Treatment with pine cones

Pine is one of the most common plants in our forests. Its needles and resin, not without reason called resin, have been used since ancient times to strengthen the body's defenses, treat beriberi, anemia and many other diseases. In recent years, folk medicines made from pine cones have gained wide popularity. The "fruits" of a coniferous tree contain a huge amount of vitamins, biologically active substances, antioxidants, phytoncides and other useful components. In this article we will talk about the most famous recipes for medicines from pine cones.

Jam

A kilogram of young green cones is poured into 2 liters of cold water and left for a day. Then the infusion is drained, 1 kg of granulated sugar is added and the syrup is boiled, into which the cones are lowered after boiling. The jam is cooked for 1.5-2 hours over low heat. The foam formed when the mixture is boiled should be skimmed off. As a result, the delicacy has a pleasant amber color, a wonderful smell and taste, reminiscent of strawberry jam.

There is another way to make healing jam. It can be cooked according to the five-minute principle, that is, boil the cones in a pre-prepared syrup for 5-7 minutes and let it brew for a day, repeat the whole cycle 2 more times and pour the finished jam into a dry, sterilized container.

Jam from young pine cones is an excellent immunostimulant. Taking just a tablespoon a day can significantly reduce the risk of seasonal colds. In addition, the remedy is used to alleviate the symptoms of polyarthritis and to restore strength after illnesses.

The healing properties of pine cones can work wonders. They slow down destructive processes in brain cells, restore vascular patency, improve motor performance during the rehabilitation period after a stroke.

Using amazing "coniferous pantries" in the form of a sweet honey or jam, the infusion can activate the immune system, lower the level of "bad" cholesterol, and alleviate the course of colds, pneumonia, and tuberculosis.

Resinous green cones are coniferous shoots, which fully mature in two years.. The smelly gifts of nature are characterized by a powerful healing power, since they are a receptacle for:

  • lipids;
  • Gland;
  • Linolenic and oleic acids;
  • monoterpene hydrocarbons;
  • mineral salts;
  • Pinicicrin with a characteristic taste of bitterness.

Young specimens are rich in tannin, bioflavonoids and other nutrients. They also contain vitamins B and C, K and P, carotene and essential oils. Note that even in the XVIII century it was known about their balsamic and antiscorbutic properties. Pine cones (green, young!) in folk medicine take a leading place in getting rid of the consequences of a stroke.

Official medicine has confirmed that infusions and balms, decoctions and honey from cones help in the treatment and prevention of:

  • bronchopulmonary anomalies;
  • stroke;
  • gastrointestinal disorders;
  • Colds and viral diseases;
  • Arthritis.

Young dried (using a special technology!) cones are especially highly valued. Traditional healers often call them pine buds. Various medicinal formulations are prepared from them, which are valuable:

  • Natural mineral-vitamin complex;
  • Diuretic manifestations;
  • Pain-relieving, antiseptic and expectorant properties.
Pine cones, having amazing healing properties and rich aroma, are successfully used for inhalations, healing fonts, foot and hand baths.

When to start collecting cones

Folk healers use both old and young specimens to get rid of various ailments, including cell death during a stroke. Young cones throughout the summer period remain green in color, their scales are tightly fastened to each other.

When to collect? It is better to “hunt” for them in May-June. Which ones to choose? The most popular are shoots 1-4 cm long.

And especially valuable, the most suitable for treatment are not aged cones collected on the day of Ivan Kupala. Please note that the shoots of the first year should be soft, easily cut with a knife, and have a pleasant coniferous aroma. If you don’t have a knife with you, but you want to make sure that the cones are suitable, then you can try to bite them, scratch them with your fingernail.

Since coniferous gifts have a beneficial effect on blood vessels, they are often interested in when it is most optimal to collect and harvest pine cones from a stroke. Take a bucket and go to the forest in June-September. At this time, the cones are rich in tannins (it is these substances that prevent the death of brain cells), but still remain closed, full of seeds.

When collecting pine gifts, we advise you to look closely at the trees - if the pine is sick, damaged by pests, then it is better not to collect medicinal fruits from it. Also keep in mind that there are female and male pine shoots. It is the reddish female seedlings that have healing qualities - they are located on the tops of the branches.

