Preparing the TV for use

Installation order

When choosing a place to install a TV, it should be borne in mind that extraneous light falling directly on the screen makes it necessary to resort to an increase in image contrast and brightness of the screen, which reduces the life of the kinescope. Therefore, install the TV in the least lit place.

If moisture gets into your TV set, then turn it on and let it dry at room temperature in a dry place for 3-4 hours.

If the TV is brought from the street into a warm room in winter, then before turning it on, it must be allowed to warm up to room temperature for 12 hours,

do not place the TV near stoves, fires, central heating radiators and in damp places.

Place the TV on a solid surface for better sound.

Connecting to AC power and setting up the TV

The TV is produced by a factory prepared for connection to the mains with a voltage of 220 V.

Before connecting the TV to the network, you need to make sure that the TV's power button "NETWORK" is in the up (off) position. Then connect the power cord to the power connector located on the back wall of the TV casing (Fig. 3), and plug the plug into the power outlet.

Turn on the TV by pressing the "NETWORK" button.

When receiving television broadcasts in the meter wave range, press the appropriate button for the "MV" range switch, depending on which of the television channels is broadcasting "1-5" or "6-12" channels.

The tuning scale on the front panel of the TV is applied approximately. After the raster (luminous screen) appears, use the “Settings” knob to tune the TV to the desired program. After the appearance of sound and image, turn the knobs "Adjustment", "Brightness", "Contrast", "Sound" to set the best quality of image and sound,

The TV set can be adjusted according to the test table in Fig. 6, as well as during the transmission of a television program, achieving the correct image using the main control knobs. In this case, it is necessary to be guided by the following: the “Contrast” knob is set to a position in which the image will have the correct halftone ratio and the clarity of the boundaries between white and black.

The Brightness knob is set to a position where the white parts of the image would look fairly light. You should never make the brightness excessive, as increased brightness tires the eyesight and shortens the life of the kinescope.

The main criterion for image quality is clarity. Clarity but vertical is determined by the horizontal wedges in the middle of the table (Fig. 6).

Horizontal clarity is determined by the vertical wedge of the table. The numbers next to the section of the wedge, where these lines begin to merge, characterize the clarity of the image.

The contrast and brightness of the image are checked against two vertical gradation bands located in the central circle of the test chart. Each stripe is divided into 10 different white-to-black staggered sections. Getting different 6-8 gradations corresponds to the correct setting of contrast and brightness.

With a properly configured TV:

a) the image of the table must occupy the entire screen area and must be correctly oriented;

b) the image must be stable;

c) the image must be clear and well focused;

d) the large circle in the center of the table should be as correct as possible;

e) the sound should be clear and its volume should be well regulated.

When viewed from a close distance, the line structure of the image should be visible.

Turning off the TV is done by pressing the "Network" button (upper position), after which the power cord plug is removed from the power outlet.

Connecting the TV to the car's on-board network

Set the "Network" button to the "On" position (lower position of the button).

One end of the special power cord supplied with the TV is connected to the power socket on the back of the TV casing, and the other end is connected to the car's cigarette lighter socket. After that, press the "Network" button, setting it to the upper position "Off". Further operation with the controls is similar to turning on the TV in the AC mains.

The performance of the TV is maintained at a DC voltage of at least 12 V.

Using the Telescopic Antenna and Connecting an Outdoor Antenna

To receive television broadcasts in the meter wave (MV) range, the TV has its own retractable telescopic antenna located behind the TV (Fig. 3).

The telescopic antenna is oriented in such a way as to obtain the best picture and sound. With a strong signal, the length of the extended antenna can be reduced. When carrying the TV, the telescopic antenna must be folded and fixed on the stop.

If the signal is weak (at home), you must use an external antenna, for which you need to disconnect your own and connect the external antenna to the antenna jack located at the back of the TV (Fig. 4). As an outdoor antenna in the field at a great distance from the TV center, you can use a wire 6-10 m long, which is attached to a mast, tree or any other tall object. In this case, the higher the antenna is mounted, the better the reception.

