Sowing seeds of cucumbers in May. When to plant cucumber seedlings. Lunar calendar and folk wisdom

If the gardener wants to get an early harvest, he must decide in advance on the place for planting cucumbers, the method of forming large bushes and the advance cultivation of her seedlings.

Determine the optimal timing for planting cucumber seeds

When growing cucumber seedlings, this question is perhaps the most difficult. The following factors influence the date and time of landing:

  • Weather in your region.
  • The age of the seedlings you will plant.
  • Whether seed treatment (including hardening), germination will be performed.

In some regions of Russia and Ukraine, residual frosts may seem unheard of in late May or early June.

The optimal age of cucumber seedlings is considered to be 25-30 days.

Plants of this age are well tolerated by all the hardships of transplanting seedlings into the ground, to a permanent place.

Planting material processing can take up to a week. This is both disinfection and hardening - germination. Hatched (germinated) seeds give more stable seedlings. You can read more about seed germination in just 2 days from personal experience here (an article will appear soon).

As a rule, they process and disinfect “their” seeds collected at their site. Sellers usually sell already processed seeds, so any intervention can damage the seller's processing.

If we take the extreme starting point (which we talked about at the beginning) the first days of June, then the sowing of seeds falls on the last days of April. If processing is required, subject to the planting of "your" seeds, then it must be started no later than April 20.

If the seedlings are planted in closed ground (greenhouse or greenhouse), this will give us an advantage of 15 days. Thus, you can start work from the beginning of April 7-10.

In the Moscow region, you can also focus on the same dates for planting cucumbers in seedlings.

For growing cucumbers in cold regions, older varieties are taken, because. they spend less time producing fruit. Fruiting should be calculated in July, August. These months are the most favorable for fruiting in Siberia and the Urals.

When planning the yield, you need to remember that the main part will be formed already in the first month of fruiting, then the number will decrease.

Having planted a parthenocarpic variety of cucumber in early May for seedlings, already in July you can have crispy cucumbers in a salad bowl.

Sowing cucumbers for seedlings according to the lunar calendar 2017

Many gardeners listen and take into account the advice of astrologers. When planning garden "events" they must be coordinated with the lunar calendar.

Sowing cucumbers with a growing moon allows the plant to develop better and produce increased fruit yields.

For sowing cucumbers in 2017, our highlights the following dates:

  • March -2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 30;
  • April - 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 30;
  • May - 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 19, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30;

☀ Good luck and all the best to you! ☀

It is important for any vegetable grower to know the lunar rhythms and observe folk signs so that the seedlings sprout successfully and subsequently be strong, strong and healthy. For centuries, people have learned from nature and the cosmos in order to begin to understand their language and not make mistakes. Cucumber culture is very capricious, and it takes a lot of effort to grow it. Therefore, in order to get a rich harvest, it is useful to know about the lunar calendar and folk signs.

Why is planting time important?

The moon influences planet Earth in many ways, from the ebb and flow of the tide to health and longevity. On different days, energy force, lunar rhythm, weather conditions or anomalies have a different force of influence on the planet and plants. So, for example, on unfavorable days, a seed will not germinate, a sprout may wither, or a plant will give a very meager harvest in the future. Therefore, it is so important to know the days when you need to sow the seeds, and when it is worth moving the garden work to a more suitable time.

The importance of the right planting time cannot be overestimated, as special days affect the germination and development of plants.

Lunar calendar for any year for cucumbers

In general, there are several general rules, or rather, recommendations in accordance with the lunar calendar of each year.

  • Try to purchase seeds during the growing moon, as even purchases at such a time "make the weather."
  • Don't plant anything on a full moon. It is also undesirable to sow half a day before and after it. The same goes for the new moon.
  • Do not ignore information about the signs of the zodiac in which the moon is located during the landing period. There are groups of fertile signs and signs, on the contrary, not conducive to agriculture.

Table: the general influence of the moon on the growth and development of plants

All phases of the moon play a big role in gardening.

Favorable phases of the moon for planting cucumbers

The first and second phases of the moon give the plant additional energy and strength for growth. You need to sow cucumbers on days when the lunar rhythms smoothly move from the first phase to the second, or from the third to the fourth.

How to care for cucumbers during the different phases of the moon

  • Phase 1 and 3 - plant, water and fertilize.
  • Phase 2 and 4 - sow, remove weeds, carry out foliar fertilization and spraying.

Crops that produce fruit above the ground should be sown and transplanted only on the waxing moon. In practice, many gardeners and summer residents have found that excellent results in fruiting cucumbers are obtained by sowing seeds a week before the new moon and a couple of days after it.

When to plant cucumbers in 2017: months and dates

Not all dates and months are suitable for a successful planting of cucumbers. Often, vegetable growers have to hang a huge calendar on their wall in order to keep track of a series of lunar cycles and properly distribute plant care.

Lunar rhythms significantly affect cucumbers, because fruits are 90% water

To take into account the time of landing and the preliminary preparation for it, carefully study the dates below.

Table: favorable days for cucumbers by months of 2019

February is considered too early for planting cucumbers (unless you need a very early harvest or a crop for heated greenhouses or greenhouses in the southern region). It is best to do this in March or later months. In July, as a rule, cucumbers are sown only by those gardeners who later transfer the plants to a winter (warm) greenhouse to prolong the harvest.

Favorable days of the lunar calendar for cucumbers are dates that are quite suitable for planting pumpkins, zucchini, squash. All these crops belong to the same gourd family.

The time of planting cucumbers plays a crucial role in the timing of the formation of the crop.

Table: unfavorable landing times in 2019

These days it is not recommended to sow seeds and carry out any work with planting crops. If it is so necessary to work in the garden, take care of weeding, spraying or loosening. Landing should be rescheduled for more favorable days.

Garden work according to the lunar calendar

The signs of the zodiac and the phases of the moon often directly affect the results of landings. Each sign is responsible for certain stages in the growth and development of plants. This is important to know in order to avoid mistakes when planting crops.

By adhering to the rules of the lunar rhythm of plants, you can get a good harvest.