Medicines from cones for the prevention of stroke

"Forest healers" are able to protect against a stroke - a "quick illness" characterized by a pathogenic circulatory disorder in the brain, which is manifested by changes in a neurological nature. Various alcohol preparations are especially valuable, since alcohol contributes to the "disclosure" of the properties of tannins.

Also, preparations using alcohol strengthen the heart muscle, eliminate arrhythmias in its work, improve memory, strengthen the walls of blood vessels, eliminate hum (ringing) in the ears, and improve the functioning of the visual organs. It is not difficult to prepare healing tinctures from pine cones from an insidious stroke on your own.

So, we protect ourselves from a stroke with tinctures:

In hospitals, there is also such a recipe for infusion of pine cones after a stroke: grind 10 greenish hearths (female) with a meat grinder to a puree state, pour alcohol (vodka) and leave the composition to “ripen” in a dark place. After 10 days, filter, add an alcohol tincture of verbena or sweet clover (1: 1), take a teaspoon three times / day.

Medicines from cones for stroke

There are many recipes for the use of "coniferous pantries" that enjoy great popular fame in stroke. It is known that with such a serious illness, the process of cell destruction does not stop during the recovery period. The tannins present in the cones perfectly solve this problem, reduce the number of destroyed cells at times. Medicinal preparations prepared on the basis of cones are used in rehabilitation therapy, contribute to the return of speech, improve impaired coordination of movements, and have a beneficial effect on the general condition of the body. We wrote about tinctures for alcohol above. It is no less easy to prepare an infusion on water, honey and even jam.

Cooking water infusion and honey

  • Infusion of pine shoots on the water. Rinse 5-7 coniferous shoots in running water, cut into small pieces, put in a saucepan, add 1 liter of cool water and put on fire. Wait until it boils and then simmer on a minimum flame for another quarter of an hour. Insist in a warm place, consume 100-150 ml three times / day.
  • "Medoc" from pine cones. Pour a liter of slightly warm water 80 pcs. green cones, boil for 20 minutes, insist 24 hours. Pour 1 kg of sugar into the future delicacy and cook for another 1.5 hours - until the mixture becomes thick. Add 5-7 drops of lemon juice, pour into prepared (preferably sterilized) jars. Store (permanently!) in a cool dark place.

Making healing jam

Method 1. For a 0.5 liter jar of young cones, you will need 2 cups of water and 1 kg of granulated sugar. Rinse the cones, pour water (preferably spring or bottled) and boil for 15-20 minutes. The apical shoots should become softer, but not lose their shape. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bumps from the boiling syrup. Add sugar to it and continue to cook for another 25 minutes. Pour hot fragrant emerald composition into glass containers, seal tightly.

Method 2. For this recipe, the buds should be more ripe, but not yet opened. Cook sugar syrup from 10 cups of water and 1 kg of granulated sugar. Put 2.1 kg of green raw materials into boiling syrup and cook until the cones begin to open and the composition becomes thick. The foam that forms during cooking does not need to be removed. This jam can be cooked in 3-4 doses: bring to a boil, boil for 4-5 minutes, set aside for 5-6 hours, repeat the process again.

It is important not to forget that although the cooked pine product has a pleasant aftertaste, amazing aroma, it is not a delicacy, but a rather strong medicinal composition. It is important to adhere to the dosage: to improve the condition for any ailments - 2 tbsp. spoons / day, for prevention - 1 tbsp. spoons / day. For children, the dose is halved.

A walk along the forest will cheer up, fill you with strength, help get rid of stress, forget about irritability.

It is believed that the beneficial properties of the plant are concentrated in the seeds. Pine accumulates in reserve biologically active substances, keeping them from spring to winter in cones.

Phytoncides, tannins, vitamins, essential oils, selenium and magnesium, iron - these are the "treasures" of these small coniferous pantries.

Traditional medicine experts say that pine cones can be used in the treatment of respiratory diseases, diseases of the joints, to cleanse the body.

Since ancient times, green pine cones have been used as a remedy for scurvy.

The components contained in this natural medicine help to increase immunity, help to avoid infection with tuberculosis. These properties of cones are most widely known.

If you are going to use folk remedies for treatment, do not forget about the general rules:

  • consult with your doctor;
  • learn about the benefits and contraindications;
  • do not use folk remedies in acute periods of the disease;
  • use with caution in the treatment of children and people over 60 years of age;
  • start with small doses, gradually increasing the amount and carefully observing the reaction of the body;
  • do not take the same herbal preparations for a long time;
  • take breaks;
  • be aware of the dangerous consequences of self-medication.

