Bad internet connection. Internet slows down. What to do to return him high speed

Why is the internet slow? There may be several reasons, but of the most common, this is too many cookies and cache. By doing a little cleaning of these data fragments, you will significantly speed up your work on the Internet!

A computer with a fast Internet connection is the main tool for those who work remotely or do their projects online. The speed of the Internet depends on the speed of work and the pleasure of doing business. But when everything hangs..

Why is the internet slow?

Since I bought a brand new long-awaited laptop, installed all the programs necessary for work on it, everything was fine. In addition to page loading speed. And I specifically chose a more powerful laptop based on fast internet. If something breaks in the computer, I first figure it out myself for a long time - or rather: not every time I call the master. But what did I not do.

Folders, programs - everything is loaded in the computer itself almost instantly. Windows Diagnostics says no problems found. The browser turned on and off a hundred times, changed settings, allowed the modem and the browser.

The same with antivirus. And the settings of the modem itself. I called the Beeline support service. Signed up with him. Corrected. And, of course, cookies - didn’t I clean them! After all this, he took it and rolled back the system.

The pages in the browser just “spun” for 10 minutes, and then Chrome announced that it had failed. It was especially hard to work in the admin panel. Write an article, click "Publish" - and twists .. What kind of blog promotion is there ..

Needless to say, it wasn't all that bad. At times he had enlightenment. The pages just flew. There was one oddity in all this: there was a high signal in the modem program - HSPDA. But somewhere in the chain, the modem-browser seemed to be holding something.

I called the master, asked why my Internet was working slowly and if it was possible to fix it somehow? He replied that this was the quality of the provider's work, and nothing could be done about it. The explanation is known. But why on my old faithful computer, which served me for eight years, the same modem, before Windows fell from old age, worked quite tolerably. Certainly faster than now.

The problem was solved unexpectedly. Once again, watching my blog page loading spinning, something inside pushed me to update the browser. I use Chrome and don't want to give it up, because it has all the convenient tools for working on the Internet. Updated. Overloaded. And everything began to fly.

Perhaps one of the reasons lies in the browser. Try updating the version. Sometimes this solves the problem. In Chrome, this is done like this: in the upper right corner there is an icon Setup and Management. You need to click the mouse and select in the drop-down box About the Google Chrome browser.

Click again and the browser will begin to determine if an update is required. Follow instructions. After downloading, you need to restart Chrome. Some plugins may fly off - in this case, they need to be reinstalled. All. As much as I love Chrome, it does have some drawbacks. But very comfortable...

Since we are talking about browsers, it would be appropriate to say that not all of them work at the same speed. When I had a speed of up to 120 kb / s, the opera showed all its "agility". I had to spit on all its amenities, demolish and install Google Chrome. The difference is very noticeable!

Another reason for the slow operation of the Internet may be the cache - it needs to be cleared. If you have a Chrome browser, then read about it in the article.

Today we will try to deal with one of the most mysterious and incomprehensible problems, when pages in a browser on a computer or laptop are loaded for a very long time and slowly. And if you think about it, the reason is immediately clear - slow Internet. When the Internet connection speed is very low, it is understandable that sites will load slowly. Especially heavy sites where there are a lot of images and other elements. But no, the problem with slow page loading occurs for users with a good connection speed. When checking the speed, the result is good, files and torrents are loaded quickly, and pages in the browser are not in a hurry to open at all.

According to my observations, the problem with site loading speed is observed in all browsers: Yandex.Browser, Google Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and, of course, in Internet Explorer.

The problem is ambiguous, since it is not clear how slowly sites open, through which browser, which specific sites, what kind of Internet the user has and what speed, how it works on another device, when the problem arose, etc. There are a lot of nuances. Which, if desired and necessary, you can describe in the comments to this article. And I will try to give you a more specific answer. Well, below in this article I will talk about the obvious and not very causes and solutions to this problem.

