What filter for a geyser. How to clean a geyser: ways available for self-implementation. Why it is worth installing a filter for the boiler - is it really necessary

Interruptions with hot water and preventive shutdown have led to the fact that many install water heaters in the apartment. It turned out that heating water is cheaper than using the services of public utilities. Despite this, there are also disadvantages - the equipment is prone to breakdowns, which often occur due to poor-quality water. Will a filter for the boiler help, do I need to install it? You will find the answer in our article.

The quality of tap water directly affects the life of the heater, especially if it is constantly in use. Water must be "soft" and meet the following requirements:

  • Transparency.
  • No unpleasant odors.
  • The minimum content of metal salts, hydrogen sulfide.
  • Absence of bacteria.

It is not easy to achieve such indicators. Often, water contains heavy salts of magnesium and calcium: settling on the elements of the boiler, they reduce thermal conductivity. As a result:

  • A large amount of electricity is consumed.
  • The water takes a long time to heat up.
  • The content becomes cloudy.

When hard water is heated, scale is produced - at first a small deposit. If it is not removed at this stage, then the heating element is covered with limestone.

If you are not configured to buy a filter or you do not have the opportunity, you must carry out the following procedures:

  • Regular inspection of the internal elements of the tank.
  • Wall and heating element cleaning.
  • Drain water from tank.
  • Dismantle the heating element by disassembling the fasteners.
  • Remove the housing cover and clean the walls from plaque, clean the heater.

In this case, there is a risk of damage to one of the parts. Isn't it easier to improve water quality than to endure such consequences?

Types of filters and principle of operation

There are three groups according to the type of cleaning:

  • Deep. They are mounted up to the water meter and retain small debris: dirt, sand, pieces of rust. The item needs to be cleaned periodically.
  • Thin. They purify water from harmful impurities. They can be woven and mineral. When the substance darkens, the user understands that it is time to replace the cartridge.
  • Biological. These devices are multi-stage. They perform several functions at the same time: it cleans from dirt, salts, chlorine, viruses and bacteria.

Filters are also distinguished by the principle of cleaning. Most often used:

  • Magnetic. Creates a magnetic field, under the influence of which calcium molecules do not settle on surfaces, but disintegrate and are washed away. Thus, the product softens the water. It can be installed both near the boiler, fastened to the nut, and cut into the pipeline. Great for a gas boiler if you have one.
  • Polyphosphate. Inside the plastic flask contains salt - polyphosphate. It dissolves in water depending on the strength of the flow. Forming a protective film, polyphosphate does not allow deposits to settle. Salts of calcium and magnesium combine into a structure that cannot become scale. There are two types of devices: in some you need to periodically add salt, and in others you need to insert new cartridges.

There are also filters that are filled with resin inside. Water, passing through it, changes the structure.

Which filter is better to choose

To make it easier for you, we have compiled a selection of filters that users have responded well to. Now you can choose which product to supply for anti-calc.

Svod-AS

The reagent contained in the flask is called "food". It does not allow scale to crystallize, so it does not settle on surfaces. In addition, the action of the reagent allows you to remove already deposited plaque.

Suitable for hardness level: up to 34.

Peculiarities:

  • Works at a temperature of 105 degrees.
  • Water after cleaning becomes potable, corresponds to GOST. Can be safely used for domestic purposes.
  • Easy to install.
  • Replacing the filler is easy.

For example, the Svod-AS 10/250 model is designed for 42,000 liters. Connects to ½" thread. Usually installed on a tee.

Model Vault 5/100 has a resource of 15,000 liters, and the pipe diameter is ¾ inch.

Geyser 1 PF

Installed in front of the water heater.

Works on the basis of polyphosphate salt. Dissolving in water, polyphosphate binds impurity ions so that they do not precipitate. The transparent flask allows you to monitor the amount of salt inside.

It is used to soften water for technical purposes. Productivity is 6 liters per minute. The temperature of the liquid that passes through the filter is 40 degrees. The salt filter is connected to a ½ inch thread.