Decoctions, tinctures, syrups and jam from pine cones have anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, immunomodulatory healing properties. They can be used for various diseases:

  • cough;
  • bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • pulmonary tuberculosis;
  • gastritis;
  • stomach ulcer;
  • joint diseases.

In folk medicine, both old and young cones are used for medicinal purposes - the latter remain green, unopened all summer.

Usually they collect young specimens from 1 to 4 cm long in May-June (the optimal time for the middle lane). They should be easy to cut with a knife, be soft. In "field" conditions, to check such cones, they scratch with a fingernail or try to bite through.

Give preference to dense, resinous and sticky buds. These are females. They are easy to identify by ribbed scales.

Healers advise to collect formed, but not yet aged pine fruits on the day of Ivan Kupala. It is believed that at this time their healing properties are maximum.

Solid green specimens can be used to make tinctures. If you are going to use the tincture for stroke prevention or in the recovery period after a stroke, go to the forest from June to September. The buds will already be ripe, have accumulated tannins (they play a key role in the fight against brain cell death), but will not open and lose their seeds.

Cones age a year after formation: they darken, change color and open. By this time, you will no longer find seeds in their hard cavities.

Pay attention to the tree itself. Sometimes pines are affected by pests. It is better not to use medicinal raw materials from such trees.

It can be concluded that treatment with pine cones is an effective, inexpensive and safe method. Try, heal and be healthy!

Pine is the personification of harmony and beauty in relation to other trees. The tree has a very even trunk and long needles instead of leaves. The tree itself can reach over 30 meters in height. Pine cones, the medicinal properties of which are quite diverse, have a slightly ovoid-oblong shape. Pine is the most popular tree for a person, it is worth noting at least the New Year and Christmas holidays, which we all love to meet not only with friends and relatives, but also with this coniferous tree. The forests where they grow have phytoncides emitted by pines in the air, due to which there are practically no harmful microbes within a radius of 25 meters from the trees. Due to this property, pine is actively used for medical purposes.

Pine is very common not only in Russia, but throughout the world. A large number of people know the beneficial properties of pine cones and the trees themselves, so they try to get out into the forest as often as possible and relax, breathe in this unique, rich air. Thanks to this rest, a beneficial effect on the lungs and bronchi occurs.

It is worth noting that pine as a tree is very valuable; almost everything can be used in it for medical purposes: pine resin, needles, bark, pollen and buds. But among this, cones (young) are of particular interest. Pine buds are harvested mainly in early spring, before they have had time to bloom, some do it in the winter, but still the best quality is the collection carried out in early spring. After they are collected, drying takes place. Young cones are fundamentally different from needles, which are consumed raw and can be harvested year-round.

In fact, no one paid attention to the beneficial properties of the cones, and did not even suspect it until the moment when employees in American zoos noticed that various animals like to eat them very much. After that, tests were carried out that proved that a lot of useful medicinal substances accumulate in the cones over the whole summer, which are subsequently preserved in them. Moreover, all the useful substances that remain in the cones are there in a completely natural form. They retain not only a lot of vitamins, but also a special kind of tannins and phytoncides.

It turned out that tannins are of great interest to scientists. During experiments on laboratory mice, unexpected results were obtained. It turns out that this type of tannins prevent the death of brain cells. And as you know, at a time when a person is experiencing a stroke, due to circulatory disorders, it is the brain cells that die. But during the resumption of blood flow, even more of them die. This is due to the fact that there is a certain kind of enzymes that play a huge role in the normal functioning of cells, and if you block this enzyme in any way, then the cell will remain alive. Thus, scientists have found that tannin copes with the blocking of these enzymes. But so far no drugs have been invented on this basis, and pine cone treatment occurs mainly with the help of folk recipes. It is very important to know when and how to collect them correctly.

The first thing you need to know is that you need to collect only those cones that have not yet had time to open up, it is in them that all the beneficial properties of green pine cones are fully manifested. Based on differences in climatic conditions, they must be collected from May to the end of August. By the way, it is in the last month of summer that they accumulate the maximum amount of useful substances. Thus, the size of the cones should be about 4 cm. While you are collecting them, be sure to pay attention to their appearance and the condition of the trees. Pine should not have any insect damage or rot. It is impossible to collect cones from such a tree. With regard to storage, the period should in no case exceed more than 18 months, the room should be well ventilated. If the cones are stored longer, they will begin to lose their unique beneficial properties.