Reception of television programs in the range of decimeter waves (UHF)

To receive broadcasts in the UHF range on a TV, you must:

Install the vertically folded telescopic antenna, first disconnecting its connecting plug from the socket. Fix the UHF loop antenna on the body of the telescopic antenna. Connect

Connecting the TV to the car's on-board network

Using a telescopic antenna and connecting an outdoor antenna

UHF antenna cable to socket

Press the "DMV" range switch key to the "DMSH" position (lower position of the switch);

Turn on the TV in the network;

Slowly turning the knob "Settings" on the scale on the front panel, select the desired program.

Additional adjustments

In addition to the main control knobs on the TV, there are auxiliary adjustments that are brought out under the slot and located at the bottom of the TV casing.

Frame frequency. If the image is moving in the vertical direction, use a screwdriver to carefully turn the Op. get a stable image.

Line frequency. Random stripes on the screen, twitching of individual lines or groups of lines, eliminate with a screwdriver by carefully turning the knob

Listening to the sound of TV programs on the head phone

To listen to the soundtrack of TV programs on the head phone, you need to insert the head phone plug into the socket on the side wall of the TV (Fig. 1), and the TV speakers turn off.

When using a headphone, do not set the volume too high, as this will distort the sound,

1991 and 1993

"Electronics-409" and "Electronics-409D" are Soviet portable black-and-white televisions built using microcircuits. They are distributed throughout the CIS countries, where they became famous as reliable, lightweight and easy-to-repair portable TVs. These "TVs" are able to work both from a 220V socket and from any 12V source, for example, the car's on-board network. This TV model was produced from 1988 to ~1996 at the Kation plant, Khmelnitsky, Ukraine. TVs with the letter "D" in the name are capable of receiving 39 more channels than those without a letter due to the presence of a decimeter range. At the turn of the decade, "409th Electronics" were produced in 3 body colors: white, ivory, black, dark red, green (rare). In the last five years of release, they were produced under the brand name "Electronics" and only in a black case (photo). There may have been other modifications. For export, the model with UHF was produced under the brand name " TeleStar 4004". In addition, the Electronics-409VKU monitor was produced, designed for use with the L-50 video surveillance camera. In the 90s, the “Electronics 16TB-410D” model was produced in small series, which was distinguished by the presence of a push-button channel selection unit. However, it has not been widely adopted.

At the Virtual Museum presented two copies. First, white released in 1991 (not earlier than August, most likely in autumn) and was found in February 2012 near dumpsters. Then I had nothing to do, and I decided to try myself in a new field - the repair of analog electronics. After cleaning, it became clear that this TV is a good opportunity to try your hand. At first there were suspicions that the kinescope was broken, but the trial inclusion showed the conditional performance of the TV. Cracks at the points of glass welding in kinescopes are a normal phenomenon, and do not always mean a loss of tightness. The previous owner soldered the video input for the Spectrum type game console, but it was obviously made on the knee from a big hangover, so it was decided to unsolder it and return the native UPCHIiZ circuit 🙂.

I got the TV with a malfunction, which manifested itself in the form of a complete lack of focus and a dark raster (i.e. image) [ video]. Inspection showed the presence of a burned-out resistor R1 2 and a darkened, but serviceable R1 5. The burned-out resistor was replaced. When the test is turned on, R1 5 burned out completely, with smoke. They are responsible for the formation of focusing (image sharpness) and accelerating (image brightness) voltages. What's the matter? It turned out that the high-voltage capacitors C9, C10 were broken and caused a short to ground. After replacing the resistors and the specified capacitors, the TV worked fine, the image became a little brighter and sharp enough. However, the kinescope was shrunken and shone dimly. After some time, at the then unified forums “Domestic Radio Engineering of the 20th Century”, an announcement appeared for the sale of a new kinescope in its original packaging, which was immediately bought by me. After replacing the tube with a new one, the image became excellent. The repair cost 640 rubles, but most importantly - experience!
After a while, the TV suddenly turned off. It turned out that the capacitor C6 broke through in the collector of the horizontal output transistor. The air conditioner was replaced with a new one, and the TV started working again.
There was another malfunction on the TV, this time appearing intermittently. After half an hour or an hour of work, tuning to channels began to run away. At first I thought about the channel selectors, then the +15V stabilizer, but the reason turned out to be ... dirt on the +15V stabilizer board. It was partially washed off with acetone, and the glitch began to appear much less frequently, but still remained. Most likely you will have to buy an ultrasonic bath, some detergents, and somehow wash it there.