Our water Ecozon 200

A similar model can be put in the country or in the apartment. The reagent inside cleans up small debris: sand, debris. It also neutralizes salt particles, so they do not create lime deposits. Can be used for boilers, boilers, and.

Placed on the main line, attached to the thread ¾. The resource is 20,000 liters. The operating temperature does not exceed +30 degrees. Does not contain phosphates, therefore it is completely safe for the consumer.

Aquarus 5B

Eco-filter based on new technologies. It is connected to the highway, the flow passes through it and is saturated with the active substance. Reduces the amount of chlorine compounds and heavy impurities. The working resource is 17,000 liters. Passing temperature is +5-38 degrees.

Cristal Policompact

They clean the contents of wells and water pipes from silt, sand, chlorine, metals, bacteria. However, water after purification can only be used for technical purposes. The composition changes every six months, and it is not necessary to dismantle the device. Throughput - 3 500 l/h. The temperature is 35 degrees.

What else is useful to install a filter device:

  • Cleans pipes from already deposited scale.
  • Provides long-term operation of shut-off valves.

Installation is carried out in front of the water heater, for this a tee with a shut-off valve crashes into the pipe. A filter is connected to one of the outputs. Salt is replaced as soon as it darkens or runs out.

Now you can make the right choice. Take care of your equipment and the health of your loved ones, equip the pipeline with cleaning elements. Watch the video

Today, water heaters can be seen in many apartments. They provide residents with hot water, thereby increasing the comfort of living and allowing them not to depend on a centralized water supply. For some people, for example, for owners of a private house or summer cottage, it is impossible to get hot water without buying a boiler or other water heating device. But in order for such a device to work for a long time without breakdowns, before installing it, you should take care of the presence of filters that will purify the water entering the device.

Why are they used for water treatment?

The need to use filters in all devices in which water is heated is associated with the qualitative composition of the liquid in water supply networks. First of all, this refers to the hardness of water, which is affected by the content of compounds such as magnesium and calcium salts. Filters also help to remove various contaminants from the water, including pathogenic bacteria, viruses and various foreign inclusions.

Do they protect against limescale?

Note that the installation of a filter through which water passes, which as a result enters the water heater tank, really helps to protect the device from untimely wear of its parts due to scale deposits. The scale that appeared on the internal elements of the heaters affects the thermal conductivity and efficiency of the devices. Due to the scale layer, the heating period of the water is extended, which leads to increased energy consumption.

Scale also increases the risk of the heating element burnout (if an electric water heater is installed) and gives the water an unpleasant odor and taste.

Scale formation stages

Scale is formed due to heating of hard water. At the first stage of its formation, it looks like a light limescale coating. It slightly interferes with the conduction of heat, so the water in the device starts to heat up longer.

If you do not clean the scale at this stage, the layer of plaque will increase and become quite dense. This will affect fuel consumption and water heating time. Sometimes at this stage, water begins to emerge from the boiler, in which pieces of scale are present. Seeing them, cleaning the device should be done urgently.

If for some reason you skipped or ignored the previous step, the scale will continue to form limestone. At this third stage, the heating element will be completely covered by such a stone, so it will not only stop transferring heat to the water in the tank, but will also overheat, causing it to burn out.

Kinds

In order to purify the water entering the heating device, it is possible to install a filter in front of the equipment for:

  • Deep cleaning. It is designed to capture particles of sand, rust and other small debris. The installation site of such a filter is the starting point of the water supply, up to the water meter. Such a filter should be washed regularly once a quarter.
  • Fine cleaning. Its function is to remove salts, chlorine and other substances from water. Such a filter can be single-functional (just to purify water from harmful impurities) or multi-functional (in such a filter, ion exchange occurs with the precipitation of harmful compounds). For fine cleaning, a woven filter can be used (it has a fabric winding, the darkening of which signals the need to replace the cartridge) or a mineral filter (there is a mineral crumb inside such a filter, by the darkening of which it is understood that it is time to change the cartridge).
  • biological treatment. It is one of the varieties of filters that perform fine cleaning. Its installation is recommended when water is supplied to the water heater from a well. Such a filter is a multi-stage system in which mechanical cleaning is carried out sequentially, chlorine is removed (in a carbon cartridge), fine cleaning is performed, salts of iron and heavy metals are removed, as well as viruses, bacteria and odors.

