send security reports to Samsung. Storage type: Specify the storage type for information about account files. Trusted Credentials: Use certificates and identities to securely work with various applications. Install from Memory: Install encrypted certificates from a USB flash drive. Remove Credentials: Remove identity content from the device and reset the password. Help View help to learn how to use your device and applications, and to configure important settings. On the settings screen, select Help. About device Access device information, change device name, and update device software. On the settings screen, tap About device. Applications Application Manager View and manage applications installed on your device. On the Settings screen, tap Application manager. Default Applications Select default settings for applications. On the settings screen, tap Accessories. Application settings Adapt settings for each application. On the settings screen, tap Application settings. 127 Troubleshooting Before contacting Samsung Service Center, try the following troubleshooting methods. Some problems may not occur on your device. When you turn on the device or while using it, you will be prompted to enter one of the following codes: Password: If the device lock is enabled, you must enter the device password. PIN code: When you turn on your device for the first time, or when you turn on the PIN code request after you turn on the device, you must enter the PIN code that came with your SIM or USIM card. This feature can be disabled in the SIM card lock menu. PUK code: Usually, the SIM or USIM card is blocked after several attempts to enter the wrong PIN code. In this case, you must enter the PUK code provided by your service provider. PIN2 code: When accessing a menu that requires a PIN2 code, enter the PIN2 code provided with the SIM or USIM card. For more information, contact your service provider. The device displays network or service error messages In some places, the network signal is so weak that you cannot use the device's network functions. Move to a place where the signal is more stable. Error messages may appear during the move. Some features require activation in order to use them. For more information, contact your service provider. The device does not turn on The device will not turn on if the battery is completely discharged. Fully charge the battery before turning on the device. 128 Troubleshooting The touch screen responds slowly or incorrectly to touch If you attach a protective film or optional accessories to the touch screen, it may not work properly. The touch screen may not work properly in the following situations: You are wearing gloves, touching the screen with dirty hands, sharp objects, or fingertips. Excessive humidity and liquid intrusion may cause the touch screen to malfunction. Turn the device off and on again to resolve temporary software issues. Make sure your device has the latest software version. If the touch screen is scratched or damaged, contact a Samsung Service Center. Device freezes or critical errors occur If the device freezes, you need to close applications or restart the device. If your device freezes and becomes unresponsive, press and hold the power button for more than 7 seconds to restart it. If the problem persists, reset your device. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Backup and reset → Factory data reset → RESET DEVICE → ERASE ALL. Before resetting your device, it is recommended that you back up any important data stored in your device memory. If the problem persists, contact a Samsung service center. Cannot make or receive a call Make sure you are using the correct cellular network. Check if the call barring feature is enabled for the phone number you are dialing. Check if the call barring feature is enabled for the incoming phone number. The interlocutors cannot hear me during a conversation Check if the holes of the built-in microphone are blocked by any foreign objects. Bring the microphone closer to your mouth. If you are using a headset, check that it is properly connected to the device. 129 Troubleshooting Echoes during a call Adjust the device's volume using the volume button, or move to another location. Cellular signal or Internet connection drops out frequently, or sound quality becomes poor Make sure that the built-in antenna area of your device is not obstructed by objects. In some areas, the network signal is so weak that you may not be able to use the device's network functions. Connection problems may be due to the service provider's base station. Move to a place where the signal is more stable. When using the device while driving, wireless network services may be disabled due to problems with the service provider's network. Battery icon is empty The battery is empty. Charge the battery. The battery does not charge (when using approved Samsung chargers) Make sure the charger is connected properly. Contact a Samsung Service Center to replace the battery. The battery is draining faster than usual The effective charge of the battery may decrease if the ambient temperature is too low or too high. The battery drains faster when you use the messaging function or run some applications, such as games or a web browser. The battery is a consumable item and its effective charge will decrease over time. 130 Troubleshooting The device heats up If you use applications that consume a lot of power for a long time, the device may become warm. This is normal and does not affect the performance or life of the device. Error messages appear when you turn on the camera To use the camera, your device must have enough free space and the battery must be fully charged. If error messages appear when you turn on the camera, do the following: Charge the battery. Free up space on your device by copying files to your computer or deleting them. Reboot your device. If this does not resolve the issue with the Camera app, contact a Samsung Service Center. Image quality is lower than preview Image quality may vary depending on the environment and shooting methods. When taking pictures in dark places, at night, or indoors, the image may be blurred or noise may appear. Error messages appear when you try to open a media file If you receive error messages or your device cannot play media files, try the following: Free up space on your device's memory by copying the files to your computer or deleting them. Make sure the music file is not DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected. If the file is DRM-protected, you can listen to it only if you have the appropriate key or a playback license. Make sure the file formats are supported by the device. If file formats such as DivX or AC3 are not supported, install a dedicated application that supports them. To check the file formats compatible with your device, go to www.samsung.com. 131 Troubleshooting Your device can play back all the pictures and videos you take with it. Pictures and videos taken with other devices may not be played back. Your device supports media files approved by your network service provider or value-added service provider. Some Internet content, such as ringtones, videos, or wallpapers, may not play correctly. Cannot find Bluetooth device Make sure Bluetooth wireless technology is enabled on your device. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the device you want to connect to. Make sure the Bluetooth devices are within the Bluetooth range (10m). If this does not resolve the issue, contact a Samsung Service Center. Cannot connect my device to my computer Make sure the USB cable you are using is compatible with your device. Make sure your computer has the required driver and updates installed. If you are using Windows XP, make sure that you have Service Pack 3 or later installed on your computer. Make sure you have Samsung Kies or Windows Media Player version 10 or later installed on your computer. The device cannot determine my current location In some places, such as indoors, there may be interference in the GPS signal path. In such situations, use the Wi-Fi or mobile network to determine your location. 132 Troubleshooting Data stored on the device is lost Regularly back up all important data stored in the device's memory. Otherwise, it will be impossible to recover lost or corrupted data. Samsung is not responsible for the loss of data stored in the device's memory. There is a slight amount of play around the outside of the device case. This play inevitably occurs during the manufacture of the case and may result in slight vibration or movement of parts of the device.