What to try and check first:

  • If the problem has just appeared, then restart your computer and router (if any).
  • Also, first of all, I advise. See download speed. If there, for example, is less than 1 Mbps, then it is understandable why sites load slowly. Although, here everything is very, very individual and ambiguous. Everyone has their own definition of "slow".
  • Try opening the sites with a different browser. For example, through standard Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer (they are usually not littered, since no one uses them).
  • Try to find out if the problem is in the browser, computer, router, or internet connection. There are many options for how to quickly find out all this. For example, try another browser. We check how sites open on another device through a router. You can connect the internet directly to your computer.

Another point: if you have an old and slow computer or laptop, then this may be the problem. He just can't do it.

Slow loading sites in the browser due to low internet speed

However, I decided to consider this option first. Since the connection speed directly affects the speed with which pages on the Internet will open. It is possible that for some reason the speed of your Internet connection has dropped significantly. For example, some problems with the provider, in your router, interference (if we are talking about a Wi-Fi network) etc.

You can check the connection speed at http://www.speedtest.net/ru/. I provided a link to more detailed instructions above. You can take measurements from different devices, and by connecting the Internet directly to a computer or laptop. No router if you have one.

For example, now I am writing this article just through a 3G modem (which is connected to a router, which in turn distributes the Internet to other devices) and this is my speed:

And what can I say, my sites open really slowly. Indeed, it could be even worse. But I think that even at 10 Mbps, pages in the browser should load instantly.

Basically, this problem is faced by users who connect to the Internet via 3G / 4G modems. The speed in 3G / 4G networks can be very good, but it depends very much on the workload of the base station and on the signal strength. If the modem or phone catches badly, then the speed will be low. I'm not talking about 2G networks (GPRS, EDGE), everything is very slow there.

Findings: if the connection speed is good, but there is a problem with the speed of loading sites, then see this article further. If the speed is low, then you need to solve this problem. Again, if you have the Internet through a 3G / 4G modem, then you can set it up for the best reception, raise it higher, buy an antenna. If you have a standard connection: cable - router, and the speed is low only over Wi-Fi, then see the article. If even with a direct connection of the cable to the computer, the speed during the test does not match the one promised by the provider, then you can safely call the support of your Internet provider and find out this issue.

What to do if pages open for a long time with good Internet speed

Next, we will consider solutions that can only help if you have a normal Internet connection speed. Well, let's say 3 Mbps (per download) and above. If, when you check, it shows, for example, 50 Mbps, and the sites are barely opening, then the solutions described below should help in solving this problem.

Some options:

  • Slow loading of sites due to overcrowded browser cache and cookies. Unnecessary extras. C drive full.
  • Viruses, malware.
  • Problems with network settings.
  • Slow DNS servers.
  • Extra programs that load the network and computer. Antiviruses.
  • Slow VPN Server (if you are using VPN)?

And now more 🙂

We clean the cache, browser cookies, check add-ons and free space on disk C

1 First, go to "My Computer", or simply "Computer" in Windows 10 and see if the local drive C is full. When it is full, the bar turns red. And if it is full, then it needs to be cleaned: delete, or transfer unnecessary files from the desktop and the Documents folder. Remove unnecessary programs, or clean it with CCleaner, which I will discuss below. 2 Next, you need to clear the cache and preferably more cookies (cookies) of the browser you use, and in which sites open slowly. If you have Opera, then you are in luck :), since I wrote detailed instructions:.

Important! If you only clear the cache, then nothing bad will happen. But, if you clean cookies, passwords, autofill form data, then most likely you will have to re-enter sites (enter passwords).

All Bruisers are pretty much the same. For example, in Google Chrome. You need to open the menu, "Additional tools" - "Delete browsing data". Next, select "Images and files in the cache" and "Cookies" and clear them. Do not forget to select the item "for all time". You can try clearing the cache first.

In almost any browser, you can open a window with clearing history by pressing the "Ctrl + Shift + Del" key combination. And then just select the items that need to be cleared.

3 Now in almost every browser (Opera, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Yandex Browser) you can install extensions (add-ons). And not infrequently, these extensions greatly slow down the browser. Especially, such as VPN, various Internet "accelerators", blockers, etc.

You need to check the list of installed extensions (add-ons) in your browser. Opera does it like this:

Disable unnecessary extensions. Or disable everything to check.

Also check if you have accidentally turned on the "Turbo" mode in your browser. (which not infrequently slows down rather than speeds up downloads), or .