In what signs of the zodiac and phases of the moon to plant cucumbers

  1. Days with a full and new moon, as well as eclipses (of the moon and the sun) are not the right time for any work in the garden and garden.
  2. If you are in doubt whether to soak seeds on a certain day or not, know that a seed placed in water is considered planted. Water activates the germination process, as does moist soil. Therefore, both soaking and planting seeds should be on the 1st and 3rd phases of the moon.
  3. Cancer, Taurus, Capricorn and Scorpio are signs of the zodiac circle that are considered fertile.. All actions: sowing, fertilizing, transplanting or picking, when the moon is in these signs - they will all be successful.
  4. In the signs of Pisces, Scorpio and Cancer, plants absorb moisture from the ground better: watering will be of the greatest importance, and of course, this will have a wonderful effect on the planted seed.
  5. You should not sow in the signs of Virgo, Sagittarius and Aries: the signs will not please you in gardening. Germination will be average, but not the best.
  6. Gemini, Aquarius, Leo and Libra - in these signs the moon resides with a negative influence on sowing, transplanting and all other important earthworks. The infertility of these signs will lead to poor germination (below 30%), decay and ugliness of seedlings. But at such a time, you can do the removal of weeds and pest control in the garden.

Cucumber culture is thermophilic, therefore, if you dare to grow it in pots on windowsills, windows, illuminated shelving or balconies, provide it with proper warmth. Cucumbers can be planted immediately in pots for seedlings. As two true leaves appear, transplant the cucumbers into a wider, spacious container where they will grow constantly. It is better to do all this in winter fertile signs: Capricorn (December 22 - January 20) and Pisces (February 19 - March 20). In autumn - when the sign of Scorpio reigns (October 24 - November 20).

Fortunately, cucumbers are exactly the crop that pleases with its rapid growth. Therefore, landing and diving can be safely done during the period of influence of the desired sign.

Cucumbers can be planted all year round. But you need to know in which periods the fertile zodiac signs reign, and in which they do not.

All seasons of the year are divided into zodiac signs that affect planting

Important dates of the lunar calendar 2019

An important point is knowing the dates when planting and sowing is not worth it, so as not to waste your strength and resources in vain. And, first of all, you need to know the dates of the new moon.

You can't plant cucumbers on a new moon.

On the full moon, you should also not plant cucumbers.

Full moon - unfavorable periods for working with plants

Features of landing time depending on the region

Consider several climatic zones and regions of Russia with different climates:

Important! Do not purchase varieties of cucumbers of foreign selection for planting in the Leningrad region. The climate of this area is not suitable for the delicate varieties of European cultivation.

Folk omens about cucumbers

Cucumbers have been grown in Russia for more than five centuries. Of course, during this time there were many beliefs and signs about this culture. Many of them appeared thanks to popular observation.

People have been planting cucumbers for a long time and know what days it is better to do it.

  • It was impossible to show and brag about the first Zelentsy.
  • The first cucumber was buried in the ground so that in the future the harvest would be even greater. This is a kind of sacrifice for the patron saint of gardeners Falaley.
  • Later there was a belief to give the first cucumber to the boy. Then there will definitely be a fruitful garden bed.
  • People believed that the cucumber should be planted without "witnesses", that is, without strangers.
  • Cucumber is considered a “peasant” vegetable and it is best to plant it for men or boys.
  • If you plant cucumbers on Wednesday or Friday, the fruits will be bitter.
  • There is a special day in Russia - May 19th. On this day, according to legend, Denis the borage helps the seeds to sprout and give the best harvest. Look at the morning and the weather that day. If there is abundant dew, expect a rich harvest. And if the day itself after the dew is bright and sunny, this promises an even more abundant harvest of cucumbers.
  • Cucumbers are planted after flowers fly around from apple trees.
  • Cucumbers will be crunchy if sown on May 21st.
  • Northerners sowed cucumbers on St. Isidore's Day - May 27th. We looked closely at this day: if the weather is warm and clear, then there will be a lot of cucumbers.
  • In the old days, cucumbers were also planted when yellow dandelions began to bloom together.
  • If the landings are delayed, do not worry. On June 1, cucumbers can also be planted on Ivan Dolgoy. The next day (June 2), planting can be continued under the auspices of Falaley-borage.
  • June 5 - Leonty the borage. This is the last planting date in the folk calendar.

Interesting signs are the presence of a huge number of gadflies or cobwebs in early June. Just like the cones on pines and firs. If these signs are present, then the summer will be cucumber.

Landing on the 100th day after Christmas

The advice of previous generations can not only help us get good seedlings and a good harvest later on. These recommendations give us valuable experience, and even with climate change and weather differences, the result always pleases gardeners. One of the most unusual and important signs is the planting of cucumbers on the 100th day after the birth of Christ. According to the Orthodox calendar, Christmas is celebrated on January 7th. Accordingly, April 17 is the hundredth day after the holiday.

Planting on the 100th day after Christmas is an old Russian belief, the same as hanging pickled cucumbers or cucumber toys on a Christmas tree

The people call this day the Day of Osip, Alder Brides. It was believed that the spring warmth finally broke the winter bad weather. Therefore, early crops were sown, including cucumbers. It was also necessary to watch the crickets: if they sing, then the summer will be fruitful.

Timing of seedlings of cucumbers from seeds

Under all favorable conditions and the implementation of simple rules (observance of the phase of the moon, the creation of climatic conditions, timely watering, etc.), seedlings appear on the third day. Much, of course, depends on the variety and region, as well as on the fertility of the soil. But as a general rule, any healthy seeds should germinate by the fifth or seventh day.

Healthy seeds produce healthy and beautiful seedlings

In order not to get into a mess, it is best to test the seeds of cucumbers for germination and sow them two at a time in a hole or pot.

Cucumbers are one of the common crops, and there are many signs about it. To listen to them or not is the business of every gardener. However, the observance of the lunar calendar and beliefs has not hurt anyone yet.

Cucumbers are heat-loving plants, but they are grown almost throughout our country. In most cases, they are sown with seeds directly in the garden, but pre-growing seedlings at home is also quite popular for early production. This is not too difficult to do, the seedlings are on the windowsill for about a month, the conditions in a city apartment are usually quite suitable for its growth.

Soil for seedlings

To sow cucumber seeds for seedlings, it is necessary to prepare the seeds themselves, the soil mixture and containers in advance, in which the seedlings will spend a month of their lives. Regarding containers, everything is clear: it is impossible to grow cucumbers in common boxes, they categorically do not tolerate a transplant with a violation of the root system. Therefore, they require individual cups. Their volume should be from 300 to 500 ml; however, some gardeners grow seedlings of cucumbers even in eggshells.