Pine cones, whose healing properties are truly unique, have already become quite firmly established in household use, but some still do not know what exactly they can treat and how it is done. The most common mistake is that people start their treatment by collecting mature buds, or even those that are already two or three years old. Naturally, in such a product there are no seeds or nutrients. Pine cone treatment should be carried out exclusively at the stage of maturation, still green buds, which continue to feed themselves at the expense of the pine and its roots. It is for such that people come to the forest who intend to cook jam or a healing decoction in the future. Not uncommon is honey from cones, while in its consistency and appearance, no one can distinguish it from any other. In addition to its unique taste and aroma, it has bactericidal properties, making it an excellent remedy for problems with the stomach and respiratory organs.

The application occurs in a different form, it can be: jam, tinctures or honey. In alternative medicine, cones are used for various types of diseases: pneumonia, colds, low hemoglobin, beriberi, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial diseases and as a cough medicine. The extract, which is made from pine cones, is a very good antioxidant.

Everyone should be able to make jam from pine cones. The properties of such a medicinal and tasty product are quite diverse. In winter, having such jam constantly at hand, you can not only protect yourself from the negative effects of certain types of viral and infectious diseases, but also significantly strengthen your immunity. In this way, you will be able to create a unique protective barrier. As an added bonus, it is also worth noting the positive effect of the product on the digestive and cardiovascular systems.

The recipe for making jam is quite simple and does not require any complicated steps:

1. First you need to sort out the cones and remove excess debris, after which you need to rinse them.

2. If you come across large cones, then you should cut them in half, while small ones can be left as they are.

3. After all the manipulations, it is necessary to prepare a capacious pan in which to put the cones and pour drinking water so that the liquid covers the main ingredient by about 2 cm.

4. Then you need to put it all on fire and bring to a boil.

5. After everything has boiled for several minutes, you need to add sugar and wait until the mass boils again, and make the fire quieter.

7. After that, it is necessary to put out the fire and remove all the bumps from the broth.

8. As a result, you get a poisonous red jam, it must be drained into pre-sterilized jars, and then rolled up with lids.

As a result, you can get a unique delicate taste and smell of jam, which leaves a delicate aftertaste. By the way, it is recommended to use it with tea, which will only enhance the therapeutic effect.

To prepare the tincture, only green pine cones are taken. The medicinal properties of such a drink are due to the disinfectant, deodorizing and antimicrobial effect. When using such a tincture, immunity is noticeably strengthened, along with the removal of toxins and toxins from the body and the restoration of microflora. Such drinks are relevant for various diseases that are associated with the respiratory organs of an infectious and catarrhal nature. Tinctures may include needles, buds, and pine cones. The medicinal properties of all coniferous products have a very good expectorant effect, due to which the respiratory tract is cleansed and sputum is removed. It is worth noting that tinctures are relevant as a healing agent for wounds and ulcers. And in the case of bronchial asthma, they are used as a remedy for asthma.

In general, such tinctures are multifunctional agents that have a very strong effect for strengthening immunity, treating stomach ulcers, gastritis, and oral ulcers.

For the tincture, you need to have pine needles, pollen and / or pine cones. The medicinal properties of these products have been proven, and you can use all three ingredients at the same time, or any one at will. Although these products are basic, you can also add some medicinal herbs at your discretion.

Quite popular is the balm of cones (young, green) to which tinctures of chestnut and sweet clover fruits and verbena tincture were added, and the ratio should be 5 to 1. Thus, you get a unique balm that can treat and prevent thrombophlebitis.

The second most popular is the following recipe, in which the base is a tincture of pollen or pine cones, it must be taken in an amount of 0.5 l, then add 0.1 l of honey. And the same amount of aloe juice. Next, such a mixture must be shaken well, closed and put for 24 hours in a dark place. The resulting balm is indispensable in the treatment of lung diseases and the general maintenance of immunity.