Depending on the cleaning mechanism, the following types of filters can be installed in front of the water heater.

It does a good job of reducing the hardness of the water entering the boiler and does not need to replace the cartridges. This filter is mounted at a distance of 1.5 meters from the heater or further. For installation, a special connecting nut is used.

Some filters can be installed directly into the pipeline to increase the efficiency of water filtration. The operation of such a filter is based on the creation of a magnetic field that changes the ionic ratio of salts in water. As a result, a safe insoluble precipitate is formed from the salts.

Polyphosphate filter

Such a device contains food polyphosphates, which are dosed into the water, taking into account the flow of water. Saturation of water with sodium polyphosphate forms a film that prevents scale settling. Such a filter is inexpensive and is presented in a large assortment.

Flushing the instrument before installing filters

If the water heating device has been operating for a long time without filtering the water entering it, one of the steps in installing filters should be flushing its system using special products.

Such products are highly effective non-abrasive liquids that do not harm the parts of water heaters. They are sold complete with flushing systems that are connected directly to the heat exchanger. After heating the reagent to the required temperature, the installation switches on the circulation mode and waits until the deposits dissolve. After that, the reagent is drained, the heat exchanger is washed and the unit is disconnected from the water heater.

If the house has a gas water heater, one day there will be a question about its maintenance. The heat exchanger of such a device is gradually overgrown with lime deposits, and particles of soot and soot are deposited on the burner. It's best to figure out how to keep your equipment in good condition right away so it doesn't fail prematurely.

We will tell you how to clean the geyser with your own hands, if calling a representative of the gas supply service is optional. The article presented by us describes how to remove carbon deposits and other combustion products from important working bodies of a flowing water heater. Advice is given to prevent the formation of dangerous deposits.

A gas water heater is a relatively simple device for heating water. Above is a heat exchanger connected to the plumbing system. Under it there is a burner, which is connected to a gas pipe.

In all modern models, the ignition of the burner is automated; only very old or faulty models are manually ignited. It is better to repair the latter so as not to risk the health of households and the integrity of property.

The design is hidden by a protective casing, on the front panel of which the control unit is usually located. It regulates the maximum temperature of water heating, the amount of gas and other indicators of the device. On top there is a cap and a chimney pipe through which combustion products are removed.

When water is turned on in the house, the burner automatically turns on, the gas heats the water to the required temperature. Auto-ignition is configured in such a way that the column turns on only with a sufficiently high water pressure in the system. Another important indicator is the presence of good traction.

Before starting work on cleaning a household geyser, you need to get acquainted with the device device in order to properly disassemble it

The process of heating water is accompanied by the precipitation of hard sediment, which gradually accumulates inside the heat exchanger. The tubes become clogged with deposits, as a result, the quality of heating deteriorates, and the work becomes insufficiently efficient.

Regular cleaning of the column will help to avoid such problems. In addition to scale, other contaminants can collect inside the device, it all depends on the quality of the water.

A household gas water heater is not particularly complicated: water moves through the heat exchanger pipe, it is heated by a burner, ignition turns on automatically

The following signs indicate that it is time to clean the column:

  • the pressure from a hot water tap is much weaker than a jet from a cold tap;
  • the pressure is good, but almost immediately after turning on the column goes out;
  • the device generally stopped turning on regardless of the pressure;
  • there is insufficient heating of the flow compared to the previous state;
  • the water heats up to the right temperature, but too slowly.

Some malfunctions can also be observed if the stopcock, which is installed at the inlet to the column, breaks down. It does not hurt to check it first, and only then proceed with the cleaning.

Descaling procedure

To flush the heat exchanger with a conventional one, you must first find the valves that shut off the flow of gas and water to the device, and then turn them.

To disassemble the column, you will need the usual tools that any experienced craftsman has at his disposal:

  • adjustable and pipe wrench;
  • straight and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • paronite gaskets;
  • a hose with a length of at least half a meter;
  • metal clamp to fix this hose.