And yet, to obtain high-quality seedlings, you should not be limited in the size of the cups. Their design should be such that it allows the seedlings to be removed without damaging the soil clod. Reusable cups with a retractable bottom are perfect in this regard, but peat pots are ideal, which are buried in the garden along with all the contents.

Each plant has its own personal cup

Light, acid-neutral, moisture- and breathable soil is placed in pots. Since things may not reach top dressing in a month, the soil should immediately contain a sufficient amount of nutrients. When growing a dozen copies of seedlings, it is easier to buy ready-made soil in the store, but it should be designed specifically for cucumbers. There is no need to rush to the cheapest options either: unfortunately, in such packages, land is still often sold “from under the fence”. Soil from a serious manufacturer is not required to prepare additionally.

In the case of self-preparation of the nutrient mixture, the best option is soddy land, good compost, peat and sand (ratio 2:2:1:1). Of course, options are possible: not always there is everything you need on the farm. Sawdust is also used as components of the mixture, sand is replaced with vermiculite, etc. Good compost or humus has a sufficient amount of fertilizer, but if these components could not be obtained, any soil must be flavored with wood ash (a glass on a bucket of soil) and add about 50 g azofoski.

If the land is taken directly from the garden, the soil must be disinfected. The easiest way is to generously water it with a pink solution of potassium permanganate a week before sowing the seeds. If suddenly it is not there, you can replace it with copper sulphate. After drying to a state convenient for work, the soil is poured into cups, placing a centimeter layer of drainage on the bottom, and allowed to settle for a day.

Terms of planting cucumbers for seedlings

Calculating the optimal time for sowing seeds in cups is very simple, but it is impossible to give a specific recommendation. From the moment of sowing seeds to planting seedlings in the ground, 30-35 days should pass. And then it all depends on what climatic region we are talking about and where they are going to grow cucumbers: in a greenhouse or in unprotected soil.

If we talk about the middle lane and consider planting seedlings in open ground, then without fear you can do this only at the beginning of summer. So, the seeds should be sown at the very end of April. If temporary film shelters are envisaged, everything can be shifted for a couple of weeks and seeds can be sown in mid-April. Well, if you have a good greenhouse, it will be possible to plant seedlings in it already in early May, which means that seedling business begins around April 1.

In more northern or southern regions, the dates, respectively, are somewhat shifted in one direction or another. But in the south, cucumber seedlings are grown only for very early consumption of products: in order to eat cucumbers at the usual time, they are sown without hesitation in the garden with seeds.

When to plant cucumbers for seedlings in 2019 according to the lunar calendar

Many gardeners check the dates of their country affairs with the phases of the movement of heavenly bodies. Since about 1990, many newspapers and magazines, and later Internet portals, have published numerous lunar calendars, in which they give favorable and forbidden dates for this or that work with a particular horticultural or horticultural crop. The trouble is that these dates in different editions vary greatly. Therefore, you have to analyze many sources and make some right decision for yourself.

So, for example, many sources call May 18, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 31 as favorable dates for sowing cucumbers in 2019.

If you still want to link sowing with the phases of the moon, you should know that it is recommended to sow cucumbers during the growing moon, closer to the days of the new moon. It is believed that during such periods, the growth processes of many crops are activated, which has a good effect on both the germination of seeds and the size of the future harvest.

Growing cucumber seedlings

Since in many modern varieties and hybrids the first cucumbers ripen already 33–38 days after germination, the need for growing seedlings is often far-fetched. But if you want to crunch on your own products as early as possible, our summer resident will definitely prepare at least a few seedling bushes.

Unlike, for example, cabbage seedlings, which need cool rooms to grow, cucumber thrives at the same temperature as a person, so seedlings can be prepared at home. But if there is a greenhouse or greenhouse nearby that has daily access, gardeners prefer to grow seedlings in them.

Preparing seeds for sowing

Fortunately, cucumber seeds do not need to be bought annually: they remain viable for 7-8 years. Moreover, fresh seeds are somewhat worse than those that have lain for two or three years: they have more "empty flower". Optimum seeds at the age of 2-4 years. True, modern hybrids may not be like that, but this is a rather complicated story, like the story of where several hundred varieties and hybrids suddenly appeared on the shelves. Are they really that different from each other?

Therefore, the current summer residents are divided into two groups. Some firmly believe that hybrids (F1) are many times better and plant only them, annually trying out all kinds of new products. Others from year to year grow old proven varieties and store their seeds from them, selecting for this purpose necessarily tetrahedral, not trihedral testes (yes, if you look closely, ripe cucumbers are not quite cylindrical!). Which gardener is right? I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. It is only clear that most hybrid seeds are sold ready for sowing, and you need to tinker with your own beforehand.

The entire list of seed preparation steps looks like this (but not all of them are required):

  • Calibration. This can be done manually: cucumber seeds are quite large, and the most frail ones are easily determined with fingers. It is even easier to dip the seeds in a solution of table salt (half a tablespoon in a glass of water), shake and wait 3-5 minutes. The weakest will emerge, they should not be sown.

    The seeds of cucumbers are large, you can feel each seed individually

  • Warming up. If you have just bought, fresh seeds on hand (or their origin is unknown), you should hold them for a couple of days by the radiator before sowing, which reduces the proportion of male flowers on which there are no fruits.
  • Disinfection. For seeds purchased from reliable companies in a specialized store, this operation is optional. You need to hold your own seeds or from neighbors for 15-20 minutes in a strong solution of potassium permanganate. After this operation, the seeds should be washed well with clean water.

    For disinfection of seeds, a strong solution of potassium permanganate is required, almost 1%

  • Soaking in fertilizer solutions or growth stimulants. It is not a mandatory procedure at all, but some amateurs use various preparations for this. The most natural is ash infusion or agave juice, diluted 5 times with water.

    Epin and Zircon are one of the most convenient stimulants to use.

  • Swelling in water. Even those seeds that are not processed in any way, many gardeners try to at least soak until they swell before sowing. Seeds are kept in warm water for a day (from 20 to 30 ° C), after which they are slightly dried so that they easily crumble when sown. This measure can speed up the emergence of shoots by only a day, so it is also highly controversial as a necessity.
  • hardening. But this is reasonable. Although many scientists do not show unanimity on this issue, believing that the hardening of seeds has almost nothing to do with the hardening of the plants themselves. For planting in a greenhouse, hardening seeds does not make sense, but for open ground this operation is popular. Hardening in the case of cucumber seeds is carried out by keeping the soaked seeds in a wet cloth in a refrigerator for a day.
  • Germination. This is done most often in wet sawdust until the appearance of the primary root - half the length of the seed. True, germinated seeds are more difficult to sow, but a couple of days are won.