Naturally, such tinctures are made using ethyl alcohol, but they should not be abused. To prevent diseases and strengthen immunity, it is enough to drink 1 teaspoon of tincture once a day. In the case of treatment, it is necessary to increase the dose by 3 times and use 3 times in a spoon during the day 30 minutes before meals. The treatment period is 20 days. For the greatest effectiveness of the tincture, it is recommended to drink it with hot tea.

Thus, we can say with confidence that along with the majority of widely used medicinal herbs, the pine cone also occupies an honorable place. The properties of this product have been proven and are widely used. Anyone should have a pine cone remedy in their home medicine cabinet to keep their health in good shape. Due to the large list of diseases that medicines made from pine products cope with, they will remain relevant for a long time.

Pine is considered the most common plant in the world and many are familiar with its beneficial and medicinal properties, including pine cones. A visit to a pine forest always has a beneficial effect on the whole organism. Many people, going for a walk in the spring in a pine forest, try to stock up on pine cones. Young green pine cones can be used to treat not only cough and respiratory diseases, but also to treat other diseases.

In pine, from a medicinal point of view, all parts of the tree are a valuable material. For treatment, you can use everything: tree bark, needles, buds, pollen. Of particular interest among all these components of the tree are cones, both green and already ripe red.

When and who first began to use pine cones for medicinal purposes, history has not preserved. But the fact that a person noticed their beneficial properties a long time ago is for sure. Decoctions, infusions are traditionally prepared from cones, alcohol tincture is made, tasty and healthy honey and jam are cooked.

Pine is known for its volatile properties. Air samples taken where pines grow showed that pathogenic organisms in the air are 10 times less than in a birch forest. Therefore, the best sanatoriums for the treatment of respiratory diseases are always located in the pine forest, where spruce and pine trees grow. In terms of chemical composition, pine buds contain:

Monoterpene compounds;

lipid compounds,

Bioflavonoids;

organic acids;

Vitamins C, group B, carotene;

Essential oils;

Phytoncides;

Tannins.

Contained in cones selenium, iron, magnesium.

The highest content of nutrients in green cones.

Vitamin C, in addition to protecting the immune system, is involved in the processes of hematopoiesis, in the functioning of the nervous system, and protects against scurvy.

B vitamins are involved in many metabolic processes, the nervous system, and improve brain function.

Carotene, from which vitamin A is produced in the body, is important for maintaining muscle tone, for maintaining vision, and is involved in strengthening the immune system. It is one of the powerful antioxidant vitamins.

All the healing and beneficial properties of pine cones are due to their chemical composition and have long been used in folk medicine. They are also recognized by official medicine. Due to their unique chemical composition, pine cones have the following properties:

expectorant;

Diuretic;

Antimicrobial;

Anti-inflammatory;

Painkillers;

bactericidal;

antirheumatic;

Tonic;

Antiscorbutic;

Immunostimulating;

Antiseptic.

All these medicinal properties have a very beneficial effect on the body. Medicinal preparations based on pine cones are very effective for the treatment of:

Colds (ARVI, ARI);

Avitaminosis, including scurvy;

Sore throat;

Bronchial asthma;

pneumonia;

bronchitis;

Polyarthritis, gout and arthritis;

Rheumatism;

Low hemoglobin.

Pine is famous for its volatile properties and, therefore, can inhibit the growth and development of pathogenic bacteria. Decoctions of cones can be used for inhalation and taking therapeutic baths, taken orally.

Green pine cones are young pine cones that develop from pine buds. Pine buds appear at the end of winter and at the very beginning of spring. After flowering, young green buds develop from them, which at the beginning of growth are very small, no larger than a fingernail.

Gradually, the cones grow and gain their healing power. Young pine cones are used to make jam, pine honey, and an alcohol tincture.

All preparations that can be prepared from such cones have a powerful healing effect. They are part of the chest collection for the treatment of coughs, diseases of the upper respiratory tract, decoctions and infusions are used for influenza and viral diseases, sore throats. For adults and children, an excellent cough remedy is a decoction of young cones with milk.

They are taken for diseases of the joints, to restore strength and increase vitality.

Extracts from young green cones are widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries in the production of lotions, creams, toothpaste, mouth rinses and other cosmetic products. They help to improve the condition of the skin, relieve inflammation.

In folk medicine, green cones are even used to treat tuberculosis.

In order for young green cones to have medicinal properties, they must first pour and acquire healing power. Therefore, very small young cones should not be collected. You need to wait until they acquire some rigidity, but still remain soft inside.