The hose is connected to the outlet of the heat exchanger and lowered into the sink so that the waste water with impurities can be drained into the sewer. If this is not possible, you will also have to stock up on a large enough container to drain the water. Remove the protective cover from the column. Be careful not to break the control panel.

To clean the heat exchanger from scale, it is usually dismantled, and then reinstalled, sealing the threaded connections

Now you need to remove the water filter, which is usually fixed with a nut. The filter should then be washed and reinstalled. If the deposits are found to be too complex, it is recommended to use chemical cleaners to remove contaminants from the mesh. Filter damage may be detected during the flushing process. In this case, it is better to replace it.

Now you need to disconnect the heat exchanger from the water pipes, usually in these places a conventional threaded connection is used, which should simply be unscrewed. The heat exchanger is removed from the hinges and turned over. Some craftsmen advise putting it in a large enough container for cleaning so that aggressive chemicals do not leak onto the floor.

To thoroughly rinse the heat exchanger, it can be placed in a spacious container with a cleaning agent. Processing time depends on the instructions on the package.

As a cleaner, you can use suitable products, for example, “Antinakipin”. The usual 9% vinegar solution and other household formulations are also suitable. You can make a solution of citric acid: 100 g per liter of water.

Some people have had positive experiences with descaling drinks like Pepsi-Cola or Sprite, which contain phosphoric acid. But you should not use vinegar essence for these purposes, it can corrode the walls of pipes, you will have to carry out serious repairs.

The heat exchanger is turned over and the cleaner is poured into it using a rubber pear or a large syringe. Usually you need at least 500 ml of the substance, but not more than a liter. After that, vinegar or citric acid is left inside for about a quarter of an hour. When using industrial cleaners, it is recommended to follow the instructions.

Remove the protective cover from the geyser carefully so as not to damage the electronic control panel and other elements of the device

At the end of cleaning, the solution is drained, and the pipes are washed from accumulated dirt. To do this, the inlet of the heat exchanger is again connected to the water supply, and a container is placed at the outlet to collect dirty water.

Rinsing is carried out until a clean stream appears. In the presence of serious contamination, a single cleaning procedure may not be enough, it will have to be repeated again using a fresh portion of the cleaner.

Upon completion of the work, it is necessary to assemble the column in the reverse order. The heat exchanger is connected to the water supply. In this case, threaded connections should be sealed and treated with graphite grease. All gaskets present at the installation sites must be immediately replaced with new ones.

Now it is necessary to install the washed coarse filter in place, put the casing on the device and again supply gas and water to the column by unscrewing the corresponding valves. It remains to perform a control start-up of water to make sure that the column is working properly.

Cleaning the heat exchanger without dismantling

There is also a way to clean the heat exchanger without completely dismantling it. To do this, you must first remove the casing from the device and disconnect the water supply pipe from the heat exchanger. The inlet copper tube of the coil should be slightly offset to make it easier to work.

"Antiscale" is considered a very effective and safe means for removing scale from a gas column heat exchanger, although other household products can be used.

A hose is put on the outlet pipe. Then you need to open the tap and drain some water, about a liter, to free the coil from the liquid. If it is possible to clarify the capacity of the heat exchanger in the technical data sheet, then it is recommended to drain exactly this amount of water from the system or a little more.

To clean the column in this way, it is better to take Antinakipin powder, which is diluted with hot water before use. It does not hurt to take care to protect the skin and eyes from accidental exposure to the composition, since it contains hydrochloric acid.

Now you need to insert a funnel into the inlet pipe and pour Antinakipin into the heat exchanger. It should be remembered that with a quick filling, a reaction may begin inside, which will lead to the expulsion of a dangerous solution in the opposite direction. Therefore, you need to fill the composition in small portions and a thin stream.

If a gas leak was detected during the cleaning of the column, you must immediately shut off the pipe and call the masters from the gas facilities

The heat exchanger filled with the solution should be left for about two hours. To speed up the cleaning process, you can turn on the igniter (it is not necessary to turn off the gas for this cleaning method). When the process is over, open the tap and drain the water from the column with the sludge dissolved in it.