4 To clean all browsers, the Windows system itself and the registry, or manage startup, you can use separate programs. I recommend CCleaner. Free (can be easily downloaded from the Internet), in Russian and simple.

First, select the items that need to be cleared, run "Analysis", and then clean the garbage found. I myself use this program. Just watch carefully. If you are not sure, then do not check the boxes. You can safely clean the "Internet cache".

Slow loading sites due to viruses

It will definitely not be superfluous to check your computer for viruses and other malicious programs. If you have an antivirus installed and it is updated, then run a system scan. You can also check your computer with antivirus utilities. For example: AVZ, Dr.Web CureIt!, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, Malwarebytes.

These are free utilities. They are not installed, but simply run and check your computer. Found threats can be removed.

Reset network settings

It is quite possible that the same viruses have made some of their own settings in the Windows network settings. And because of this, there were problems with the slow loading of pages on the Internet. In order not to look for these parameters manually, I advise you to do it much easier. Reset network settings to factory settings.

Depending on your Internet connection, after resetting the settings, you may need to reconfigure the connection to the provider, or connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Making a reset is very easy. I wrote separate articles on these topics:

  • Instructions for Windows 10:
  • Instructions for Windows 7, 8, 10:

In the command prompt as an administrator, it is enough to execute a few commands and restart the computer.

After this procedure, do not forget to restart your computer.

DNS servers can slow down the loading of sites in the browser

DNS is responsible for converting the site addresses we are used to (from letters) into IP addresses (from numbers). And if the server that is responsible for this conversion is slow, buggy, then sites can take a long time to load. As a rule, everyone uses the provider's DNS servers. But, you can change them to others.

Programs and antivirus

If you have some kind of antivirus installed, then try disabling it for a while. Or disable the firewall built into it. Most likely it checks every page you open in the browser and checks very slowly.

Next, as for the programs. I have programs like torrent clients, different programs for downloading from the Internet, downloading different movies, etc. There are also different programs for speeding up the Internet, optimizing Windows, etc. They usually always start with Windows and hide on the notification bar. Close all unnecessary ones, remove them from startup (you can use the same CCleaner program). There are many instructions on the Internet for managing startup in Windows. We have an article on a slightly different topic.

All unnecessary close, turn off, delete. Not only can all these programs slow down page loading, but they also take resources from the operating system and the computer runs slower.

Or maybe the problem is in the VPN (if it is installed)?

And the VPN server connection can be very slow. Especially if it's a free VPN. But even a paid service can very often slow down. Even if you used the Internet through a VPN, and everything worked well, the server through which you connect can fail at any time, or many users connect through it, and it simply cannot cope with the load. The download speed of sites through such a server will be very slow.

Decision: most often, in the program settings, or browser extensions, you can change the server (to another country). If this does not help, then disable the VPN completely. Disconnect and close the program. Disable the browser extension. After that, everything should open normally.

Afterword

I tried to consider all the reasons known to me at the moment, due to which there are problems with the speed of loading sites. I'm sure there are other solutions to this problem. If you know what else could be the matter, or solved this problem in another way, then tell us about it in the comments. I will gladly add useful information to the article, and everyone will say Thank you!

Of course, you can ask questions on the topic. I only have one request, in the description of your problem, write the results of checking the speed of your Internet connection. Or attach a screenshot to a comment (we have this option).

How long does it take for pages to load in the browser? Do not rush to sin on the slow Internet, because in 90% of cases the problem is on the user's side. If you also experienced this, it is worth spending 1 hour of your time to find out what is the reason and improve the speed of loading sites. Let's get started.

Reason #1: Full cache

Surely everyone has come across when a newly installed browser "flies", but after a few weeks it starts to fail and freeze, everything loads slowly and it is almost impossible to work. Why it happens?

When you use the Internet, all information about the sites you visited and your actions is saved. Over time, data takes up more and more space and slows down the browser.

Solution

Clearing all temporary files - cache, archive of visited sites and downloads, as well as cookies. The history can be opened through the control panel or using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H (History). Click "Clear History", select the options you want and confirm the action.