Second, black"Electronics-409D" appeared in 2014, similar to the first (white) TV. Unlike him, the TV turned out to be fully functional, with the exception of a planted kinescope. I didn’t want to buy a new kinescope, anyway, it will stand on the shelf most of the time, and I first put my own kinescope from a white TV. He was also shrunken, but not as much as the native black TV. After that, I made a “shoot through” from the cathode to the modulator, and the kinescope began to show almost as brightly as the new one. The backache was done like this: I removed the socket from the kinescope, took a similar socket left over from the disassembly of another TV (Electronics VL-100), and assembled a circuit for shooting through the focusing voltage. I let the kinescope warm up, turned on the power of the TV, and twice for half a second touched the free output of the resistor Rogr (which can be of any value, this is a rudiment from the previous “shooter” that I forgot to remove) the focus resistor slider. The screen immediately lit up with bright light (and this is without accelerating voltage!). I turned off the TV, connected my own socket, turned it on - the picture is a fairy tale! 🙂 Further, it turned out that the reason for the almost complete depletion of emission from the native kinescope was an increased supply voltage. The power supply gave out 10.9 volts instead of the prescribed 10.5. In the white TV, apparently, the voltage was always normal, so the kinescope was better preserved there, although not by much. I set it to 10.50 V, completely adjusted the alignment, as a result, the image became even a little better than that of the white Electronics-409 with a new kinescope.

Interestingly, not a single bad electrolytic capacitor was found in any TV. Only in the “white” I replaced one electrolyte in vain, but it turned out not to be the case. All K50-35s produced by Kation have lived successfully for more than 20 years.

Schematic diagram of the TV set "Electronics-409D" (PIT-16-6)

Radio channel.

SKM-30-1 (A1.2) and SK-D-30-1 (A1.1) are used as SC, using connectors installed on the AI cross-board (Fig. 3.28). The IF signal from the block A1 .2 (contact XS5/8) through the contact XS6/8 is fed to the input of the UPCHiZ block (A1.3)

Through the terminating resistor R2, the IF signal comes to the preliminary UPCH, made on transistors VT1, VT2, which compensates for the attenuation of the filter Z1 (SAW), which is its load; elements L1, R9, L2, R10 - matching. The main amplification of the IF signal is carried out by the D2 chip; it also performs synchronous detection of the IF signal (reference circuit L3, C12, R17) and preamplification of the video signal.

Video channel.

From the output of the D1 / 11 chip through R19 and contact XS6 / 4, a positive polarity video signal is fed to a variable resistor R15 (A2). So that when adjusting the contrast, the brightness of the image does not change, the conclusions of R15 are made equipotential in direct current using a divider 2R18, 2R14.

The VU circuit on the 2VT2 transistor is similar to those considered: 2C11 - RF correction capacitor, elements 2VD3, 2C15, 2R31 serve to limit the kinescope current.

A quenching device is made on the 2VT3 (OK) transistor: personnel (from the 1VT2 emitter) and line (from the ZT1 / 10 output) reverse pulses, passing through it, increase the potential of the 2VT2 emitter, which ensures its closing.

Sound channel.

The selection of the signal of the second IF sound is carried out in the microassembly El (A1.3) (see Fig. 3.28) using a piezoceramic filter located in it; signal clipping, amplification and frequency detection also take place here (a piezoceramic filter inside the microassembly is also used as a reference circuit).

The audio signal is removed from the output E1 / 6 and through the capacitor 15 is fed to the output of the block - contact XS6 / 2. The operational volume control (see. Fig. 3.27) is a variable resistor 2R12. The 2R9 trimmer resistor allows you to change the gain of the 2D1 chip.

The cascade on the transistor 2VT1 (OK) generates a voltage of +9 V to power the 2D1 microcircuit.

ARU device.