If there is a lot of dirt coming out, and the jet shows good pressure, cleaning can be considered satisfactory. If not, you need to carry out the procedure again, but when using Antinakipin, such a need usually does not arise.

Removal of contaminants from combustion products

Soot, soot and other solid products of combustion, although formed in such devices in small quantities, can still cause serious damage.

If you need to clean this part of the device, you need to remember the manufacturer's instructions again, especially if the warranty period has not yet expired. Some manufacturers require that such work be carried out only by professional gasmen.

You can remove soot and soot from the surface of the heat exchanger using an ordinary hard brush, but you will need a metal wire to clean the nozzles

The easiest way to clean the column radiator from combustion products. To do this, turn off the gas and remove the protective cover from the device. After that, the surface of the element is treated with a conventional household vacuum cleaner.

If the gas in the column does not ignite, or burns unevenly and weakly, the nozzles may be clogged. To clean them from the accumulated layers of soot, use a thin wire or brush with metal bristles.

Of course, in this case, turn off the gas and remove the casing. Cleaning must be done carefully so as not to damage the elements of the device.

When the soot accumulates too quickly, it makes sense to think about the presence of other faults that provoke this situation. A common cause of this phenomenon is a leak at the junctions of the gas pipes inside the column.

The gas column burner consists of narrow nozzles. If they are clogged with soot, the gas will flow unevenly, the water will heat up more slowly.

The gap may be so small that it is not possible to detect a leak by smell. If you suspect a malfunction of this type, you need to apply a soapy solution to the joints, and then apply gas to the device.

If the solution begins to bubble, stop work, turn off the gas and immediately call an experienced gasman. Self-activity at this stage can be fatal.

The water pressure is normal, the soot is removed, but the column still does not turn on? It's time to check the traction. In modern models, there are usually special sensors that detect the absence of traction and do not allow the device to be turned on, blocking the gas supply to the ignition device.

To check, it is better to use strips of thin paper. The flame of a candle or lighter can be dangerous if the problem is due to a gas leak.

If soot particles and other products of combustion accumulate in the column too quickly, you need to find the fault that leads to this result.

Having found a weak traction, it is necessary to identify the cause of the situation that has arisen. It is usually enough to clean the chimney to restore normal operation of the appliance. If this does not help, it is worth consulting with a gas equipment engineer, perhaps there are flaws made during the installation of the chimney structure.

Prevention of scale formation

Hard water is not the only cause of scale build-up inside heat exchanger tubes. For its appearance, not only the salts contained in the water are needed, but also a high heating temperature. The stronger the gas burns, the more intense the solid precipitate inside the device. A temperature of 80 degrees or higher is considered critical.

In order for scale to accumulate inside the heat exchanger as slowly as possible, you need to correctly set the temperature settings on the control panel of the geyser

Obviously, such strong heating is not needed for domestic use. 40-42 degrees is enough for a shower, 45 degrees is enough to wash even the dirtiest dishes. An automatic washing machine will heat the water up to 95 degrees, if necessary, but the gas water heater does not participate in this process.

Therefore, if hot water constantly has to be diluted with cold water, it is worth reviewing the heating temperature. Some amateur craftsmen drill a gas column igniter. This is done in order to increase the rate of heating of the water flow.

In older models, such an alteration eliminates the need to kindle and tune the device every time it is turned on. Finally, a drilled igniter is needed so that the gas ignites even with a very weak pressure of the water flow.

In this case, a very dangerous situation can arise when a small amount of water in the heat exchanger boils and turns into a gaseous form. As a result, the pressure in the heat exchanger will rise sharply and simply break it.

When scale builds up inside the narrow tube of the heat exchanger, deposits are created that prevent efficient heating and normal water circulation. And the quality of the water supply will improve, and the devices will not suffer.

Any geyser needs periodic cleaning. If maintenance is done correctly, the appliance will work long and efficiently.

Today, in many apartments and country houses you can see water heaters, they help out during periods of scheduled hot water outages and in cases where it is not possible to get hot water in other ways.