Reason #2: extensions and toolbars

Another option why pages take a long time to load is a large number of additional applications and toolbars built into the browser. In practice, almost no one uses them, that is, these add-ons simply take up space and consume traffic.

Solution

Go to the extensions menu and remove everything except the most necessary. First of all, you need to get rid of everything that ends with -toolbar, -bar, etc. We recommend leaving AdBlock, an intrusive ad blocker.

The same situation with plugins. To see them, enter about:plugins or "browser name:plugins" (for example, opera:plugins) in the address bar. What should be left?

  • native client;
  • Adobe Flash Player;
  • Google update;
  • java
  • Shockwave Flash;
  • QuickTime and VLC Web Plugin if you watch videos on different sites;
  • Adobe Acrobat and Chrome PDF Viewer if you frequently view PDF documents in your browser.

Everything else is deleted or disabled, after which you need to restart the program.

Please note: in some browsers (in particular, "Opera" sins with this), the same plug-in may appear several times in the list. In this case, you need to leave only the latest version.

Reason #3: lack of space on the system drive

It is extremely important that there is always at least 10% free space on drive C, and ideally several gigabytes. If it is full, the computer inevitably begins to "hang". Often the browser loads slowly for this very reason, the system simply does not have enough space to process all temporary files and operations.

Solution

If the hard drive is divided into sectors, transfer some of the information from drive C to another, for example D. Photos, music, videos and various documents can take up a lot of space, so you should start with them.

If there are no free disks, remove programs and files that you do not use. Alternatively, some documents can be transferred to cloud storage (for example, Google Drive or Yandex.Disk) or sent to a USB flash drive.

Reason #4: Antivirus checks pages for a long time

Modern programs scan the sites you visit in "live" mode. That is, first the antivirus analyzes the page you want to open, and only if everything is in order, gives permission to continue downloading and displaying information.

Solution

If pages in the browser take a long time to load, you should try temporarily disabling protection. Sometimes it helps. In this case, you will most likely have to set a lower level of protection in the settings or select a different antivirus.

Reason #5: Background Apps

Most users do not even pay attention to what programs and services are running in. However, it is they who can sort out a significant part of the traffic. One of the most powerful "vampires" is everyone's favorite torrent clients (as soon as you download the file, it starts to be distributed from your computer, which can seriously reduce the speed of the Internet).

Solution

Go to "Task Manager" > "Startup" and look at the list of applications that automatically start when you turn on your PC. It is advisable to disable everything except the system programs responsible for the operation of the speakers, touchpad, etc.

Reason #6: High HDD load

A fairly common reason for a slow browser. The fact is that information is written to the hard drive unevenly, that is, the beginning of a file may be at the edge of the disk, the other part is somewhere in the middle, and the end is not far from the beginning. This is called fragmentation. Why is she dangerous? Instead of quietly sliding, the head constantly "jumps" from side to side. In addition, your disk makes several times more revolutions, slowing down the entire system.

Solution

Defragment (forced ordering of the physical location of information on the hard drive). To do this, go to "Start" > "Accessories" > "System Tools" > "Disk Defragmenter". Run the program and wait for the data to be overwritten. As a result, not only the browser will start working faster, but the computer as a whole.

Reason #7: Browser Settings

Some modern browsers have built-in options that, on the one hand, make surfing the web more comfortable, and on the other, lead to the fact that pages in your browser take a long time to load. A striking example is the prediction of network actions in Google Chrome.

Solution

Open your browser settings and disable such features. For example, the prediction of actions is in the "Advanced settings" on the "Privacy" tab. If the problem persists, it is recommended to re-enable all functions.

Reason #8: Viruses

If the Internet takes a long time to load, the cause may be banal viruses - malicious programs that somehow got on your computer.

Solution

Scan your system for viruses and spyware. It is best to use several programs - the usual Kaspersky, AVAST, AVG, McAffee, etc.), as well as special scanner applications. The most popular are Dr.Web, Malwarebytes, HitmanPro and SpyHunter.

Tip: It's best to scan in Windows Safe Mode (with network driver support). To do this, when the computer boots up, immediately press the F8 key and select the appropriate item. After the scan is completed and the infected files are deleted, you must restart the PC again to return to normal mode.