A feature of the circuit is the use of a peak detector; a control voltage proportional to the amplitude of the video signal is allocated on the capacitor SP (A 1.3) and is fed to the first two cascades of the UPCH located

inside the chip Dl (A1.3). The AGC voltage with a delay, which is determined by the position of the slider R16 (A1.3), is allocated to the capacitor C4 (A1.3) and fed to the base VT2 (OK), from the emitter of which through the divider R3, R1 enters the base VT1 to adjust the gain of the preliminary UPCHI. With an even higher video signal level, the voltage at C4 (A1.3) becomes less than the voltage at the connection point of the resistors R8 and R11, the VT4 EP opens, and the AGC voltage is supplied to the SC.

Synchronization channel.

The video signal of negative polarity from the XS6 / 3 contact through the noise suppression circuit R3, C7, C9, R4, C8 (A1) is fed to pin 9 of the 1D1 microcircuit (amplitude selector input), and also through C10 to the output

1D1/10 (interference selector input).

The selected frame SI from the 1D1/8 output through the 1R20, 1C20 filter and the EC on the 1VT3 transistor with the 1C22 isolation capacitor are fed to the ZGKR for its synchronization. The lowercase SI is used to synchronize the ZGSR located inside the 1D1 chip.

Frame scan block.

On transistors 1VT1, 1VT4, ZGKR is made according to the scheme of an asymmetric multivibrator; the repetition rate of the generated pulses can be changed using a variable resistor 1R25; on the transistor 1VT5, the pre-output stage is made, and on the transistors 1VT6, 1VT7, the output stage of the KR, similar to those previously considered.

The cascade on the 1VT2 transistor serves to supply personnel pulses to the damping device.

Horizontal block.

The repetition rate of horizontal pulses generated by the ZGSR in the 1D1 chip can be changed using the 1R12 resistor. A feature of the APCiF circuit is the use of automatically switched low-pass filter on the elements R7 C12, R8 C13 (A1) according to the presence or absence of synchronism in the system, which allows you to combine high noise immunity with

wide swath. The same microcircuit is included in the automatic control ring, which provides an earlier arrival of the opening pulse to the base of the output transistor 3VT1 (taking into account the finite time of its switching); the position of the front of the control pulse can be adjusted using R15 (A1) The 3VT2 transistor is a pre-output transistor, line pulses from the 2D 1/3 output come to its base.

Power Supply A5

AC mains voltage is supplied to pins 5-6 of the XP9 connector, then through the fuse FU1, and switch S1 to a step-down transformer T1, after which to a rectifier assembled on diodes VD1-VD4.

The rectified voltage, after filtering by capacitors C2, C3, is fed to the emitter of the regulating transistor. The stabilizer is made on transistors VT1-VT3. Elements R1, R2, R4, R6, VD5 form a balanced bridge, the diagonal of which includes a DC amplifier on a transistor VT1. When the bridge is unbalanced from the collector of the transistor VT1, the amplified voltage is applied through the emitter follower (VT2) and the limiting resistor R5 to the base of the transistor VT3. Depending on the sign of the change in the output voltage, the transistor VT3 changes its conductivity in such a way as to compensate for the output voltage drift and restore the balance of the bridge. Trimmer resistor R4 sets the initial bridge mode. The stabilization circuit also performs the functions of protecting the power supply from short circuits. In the event of a short circuit or severe overload, the output voltage drops and the Zener diode VD5 closes, which also leads to the closing of the regulating transistor VT3.

Capacitor C4, when the power supply is turned on, ensures a smooth increase in the output voltage of the stabilizer to the nominal value.

When the TV is powered from a DC source, a voltage of + 12 V is supplied through contacts 1-2 of the XP "9 connector and switch S1 to the emitter of the transistor VT3. At the same time, the filter capacitors C2, C3 and the rectifier bridge are disconnected from the stabilizer. The R9VD6 circuit is used to start the stabilizer and protect it in case of incorrect connection of the polarity of the constant source.

At the moment a positive voltage appears on pin 7 of the A5.1 board, the regulating transistor VT3 is closed and the positive voltage, passing through the resistor R9 and the VD6 diode, begins to charge the power filter capacitors installed on the A1-A3 boards. As these capacitors charge, the voltage rises, reaches the breakdown voltage of the Zener diode VD5, and the stabilization circuit begins to work.