    Sometimes things are brought even to the appearance of leaves, but it will be very difficult to plant such seeds.

Is it possible not to do anything from the above list? It is possible, the seeds will sprout and dry, only a little later. Therefore, it is necessary to choose only those steps that seem necessary in each specific situation.

Sowing seeds of cucumbers

Sowing cucumber seeds in cups with soil mixture poured into them is not difficult.

  1. They put 1–2 seeds each on the surface of the soil watered with water (it’s not a pity how much: after all, other seeds are now sold even by the piece!).

    Expensive seeds are sown one at a time: most likely, they have good germination

  2. They are covered with a layer of soil about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Spray the surface with a spray bottle with water.

    A gardener on the farm always needs to have a simple spray gun

  4. They put the cups in any convenient tray, cover with glass or film and transfer to a warm place (optimally with a temperature of 25–28 ° C).

    Glass will create a greenhouse effect and will not allow the soil to dry out.

Cucumber seedlings can be expected to emerge in 4–8 days, depending on variety and conditions. A few days after this, the worst plants must be carefully removed, or better, cut with scissors.

Cucumber seedling care

Before the emergence of seedlings, it is necessary to ensure that the soil does not dry out. Opening the glass, lightly ventilate the crops, and, if necessary, spray from a spray bottle. The best place for seedlings of cucumbers is a well-lit, warm window sill. As soon as shoots appear, the glass must be removed, and the temperature must be reduced to 18 ° C, at night a few degrees lower, and keep it that way for five days. This is the most difficult thing: by this time, as a rule, it is already getting warm, but if such conditions are not found, the seedlings will stretch out and be very weak.

Subsequently, the optimum temperature is about 24 ° C during the day and 18 ° C at night. And more light. If the sun is not enough, obligatory illumination with fluorescent lamps or diode lamps. Cucumbers on the windowsill need space, the bushes should not touch each other, so the cups need to be moved apart from time to time. The rest is in the care of seedlings - as for any vegetable plants.

When the window sills end, the tables are also forced to seedlings, but here you can’t do without lighting.

Watering seedlings after germination

Water cucumber seedlings only with warm water (about 25 ° C). At the same time, the soil should always be slightly moist: any stagnation of excess water, especially in case of insufficient heat, will certainly lead to decay of the root system. The frequency of watering depends on the nature of the soil and temperature conditions, but this should not be done daily.

After watering, experienced gardeners always pour dry, clean sand closer to the roots. It does not need much, a millimeter layer is enough: the sand, as it were, performs the function of mulch, and at the same time prevents the lower part of the stem from rotting.

top dressing

Often, when growing seedlings of cucumbers, they do without top dressing at all. If the soil mixture has been formulated correctly, cucumbers have enough nutrients until planting in the ground. Top dressing is needed only if the seedlings have stopped growing, the leaves have acquired an unnatural color, etc. Of course, this can also be associated with diseases (mainly from violations of the water and temperature regimes), but food is most likely used up.

In most cases, it is enough to pour cucumbers with ash infusion. If there is no ash, use any complete mineral fertilizer (preferably with a trace amount of boron). It is more reliable to use foliar top dressing. To do this, seedling leaves are sprayed with a weak solution of any complex fertilizer (as written on the package). At the same time, the concentration of the solution must be carefully monitored so as not to burn the leaves. After any top dressing, the seedlings are well watered, not forgetting to add a little sand after that.

There is nowhere to get ashes in a city apartment, so it’s worth stocking up on it since the fall after the next barbecue

Is it possible to pick seedlings of cucumbers

Picking seedlings of cucumbers in the classic version (with pinching the central root) is categorically unacceptable. But sometimes you still need to transplant the seedlings into another container. This can be done no earlier than when the first true leaf is cut through. Such a need may arise in the following cases:

  • too small containers taken during sowing;
  • strongly elongated seedlings;
  • overgrown seedlings due to incorrectly calculated sowing time;
  • seedling diseases.

In the first three cases, transplantation is carried out by the transshipment method: after a good watering of the seedlings, the earth is allowed to dry out somewhat so that the soil lump “grabs”, and the entire contents of the cup are transferred into a larger pot, adding earth. Since the root system is almost not affected, the probability of success is high; sometimes cucumbers don't even stop growing. With such a transplant, it is possible to deepen the seedlings somewhat (especially if it has stretched out), placing it in the ground almost along the cotyledon leaves. Of course, after transplanting, it must be well watered and transferred to twilight for a couple of days.

In the event of a disease, the soil is also likely to be infected, so the plants will have to be transplanted almost without an earthen coma, and the likelihood that everything will go well is small. But gardeners often try to save seedlings in this way. After watering, it is carefully removed from the cup with a minimum amount of soil, but trying to preserve the roots as much as possible. For such seedlings, more careful care is required. For the first time, it is placed not only in partial shade, but also slightly raise the temperature. If everything went well, after a week the seedlings return to normal conditions.

Planting seedlings of cucumbers in open ground

Seedlings of cucumbers at home are not more than a month. From this time, the first few days it is kept at a low temperature, then in comfortable conditions, and in the last week they begin to accustom it to living conditions in the open field. To do this, the seedlings are first taken out to the balcony for 15–20 minutes, then the walking time is gradually increased. But the temperature at the same time should not be too low, 10–12 ° C during the day - this is already stressful. By the time of planting in the garden, the seedlings should be on the balcony for up to half the daytime.

Good seedlings of cucumbers, ready for planting in the garden, should have at least three large dark green leaves and a strong, but short stem. It is very good if buds have already appeared on it (which, of course, does not happen with three leaves), as well as antennae. But it is undesirable for flowers to open at home.

Before transplanting into the ground, seedlings are well watered. Different planting schemes are offered, it also depends on the variety, but plantings should not be thickened. Most often, cucumbers are planted in an ordinary way, leaving distances of 40–50 cm between rows, and 25–30 cm between plants in a row. A denser planting does not always lead to an increase in yield, and vice versa. Naturally, the bed should be ready long before planting: it is well seasoned with fertilizers, primarily organic ones.