Reason #8: Outdated Hardware

What to do if the browser is still loading slowly? If no attempts to "stir up" it are successful, most likely you just have a weak computer. Every year, websites use more and more sophisticated technologies that outdated technology can hardly cope with.

Solution

Of course, ideally, you should at least partially upgrade the hardware, for example, buy more powerful RAM. However, this possibility is not always available. In this case, you can try to install an older version of the browser, as a rule, they consume less resources (for example, Opera 10 "eats" 1.5 times more RAM than Opera 9). True, you have to come to terms with the fact that some sites are displayed incorrectly.

Useful programs

Finally, we will talk about several applications that will help you understand why pages in the browser take a long time to load and solve the problem.

  1. speedtest.net. Online service for analyzing the speed of the Internet connection - you just need to click the "Start test" button. If the connection speed is low and does not match your agreement with the provider, you need to deal with the company providing access.
  2. CCleaner. The most popular junk cleaner on PC. The application is automatically in the system, removes temporary files and memory dumps and fixes errors in the registry. Here you can also select programs to autoload.
  3. Active Speed. A special program designed for Allows you to quickly clear history and cache, find out the speed of the Internet and optimize your Internet connection. There are many useful features and "chips" in the settings. For example, there are additional features to improve the performance of online applications (useful if the game takes a long time to load).

For the stable and fast operation of the browser, it is extremely important to regularly clean the program itself and the PC. It is recommended to set the cleaning of history and cache, as well as defragmentation to automatic mode (the optimal frequency is 1 time per week).

In the last couple of years, the Internet has become an important part of the life of almost every person. Using the World Wide Web, we can find out the weather, the latest world news, download the necessary programs, play online games, etc. When the Internet is working well, doing the above things is very nice, but what if all of a sudden web pages start to load for a very long time, and online games slow down? You should immediately look for the answer to the question of why the Internet is slow. In this article, we will look at the causes of poor network performance.

Why is the internet slow. Options

1) It is important to remember that the Internet connection on the computer is used not only by the browser on which you browse the sites. If you have torrent trackers, email programs, Skype, etc. installed on your PC, Internet traffic may go to them. Also, do not forget that the computer likes to update programs and anti-virus systems automatically. Check if this reason is the answer to the question of why the Internet is slow.

2) If you are sure that only the browser uses the Internet connection, you should assume that the problem is in it. First, try updating your browser, if that doesn't work, uninstall it completely, and then download a new one from the official site. You can also try resetting your browser. Perhaps you accidentally changed something in the settings. First you need to check if there is a checkmark next to the "Proxy server" item. If it is, then try to remove it and look at the result. If it's not there, try installing it.

3) If the two previous points did not bring results, be sure to contact the provider. Perhaps the tariff plans have been changed or your account is running out of money. There are also providers who, after a certain number of downloaded gigabytes. If this is the problem, then you need to switch to an unlimited tariff or change the provider.

4) Another answer to the question of why Internet viruses are slow. Be sure to run a complete good antivirus. Malicious programs begin to clog the Internet channel, destroy applications and system files. If it so happened that the computer found a lot of viruses, first remove them. If there is no result, then there is only one way out, but the most effective one is reinstalling the system.

5) If you connect to the Internet through a Wi-Fi router, then the problem is that the wireless Internet settings are not configured correctly. To get it right through Wi-Fi, I recommend contacting a knowledgeable person or finding step-by-step instructions, and then doing everything step by step. Only with the right one you will get good internet speed.

I hope that after reading this article, you have found the answer to the question of why the Internet is slow. If not, then you have only one thing left - to seek help from professionals. They are 99% likely to help solve your problem.

We cannot imagine today without the Internet. And indeed, we cannot even leave the house until we look at the weather forecast or traffic jams on the service of the same name. For many others, the World Wide Web is a huge and main source of information that no encyclopedia can compete with. But there are people in the world who, with the help of the Internet, even earn their living ...

In general, it is not for us to tell you about this. But what we would like to talk to you about today is the problems that arise with the Internet. In particular, we would like to tell you why, unexpectedly for you, it began to work slowly. You will find out about the reasons right now.