The heating element of boilers, like other household appliances, needs to be protected from scale if the water is hard. Otherwise, it may fail ahead of schedule. Salts are deposited on the walls and tubes of household appliances.

Usage salt filters for boilers makes it possible to prevent the formation of scale and extend the service life.

Choice water filters for water heaters is not an easy task, so choosing a device for both domestic use and industrial use is not so easy. Let's take a look at this issue!

Why it is worth installing a filter for the boiler - is it really necessary

Understanding that your home has hard water is very simple even without special analysis. If after several days of operation, for example, an electric kettle, you notice the appearance of scale, then it's time for you to go buy a filter element.
Limescale, which is formed as a result of an increased content of dissolved salts in water, reduces the performance of the equipment, since the water heats up more slowly, its flow decreases. As a result, the boiler may even burn out. You have to overpay for utilities - electricity and water. Unpleasant tastes and odors may appear in water and food.

To protect all equipment in the house, coarse and fine filters are installed, which primarily trap mechanical impurities, but they cannot cope with hardness salts. In such a situation, experts recommend taking care of installing magnetic softeners.

They are mounted on the supply pipe to the boiler. They can also be installed directly into the pipeline, which makes the filtration process even more efficient.

The filter changes the ionic balance of salts, as a result, salts are not deposited, but fall into an insoluble precipitate, safe for both water heaters and humans.

The influence of a magnetic field allows solving an important problem without the use of chemistry and reagents - the fight against salt deposits. Once in such a device, calcium bicarbonate molecules break down to crystals that do not settle on the equipment, but are simply washed off into the sewer.

Another popular option for anti-scale filters is using polyphosphates. Polyphosphate salt, passing water through itself, saturates it with sodium polyphosphate, resulting in a film that prevents scale from settling.

These devices are characterized by low cost, a wide range, and require regular replenishment of the supply of polyphosphate salt.

The disadvantages include a short period of use - an average of about six months, the need to regularly check a sufficient amount of filler, and not all polyphosphate filters can be used for water heaters.

Not so long ago, filters appeared on the market in which ion-exchange resin acts as an active substance. It is safer than polyphosphates, completely decomposes when released into the environment, and effectively copes with salt deposits.

There are many companies that produce anti-scale filters. Let's consider some of them in detail.

Which filter to put in front of the boiler - water heater

  • Renowned Manufacturer filters Geyser offers customers antiscale filter for boilers Geyser 1PDF working on the basis of polyphosphate salt. Suitable for water treatment for domestic purposes - in boilers, dishwashers and washing machines. The case of the device is made of durable plastic, transparent, which allows you to control the level of filling with polyphosphate. Cannot be used for drinking water!
  • New generation filters include Russian-made anti-scale filter from TM "Aquarus". As a filler, a food-grade ion-exchange resin is used, consisting of safe chemical components.

Water, passing through such a filler, is released from the active substance, which causes the process of crystallization of magnesium and calcium ions. As a result, the scale ceases to fall on the surface of the walls and the heating element.

The filler after getting into the drains decomposes without residue, without harming the environment. The device is effective in purifying water with high hardness, helps to reduce the time of water heating by boilers, does not cause external noise and does not require the use of additional methods of protection against scale. The filter offers a large selection of cartridges, which are selected based on the characteristics of the operation of the device.

  • Deserves attention professional anti-scale filter SVOD-AS 250. Developed in Ukraine specifically to protect heating equipment from scale.

Prevents the deposition of salts on heating elements and valves, improves the quality of washing, eliminates heavy suspensions and metals.

After installing the device, most buyers note a decrease in the consumption of detergents, as well as savings on electricity up to 20%. The filler of this filter is recognized as hypoallergenic and completely safe for humans.

  • improving digestion,
  • removing stones from the body
  • increase in working capacity.

The popularity of gas water heaters is understandable. Having such a device, you can not worry about hot water supply and be sure that you will always have hot water. Remember the summer months when the hot water supply is cut off for several weeks! How many inconveniences are associated with this period, but it is the gas water heater that solves all the problems! If you have purchased such a desired device, then do not forget about its proper operation and regular cleaning.