The term for planting cucumber seedlings in open ground is determined not so much by specific dates as by the state of the weather, and seedlings are relocated to a bed without shelter in the middle lane no earlier than the beginning of summer. They try to plan the landing on a cloudy day. The transplant process is simple:

  1. Before planting, once again loosen the bed and level the soil with a rake.

    Before the last leveling, the bed can be sprinkled with ashes again.

  2. In the places indicated according to the chosen scheme, they dig holes with a scoop slightly deeper than the size of the cups with seedlings.
  3. Half a glass of wood ash and a tablespoon of azofoska are added to each well as a local fertilizer, mixed well with the soil and poured 1-2 liters of warm water.

    Often holes are even dug with a shovel to make more local fertilizers.

  4. Gently removing the seedlings from the cup, lower it into the hole. Peat pots are buried along with all the contents. Perhaps a slight deepening of the seedlings, up to the cotyledon leaves, but in this case they try to place it obliquely so as not to bury the root system too deep.

    When the seedlings are good, they are almost not deepened

  5. The plantings are carefully watered with warm water, the soil is mulched with any bulk material, and if the weather is not yet quite summer, the bed is temporarily covered with spunbond or lutrasil.

Planting seedlings of cucumbers in a greenhouse

Preparing a greenhouse for planting cucumbers is more difficult than preparing beds in the open field, and may include:

  1. Disinfection of the greenhouse, carried out in the fall. If there were no diseases, the soil is simply watered with a solution prepared from copper sulfate and karbofos (1 tablespoon per bucket of water). If the disease raged, the entire soil is changed to a new one.
  2. Refueling the beds with fertilizers (in April). In the greenhouse, the amount of fertilizer is applied even more than in unprotected soil.
  3. Formation of high beds (up to 30 cm high) of a convenient width (usually 80 cm).
  4. Warming up the beds a week before planting seedlings. The bed is watered with hot water with the addition of small amounts of mullein or bird droppings (1-2 handfuls per bucket of water) and covered with a film.
  5. Arrangement of tapestries: in the greenhouse you need to save space. And if in the open field not all gardeners grow cucumbers in a vertical culture, in a greenhouse this is a generally accepted approach.

The planting of seedlings itself is no different from that in the case of unprotected soil and is possible when the daily temperature in the greenhouse is set at about 20 ° C.

In greenhouses for cucumbers, supports must be provided

Further care for cucumbers

In cucumbers, the root system is located at a depth of 5 to 25 cm. With an increase in air temperature and in the absence of rain, the ridges dry out quickly, so cucumbers need regular watering with water heated during the day in the sun. Cucumbers are watered in the evening hours, usually every other day. It is best to water with a watering can without a strainer so that the water does not splash and does not fall on the leaves. After each watering, the soil must be slightly loosened, and if necessary, the plants should be pricked up. Constantly fighting weeds.

After the appearance of the fifth true leaf, the plant is pinched to induce the development of side shoots, on which the bulk of the crop grows. True, pinching is optional for many modern hybrids, but it does not hurt.

By the time the flowering of cucumbers begins, their first top dressing is timed. To do this, take nitrophoska (30–35 g per bucket of water) and pour at least a glass of such a solution under each plant. The second top dressing is carried out when they see that after a friendly increase in the fruits of the whip, growth noticeably slows down and fruiting fades.

It is most convenient to grow cucumbers on trellises, but they themselves do not always climb where the owner would like, so periodically it is necessary to direct the whips and sometimes even tie them up. Harvest must be removed systematically, sometimes it has to be done daily. Otherwise, the cucumbers will outgrow, and new ovaries will stop forming.

It is not necessary to let the cucumbers overripe, otherwise the yield will drop sharply

Diseases and problems when growing seedlings of cucumbers

When growing cucumber seedlings at home, it is necessary to follow all the rules in terms of temperature, light and soil moisture. If something has been violated, diseases are possible, sometimes they end with the complete death of seedlings. So, pulling seedlings cannot be considered a disease, but it can be lost even because of this completely harmless option, which is very easy to avoid. Sometimes, in order not to stretch the plants, it is enough just to wash the windows.

Signs that something is wrong with the seedlings can be:

  • yellowing of leaves;
  • stem thinning;
  • leaf twisting;
  • growth stop;
  • leaf wilting.

In each case, it is difficult to accurately identify a specific disease, since there can be many of them, and the signs often overlap. The entire possible list looks impressive:

  • blackleg;
  • root rot;
  • white rot;
  • fusarium;
  • powdery mildew;
  • white mosaic.

These are far from all diseases, and for the diagnosis and treatment of seedlings, one must delve into the literature: in some cases, you can try to save the plants, but often this is impossible. The most common options found at home look like this.

Cucumber seedlings fall and wither

It's not always a disease. Perhaps the plants just do not have enough light. It is necessary to lead a powerful fluorescent lamp over them, and everything can return to normal. Perhaps the grown bushes are already shading each other, then the cups just need to be arranged more freely.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of reasons for the withering of seedlings, but in some cases it can still be helped.

Of course, wilting is possible and simply in hot weather and lack of moisture, then the seedlings need to be well watered. Sometimes she does not have enough nutrition, which means that it is worth adding a little complex fertilizer to the irrigation water. But even from an excess of nutrients, oddly enough, the death of seedlings is possible, therefore, it is also impossible to overdo it in this matter.

In the case of Fusarium wilt, that is, a dangerous disease, unfortunately, it will not be possible to help. But in any case, you can try to transplant plants that are just starting to fall into fresh soil.

Why the leaves of the seedlings turn yellow

Yellowing of the leaves can also indicate a whole range of problems: from banal non-compliance with agricultural technology to dangerous diseases. At home, most often the leaves turn yellow due to poor soil, in which nitrogen is simply lacking. If this is the case, a simple spray of a weak solution of urea over the leaves can save the day. But yellowing occurs not only due to a lack of nitrogen, but due to an incorrect balance of all nutrients, and here nothing can be done without analysis.

Yellowing of seedlings is not always a disease, sometimes it simply does not have enough nutrition.

Yellowing of the leaves is also possible due to too low temperatures, especially at night, and also due to a lack of natural light. This is very easy to fix. Other reasons for the yellowing of seedlings are so diverse that it is impossible to cover them within the framework of a short story.

What to do if pests appear

The most common cucumber pests are:

  • melon aphid;
  • ants;
  • gall nematodes;
  • whiteflies;
  • spider mites.