You forgot to pay for internet

Indeed, many people simply forget to put money into their personal account, especially if they need to be deposited not by the first day of each month, but in the middle of it. Some have such a feature - if the user forgot about the payment, he will not be completely disconnected from the system, but simply limit the maximum speed. Often the same function is present on limit tariffs. If you download a lot and you don’t have enough traffic, then it recommends changing your tariff plan to unlimited, if such an option is available.

Problems on the provider's side

Providers can change equipment. This is not always accompanied by a complete shutdown of the Internet, often its speed is simply underestimated, if possible. Often this happens due to breakdowns, which, by the way, your provider may not be aware of at all until you tell him about it.

If the problem is not solved within one or two days, then you can safely write a complaint, although it may be more effective to change the Internet provider in your apartment. But do not resort to this immediately - everyone has force majeure circumstances.

By the way, if the provider has weak equipment, and the number of subscribers is large, then during peak hours a large load on the system can be created, as a result of which users face problems. In such cases, you need to either wait until the Internet provider replaces the equipment, or simply change it to another one.

Programs running on computers

So, we found out that there are no problems with the provider and the connection works as it should. Then, first of all, you need to carefully examine the running programs on your PC or laptop that receive or send information. For example, the well-known "ICQ", which is used for communication. You will not believe it, but even one such program can completely clog the channel, thereby significantly reducing the connection speed!

However, in reality this rarely happens. But in this they were seen far more than once. How to fight? There are two ways out: either close the program, or reduce the maximum download speed in the client itself, but even this does not help in all cases.

It is also worth paying attention to all sorts of hidden updates. Yes, yes, that's right - while you do not suspect anything, the next update for the Windows operating system or for the Internet browser is downloaded to your computer. It is at these moments that the speed can drop very much. By the way, if we talk about Internet browsers, they often also affect the speed of loading pages or files, and this may not be the fault of the browser itself, but the extensions installed for it.

Malicious files

Viruses and Trojans are the scourge of the modern Internet. They are on every second site, and the owner of the resource may not even know about it. Viruses are very different: some only substitute for redirecting the user to various websites, others steal logins and passwords from social networks or bank cards, and still others arrange ddos attacks on a third-party computer. Well, the user is not even aware of what is happening on his PC, since it is almost impossible to notice activity without antivirus software. All this muck can clog the channel so much that the Internet works at a very low speed.

What to do if you suspect that you have a virus? It's very simple - use the antivirus installed on your PC. What, you're missing it? How do you even get on the World Wide Web?! Remember once and for all - the antivirus must be installed on your computer. Even if it is free, in any case, it will be able to weed out most of the malicious files. And almost all eminent manufacturers offer free antiviruses.

So, the antivirus is installed. What's next? Next, you need to scan your system. In addition, use a special utility from Kaspersy or Dr.Web Cureit. The latter is a powerful antivirus software that can easily and effortlessly find a trojan or virus. The utility is distributed free of charge, however, for this, developers require automatic reports to be sent after verification. There is nothing terrible in this.

Firewall blocking

If a particular site does not open for you or its download speed is very low, although it loads instantly from another PC, then the matter may lie in the presence of a firewall. It can be either built into the operating system or into the antivirus. Try to get to the settings and see if this site is not included in the list of blocked ones. If so, it will need to be removed from there or moved to the exclusion list.

This happens quite rarely, but it still occurs, so this case also cannot be discounted.

Removing temporary and unnecessary files

In this case, we are talking about the cache in browsers, as well as entries in the registry, which for some reason remain after the removal of a particular program. In both cases, you can delete files manually, but this is often inconvenient and time consuming. Therefore, we advise you to use special removal utilities that are distributed free of charge. One such utility is CCleaner. We will talk about it in one of our upcoming articles, but for now, we advise you to read about its capabilities on the official website.

Problems with the router

If you use a router to get a connection, then your difficulties may be related to just the same with this small device. The fact is that often they “cut” the speed very much. This happens, for example, in the event of a malfunction or overheating of the device. Try resetting the settings on your device again. This can help.

Have you encountered a similar problem and already solved it? Don't forget to tell us about it!