Why you need to periodically clean the gas column

During operation, one way or another, combustion products remain in the gas column. They settle on parts of the device in the form of soot and interfere with the normal operation of the column. In addition, almost all such devices are prone to scale formation. It is for these reasons that regular cleaning of the column is necessary. The difficulty is that not everyone knows exactly how to carry out the necessary manipulations.

Most often, a specialist is called in to clean the column, but this is not at all necessary. It is enough to know a few nuances, do not neglect safety and the whole procedure is quite possible to carry out independently.

How to Know It's Time for a Cleanse

  • Frequent triggering of thermal sensors (this is due to the fact that the scale layer prevents the column from cooling).
  • The liquid circulates poorly (channels are forgotten by scale).
  • With outwardly normal operation, water heating takes much longer.
  • After a few minutes of operation, the column turns off (or does not turn on at all).

If at least one of these signs was noticed during the use of the device, then the column needs to be cleaned.

Before carrying out work, you need to prepare the following items:

  1. wrenches of different sizes (from 8 to 22),
  2. flat and shaped screwdrivers,
  3. brush (preferably metal)
  4. wire (copper or aluminum is suitable),

The whole cleaning process comes down to two equivalent elements: a water intake unit and a heat exchanger. Let's consider each of the stages in more detail.

Before starting any action, be sure to turn off the water and gas supply!

Works on cleaning the water intake unit

This element of the column is very important for the normal operation of the gas column. It is the water inlet that is “responsible” for the purity of the water supplied. On its branch pipe there is a special filter that prevents scale and corrosion products from entering the heat exchanger. Also in the water intake unit there is a membrane that provides automatic gas supply at the moment of stopping the water supply.

First you need to separate the water intake unit from the column body, this will greatly facilitate all subsequent work. Then, using a screwdriver, unscrew the fixing bolts and remove the housing cover (It is better to immediately remove all fasteners to the side so that nothing is lost during assembly).

The next step is to test the membrane. Ideally, it should be absolutely flat, without any concavities or deformations. If so, then you can leave it, otherwise it is better to replace the membrane.

“Specialists advise using a new type of membrane - made of silicone. Their service life is much longer!

When the membrane is installed, it is possible to reassemble.

VERY IMPORTANT! The tightening of the screws must be carried out according to the principle "each next against the previous"! This method will help to make a uniform tightening and avoid leaks!

Cleaning the heat exchange element

This procedure is a little more complicated than the work of removing dirt from the water intake. All actions can be laid down in four stages:

First you need to disconnect the pipes through which water enters and exits.

Very often, the fasteners on the nozzles are covered with scale. To make it easier to unscrew the nuts, you can apply WD-40 universal fluid to the joints. After a few minutes, when the scale has been neutralized, you can safely unscrew the nuts with the help of wrenches.

After that, liquid for descaling must be poured into the heat exchange element.

Among folk remedies, a solution of citric acid showed itself best. Firstly, it is safe, and secondly, it is quite inexpensive. Proportions: for 1 liter of water you need 200 grams of acid.

The poured solution should be kept inside for several hours (it is better to leave it overnight).

The heat exchanger housing also needs to be cleaned. To do this, it is recommended to dilute vinegar (9%) in water (proportions 1: 3). Never use hydrochloric acid. She reacts with metal causing the appearance of additional oxidation products.

After a few hours have passed, the citric acid solution can be drained.

Important ! It is NOT necessary to install the heat exchange element immediately afterwards. Scale products could still remain inside it and they must be removed. To do this, the heat exchanger must be flushed with a strong pressure of water!

After flushing, pipes can be installed.

It was mentioned above that all the work can be done independently. It is, but never disassemble the gas column assembly. It can only be cleaned.

The process of cleaning the gas part from soot is not very complicated; prepared wire is useful for this. A wire is pushed into the holes of the jets, thereby removing all the dirt and soot. When this operation is completed, it is important to check the column for possible gas leaks. The same principle applies here as when looking for a puncture on a wheel: a soapy solution is applied to the places of all joints and the absence / presence of bubbles will show if there is a leak. In the event that you notice bubbles, you need to call the gas service and call a specialist!