However, they mainly attack plants in the garden, and they can only get home with the soil, which is impossible with proper preparation for sowing. At home, miniature springtail worms can also be found, which gnaw on the small roots of seedlings. In any case, various insecticides are effective against pests, the most versatile of which is Aktara.

Cultivation of seedlings of cucumbers is not always a mandatory event; it is resorted to for earlier harvests. Since the bulk of cucumbers can also be obtained from direct sowing of seeds in the garden, it is enough for an average family to grow no more than a dozen seedlings. Every summer resident can afford it, and it is not difficult to do it at all.

In order to treat yourself to delicious greens from your own garden in the summer, you need to get down to business in the spring. The best result will be achieved if the summer resident knows when to plant cucumbers for seedlings in 2017 according to the lunar calendar. This will allow you to grow strong bushes and reap a rich harvest.

Cucumbers description, photo

Cucumber is an annual native to India. All its varieties are of three types - with short, medium or long lashes. The stem is creeping, reminiscent of a vine, and the root is of a tap type. The number of shoots is directly related to the variety and cultivation technology. The leaves are five-lobed, the flowers are yellow.

Fruits differ in color, weight, type of pubescence, size depending on the variety. They can be of different shades - from white to brown. Vegetables are eaten in the stage of technical ripeness, while the seeds are not developed, and the pulp is still tender and juicy. Still - a cucumber is 97% water! The remaining 3% are vitamins, minerals and some other substances.

Vegetables are grown not only in open, but also in protected ground. The second method is preferable, because this plant loves heat and moisture. If the shoots are cold, the ovaries may stop growing.

Classification of varieties

How to navigate the variety of options offered and not get lost in the "cucumber sea"? The choice depends on many factors. So, the main varieties of varieties:

  1. Cross-pollinated have male and female flowers, in natural conditions fertilized with the help of insects.
  2. Self-pollinating are most suitable for growing in a protected ground, the help of bees is not required.
  3. Parthenocarpics do not need fertilization for the development of the ovary, also a greenhouse variant.

Attention! You should not plant bee-pollinated varieties and parthenocarpics nearby, as bitter, substandard fruits will grow.

And there are several varieties depending on the culinary purpose. They are salad, pickling and options for canning. When planting, it is worth considering such features and separating varieties in order to avoid taste “surprises”, for example, in the case of salting.

Features of propagation of cucumbers by seeds

First you need to prepare the seed. This process takes place in several stages:

  1. Germination test. If you dip the seeds in a salt solution for 15 minutes, then the empty ones will float. Rinse the rest with clean water.
  2. Warming up. Keep the seed for 20 minutes in a warm place at a temperature of 45ºС.
  3. Disinfection. Soak for 15 minutes in a brown solution of potassium permanganate.
  4. Nutrition. "Embryos" are kept for 12 hours in a nutrient solution (for example, aloe juice, Epin or simply in milk).
  5. Germination. Leave the washed seeds, wrapped in a damp cloth, warm for a day until pecking.
  6. hardening. Hold the seed for 24 hours in the refrigerator at a temperature of +1 ... +2 degrees Celsius.

Attention! If a hybrid variety is intended for cultivation, all manipulations with seeds are canceled. In this case, no preparation is required.

Lunar calendar favorable days for planting cucumbers for seedlings: January / February / March / April

If you follow the natural rhythms of the natural satellite of the Earth, you can get an excellent harvest. Any gardener should know that planting this vegetable during the periods of new moons or full moons is strongly discouraged.

Indeed, these days all plant juices are concentrated either in tops or in roots, which does not promise a favorable development for the future seedling. On the growing moon, the juices rise up to the tops and leaves, so cucumbers need to be planted at just such a moment. On a waning one - it is worth sowing root crops, since vitality rushes to the very bottom of the plant.

The most favorable days in 2017 are:

  • January - 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 30;
  • February - 1, 5, 12, 14;
  • March - 9;
  • April - 9, 18, 22, 27, 28.

Agricultural technology for growing seeds

The preparation of the soil mixture is one of the most important conditions for the health of future bushes. Ready-made peat soil from the store may be suitable, but it quickly passes moisture through itself, and when dried, it clumps into a tight lump. It may not be entirely comfortable for “residents” to develop in such conditions.

Therefore, it will be optimal to cook everything yourself. It will be a mixture of peat, humus, small sawdust in a ratio of 2: 2: 1. It is worth adding 3 tablespoons of ash and one nitrophoska to a bucket of substrate. The second version of homemade soil includes leafy and soddy soil, as well as compost in equal proportions.

If there is no desire to try for the sake of future "garden" achievements, then the soil from previously fertilized beds, where onions, garlic, nightshade, and legumes grew, will also do.

Since the root system is very delicate, the most thoughtful packaging options are required, with the help of which it will be possible to move the grown “kids” to a permanent place in a gentle mode. It is recommended to grow in special peat pots.

Young growth can be planted in the garden right with them. The soil mixture is applied to the container to the brim. The hole is made shallow, up to 2 cm. It is preferable to lay the seed on a barrel, and not put it vertically. The optimal size for pots for seedlings is 10 x 10 cm.

Know! Plastic cups from yogurt, sour cream, fermented baked milk are a poor choice of containers for future seedlings, since lactic acid bacteria can cause root diseases.

For planting, you can even use pieces of turf. They are chosen somewhere in the sun. Next, they cover the box with a film and lay the blanks with the grassy part down. A teaspoon of ash is added to the center of each square and a seed with a sprout is planted. Fertilizer is applied after germination.

The first time after sowing the seeds and before the emergence of seedlings, it is worth covering the container with a film, a suitable air temperature is + 25 ° C. Water with warm water. As soon as the sprouts hatch, the film must be removed and the temperature lowered by 5 degrees so that the shoots do not stretch out and wither. It is better to give preference to a well-lit place, but you should not place the pots in direct sunlight.

If the roots of the seedlings have occupied the entire capacity allotted to them, and the young growth has two or three true leaves, it's time to land on the garden. This usually happens 20-25 days after germination. In about a week, the shoots begin to harden - they are taken out onto the balcony or outside at a temperature of + 18⁰ C.

Important! Cucumber seedlings do not tolerate drafts.

When to plant seedlings in the ground according to the lunar calendar in 2017

Depending on climatic conditions, the timing of planting young plants in the ground varies from April to early June. In any case, it is necessary to do this at a time when the moon is "growing". For example, in April, such a period will be before the full moon on the 11th or after the new moon, which will be on the 26th.

Thus, the following days will be the most favorable: 1, 2, 4, 7, 27, 30. In May, based on the same considerations, the best will be - 1, 2, 5-7. In early June, transplantation is possible from 5 to 8. It is no longer advisable to plant cucumbers later.

Secrets of creating a productive furrow

It is quite possible to enjoy the first cucumbers in early June. Summer residents with experience share the tricks of growing on a "prolific" strip. To do this, it is necessary to dig a trench in the center of it with a depth equal to 1.5 bayonets of a shovel.

One-third of the recess is filled with last year's waste from the compost heap, you can add ash and rotted manure. The Baikal-M fertilizer will not be superfluous either. A little ordinary earth is added, and the soil mixture is mixed. The top layer will be 10 cm of humus.

To optimize the timing of planting, in this case, it is more convenient to sow in mid-April, and move the "teenagers" to the miracle furrow in early May. Approximately 35 bushes are required per strip 7 m long. It is better to have a few pieces in stock if any seedlings do not seem promising.

Landings should be covered with non-woven material, and additionally secured with a film on top. As soon as the first antennae appear, it must be removed and the cucumbers tied to the trellis.

Know! To rationally use the space of the site and improve the fruiting of cucumbers, kohlrabi and head lettuce can be planted with them.

warm bed

You can create a permanent and comfortable place for the "residence" of cucumber shoots. Such an abode for a green vegetable will last about 10 years. Basic principles of arrangement:

  1. Dig a trench 50-60 cm deep and about one meter wide.
  2. Lay wood chocks across the trench (for example, fragments of roots, tree trunks), and even better, fresh boards, the length of which is 60-70 cm.
  3. On the sides - fall asleep with wood chips. Lay the inverted turf on top and tamp.
  4. Throw a dried wood leaf on top, and pour a mixture of earth and compost (1: 1) in the next layer. The thickness of this should be 10 cm.
  5. You can arrange a wooden box around the perimeter, slightly beveling its edges on the south and west sides so that the maximum amount of sunlight penetrates.

Unfavorable days for sowing cucumber seeds for seedlings

If the natural satellite of the Earth passes through such zodiac signs as Libra, Aquarius, Leo, Gemini, then this period is considered not suitable for planting a vegetable. It is on such days that the moon has a negative effect on germination.

In order not to waste your time and energy in vain, you should refuse to sow on the following days:

  • March: 4, 5, 25, 26, 31;
  • April: 10, 21, 22, 26, 29.
  • May: 20, 24, 29.

Important! Do not neglect information about the position of the moon. The negative impact on plants on "bad" days has long been recognized by the scientific community.

When to sow cucumber seeds in open ground according to the lunar calendar in 2017

A green vegetable loves warmth, and maintaining an adequate temperature regime is the main postulate in the agricultural technology of growing this crop. If the soil has warmed up to + 15 - 20⁰С during the day and at least + 8⁰С at night, then it's time to sow cucumbers in open ground. In central Russia, a suitable period begins around mid-May.

In order to have fresh and healthy homemade greens on your plate all summer long, experienced gardeners recommend sowing in three steps. On St. George's Day (May 6), on Nicholas (May 22) and May 28 (Pakhoma holiday). According to the lunar rhythm, the most favorable in May will be the 1st, 9th, 28th, and in early June - the 6th, 7th.

Preparing the site for planting without seedlings

About a week before sowing, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work to disinfect the soil. To do this, the earth is shed with a solution of liquid mullein (0.5 l), bird droppings (one glass), copper sulfate (teaspoon). All components are mixed in a bucket of water (10 l). This amount is enough to process 2 square meters. m. area.

Important! The prepared area is covered with a film to retain moisture and heat.

Further actions are as simple as possible, but effective:

  1. It is necessary to provide shelter (a film is suitable). For this, arcs about 80 cm high are installed. The distance between them should be about a meter.
  2. It is also better to cover the soil surface itself with a black non-woven material in order to accumulate more heat. Slots are made in the canvas for planting seeds.
  3. The depth of planting seed into the ground is about 2 cm.
  4. It is better to lay two seeds in one hole. When shoots appear - pinch a weaker shoot. It is important not to uproot it! After all, they will be intertwined at closely seated bushes.
  5. Cover the crops with an additional layer of non-woven material. When shoots appear, it can be removed.
  6. Additionally, insulate and protect the grown young with jars or cut plastic bottles.

The film on the arcs remains for the whole season, because the comfortable temperature for the development and growth of the ovaries is about 18-22˚C at night, but not higher than 35˚C during the day. At extremely high temperatures, pollen loses its fertilizing properties.

Following all the secrets and having studied the intricacies of the process of growing young plants, it is necessary to take into account when to plant cucumbers for seedlings in 2017 and according to the lunar calendar. A modern knowledge base will allow you to achieve significant success, the main thing is not to be lazy.

Favorable days for sowing cucumbers according to the Lunar calendar of 2017: March 1, 6-7, March 29-31; 9-10, 27-28 April; May 26-27; June 6-7, 8-9.

When to sow cucumbers according to the Lunar sowing calendar of the gardener and gardener 2017?

Cucumbers are plants native to the tropics, so they love warmth. Seedlings of cucumbers can be planted in the soil with a temperature not lower than + 15 ° C. Without measuring the temperature of the soil, the time of planting cucumbers can be determined by folk signs or other signs - when the air temperature at night does not drop below + 10 ° C during the week, or when dandelions bloom en masse.

In addition, cucumber varieties are selected according to the type of growth and fruit quality.

Planting dates for cucumbers in the middle lane

In Moscow and the Moscow region, cucumbers are sown with germinated seeds in glass and film greenhouses in mid-May, under temporary film shelters - at the end of May, in open ground - until June 5. Ready seedlings in open ground can be planted after June 10. Or in the same period, film shelters are removed. Unfortunately, in the middle lane, cold weather can drag on until mid-June. Given the general recommendations, it is still better to keep an eye on the weather.

Optimal planting dates for cucumbers in the Leningrad region: sowing for seedlings - the end of April-the first days of May, seedlings are planted in an unheated film or glass greenhouse on May 20-25, cucumbers are planted under film tunnel shelters on May 20-25. You can remove film shelters from cucumber plantations on June 10-15.

Sowing seeds of cucumbers for seedlings and in the ground

How to calculate the correct sowing time for cucumbers? The optimal age of seedlings is 25-30 days. Quality seedlings should be at least 30 cm high, with 3 to 4 leaves. To calculate the time of the beginning of fruiting, it is necessary to take into account the early ripening of the variety. By early maturity, all varieties and hybrids of cucumbers are divided into:

  • Early ripe cucumbers bloom 32-45 days after sowing.
  • Mid-ripening cucumbers bloom for 50-55 days.
  • Late-ripening cucumbers bloom for 55-70 days.

Planting cucumbers in the Middle Urals

The favorable period for the growth and fruiting of cucumbers in the Urals, where the climate is harsh and rather cold, is very limited: frosts can be until the first decade of June, and sometimes until the end of the second decade of June, and already in the third decade of August they begin again. Therefore, in the northern regions, cucumbers are grown mainly in greenhouses and very often through seedlings. Seedlings are planted no earlier than the third decade of May. To quickly warm the soil in the beds, you can use the following method: immediately after the snow melts, the beds are shed with warm water and covered with a film or lutrasil.

Cucumber seedlings are planted in the Urals: May 20 in film greenhouses without biofuel, May 1 in film greenhouses with manure. Cucumbers can be sown in open ground in the 20th of May in the presence of shelter. Cucumbers are planted in the ground until June 10. In the same period, you can plant zucchini and pumpkins. Early ripe varieties of cucumbers (38-45 days after germination) can be planted in three terms: the first sowing on May 20, the second - on June 1-5 and the last sowing - on June 15. This will help stretch the fruiting period of cucumbers until September.

In the Urals and Siberia for planting cucumbers, it is better to select hybrids with increased resistance to adverse weather factors and diseases. The most productive in the conditions of the Far East are mid-early and mid-ripening varieties of cucumbers, for example, Far East–27 or Erofei selection of the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture. In addition, to increase the resistance of plants, it is useful to carry out pre-sowing preparation of seeds - hardening.

In the southern regions of Russia and Ukraine cucumber seeds are sown directly in open ground from mid-April to early May. The optimal time for sowing seedlings is the last days of March.

In the Rostov region cucumber seeds can be sown in open ground as early as the end of April. In the same period, seedlings can be planted. When sowing cucumbers for seedlings, keep in mind that they do not tolerate transplanting well: it is better to sow cucumbers in separate peat pots.

AT Crimeacucumber seeds are sown in open ground in early May, at the same time ready-made seedlings are planted, at the age of 25-30 days. For seedlings, seeds are sown in early to mid-March.

If the timing of planting cucumbers in the ground depends on the weather, then when growing cucumbers at home - on a balcony or on a windowsill, cucumbers can be sown much earlier. Step-by-step guide and photo for growing cucumbers at home:

Caring for cucumbers according to the lunar sowing calendar 2017

Cucumbers require constant attention: they need to be watered, fed, constantly tied up and formed into whips.

Watering cucumbers according to the lunar calendar. Cucumbers need constant watering. Especially during the period of active fruiting, about once every three days. With a lack of moisture, cucumbers begin to taste bitter, grow crooked or pear-shaped. But with watering, and even more so with sprinkling, you need to be very careful on dangerous days when the Moon falls under the influence of the sign of Libra and Gemini: March 4-5, March 13-14; April 1, 9-11; 7-8, 16-17 May; June 4-5, 3-4, June 29-30; July 1, 10-11, 29-30; 16, 25-26 August.

Top dressing, mulching and weeding. Feed cucumbers 5-6 times during the entire growth period. Feed the first time when the second true leaf appears, the second - at the beginning of flowering; the third, fourth and fifth - during the formation of ovaries and fruiting, with a frequency of once every 2 weeks.

The most favorable days for fertilizing according to the Lunar sowing calendar of 2017: 4-5, 9, 13-16, 18-21, 23-28 March; 12-13, 22-23 April; May 19-23; June 8-9; 2-5, 20-21, July 24; 3-4, 9-12 August.

You can not feed cucumbers: March 21–22; April 17–18; May 14–15; June 10–12; 8–9 July and 4–5 August.

It is useful to mulch all plantings on April 12-13, 17-18; May 9-10, 12-13; June 28-29; 25-26, 29-30 July; 8, 17-18, 29-30 August 2017. On these days, weeding will be very effective. After weeding, the soil can be mulched with mowed lawn grass, sawdust or humus.

Cucumber shaping. For the formation of cucumbers, it is better to choose days on the waning Moon in Taurus (May 23-24, June 20-21, July 17-18) or on the waning Moon in Aquarius (April 19-20, May 16-17, June 13-14, 10 -11 July).

Spraying against diseases and pests cucumbers will give the greatest result if it is carried out: March 2-3, 8-9, 18-21, 23-24, 29-30 March; April 24-25; 16-17, 21-22, 30-31 May; 3-4, 18-19, 21-22 June; 4-5, 10-11, 20-21, 27-28 July; 15-18, 29-30 August 2017.

First cucumber day of the year. On this day, cucumbers are planted in the beds: “If there is a lot of dew on Job, the day is clear, and the night is warm, there will be a big harvest, and if the night is cold, it will not be a cucumber year.”

May 27 (May 14, old style) - Sidor-borage or Sidor-Bokogrey: "If the day is clear on Sidor, expect a good harvest of cucumbers. If the weather is cold, then the whole summer is expected to be cold."

June 1 (May 19, old style) Ivan Dolgiy. P continue to plant cucumbers. If it rains on Ivan the Long, then the whole month promises to be dry.

June 2 (May 20, old style) Falaley the borage or Timofey Gryadochnik. Continue planting cucumbers in the beds. But in the Northern regions, cucumbers are just beginning to be planted on Timofey: "Timofey came - this cucumber soon." There is also a sign: if it rained on the first two days of June, the whole month will be dry.

June 5 (May 23, old style) Levon Ogorechnik, Levon Konoplyanik- Deadline for planting cucumbers. On Levon (Leontia) it was customary to plant cucumbers for pickling, because cucumbers planted during this period, according to popular beliefs, are the most crispy, strong and sweet. There is an interesting cucumber sign: the first row of cucumbers must be sown secretly, then the harvest will be great!

August 17 (August 4, old style) - Avdotya Malinovka, Cucumber, Senognoyka. By this time, the last harvest was ripening in the beds. Now, in the presence of greenhouses and tunnel shelters, the cucumber season can be extended until September.