Depending on the region, this may be the end of May, June. In some places, for example, in the Urals or Siberia, young pine cones can be collected in early July. By the end of summer, in August, the maximum amount of valuable substances accumulates in pine cones.

Green pine cones, as a medicine, should reach a size of about 4 centimeters. When collecting, you need to pay attention to their appearance: they should not have any visible damage by insects, rot or other traces indicating damage and inappropriate quality of the cones.

For medicinal purposes, they need to be collected early in the morning. At this time, sap flow begins, which fills the cones with healing properties.

In June-July, the green cones become coarser and woody.

For cooking jam, such cones are already of little use. You need to collect them until they can be cut with a knife and the middle of the cones is still soft.

Collected cones are used to make jam, pine honey, fresh tinctures. If the cones are collected for the preparation of decoctions and infusions, then they must be dried. You need to dry the cones in the shade, in a ventilated room, in an electric dryer or oven at a temperature of 40 degrees.

Dried young buds become dark. You need to store them in a linen bag, cardboard box or paper bag. Shelf life is one and a half years.

To prepare a medicinal tincture, you can also collect harder cones, but by increasing the infusion time. The healing properties of such a tincture are still preserved.

At the end of August, September, the cones begin to darken and turn brown-red. By the middle of winter, in March, seeds will ripen in them.

Red pine cones are an excellent remedy for treating and cleaning blood vessels. They are also used after a stroke.

By the time of maturation, they accumulate a large content of useful substances: vitamins, essential oils, tannins. All these components give them the ability to stop the death of brain cells, which is often inherent in the post-stroke state.

Studies have shown that the tannins contained in red cones reduce the death of brain cells, cleanse blood vessels and can help cope with the consequences of an illness.

Tincture of red pine cones in folk medicine is used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of cancerous tumors. The addition of pine buds and pine pollen makes the tincture even more effective and healing when used against tumors and other diseases.

The healing properties of pine cones are unique. They can be used to treat a wide range of diseases. Moreover, both young green cones and ripe red ones have healing properties. Pine cones can be used in various forms. It can be decoctions or tincture, jam or honey.

An aqueous infusion of green cones can be used to treat coughs and bronchitis, diseases of the upper respiratory tract, edema, scurvy, rheumatism, gout or arthritis, heart pain, as a hemostatic agent.

To prepare the infusion you need to take:

1 tablespoon cones

2 cups boiling water

Brew cones with boiling water, cover with a towel and leave for 12 hours. Drink infusion 3-4 times a day.

The decoction can also be taken for colds, coughs, bronchitis, joint diseases and other diseases.

To prepare a decoction, pour 10 grams of cones into a glass of hot water and put in a water bath. Boil for 10-15 minutes and remove from stove. Cool and take 1/3 cup 2-3 times a day.

When preparing the tincture, pine buds and/or pollen can be added. The addition of herbs is allowed if the tincture is prepared for a specific disease.

Sort out the collected young green pine cones, remove all debris (adhering needles, bark). Cut into several pieces and put in a jar. Vodka is taken at the rate of 1 part of cones and 10 parts of vodka.

Insist in a dark place at room temperature for 3 weeks. Shake the jar periodically during infusion. After insisting, strain the tincture, squeezing the cones well. Pour into a dark glass bottle.

Take tincture from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon 3 times a day before meals.

In the neighboring garden, right along the fence with us, there is a large pine tree. It has been growing here for decades, and the builders did not uproot it. The neighbors wanted to cut down a tree at one time, but it was painfully troublesome to mess around with all this, and the people were no longer young.

So the old pine stands in its place. A third of its branches are located above our site, cones around - apparently invisible. Many of them have just gone into the ground. It is good to throw a dozen of them into a fire on the grill to give a special forest flavor to fish and meat. The fire is burning - cones are crackling.

Recently it became interesting, is it possible to use pine cones for good on the site, if they already exist? I searched, read and found - many summer residents use them as mulch.

Mulching

Unlike the usual wood mulch, pine cones have an increased resin content. Thanks to it, they better repel water, convert large streams of falling water into drops, reduce soil erosion under them due to the effects of water and wind. This is an excellent heat-insulating material - in winter, under such flooring, plants will be warm, and in summer, on the contrary, cool. As a result, they will not suffer from freezing or overheating.

In addition to the advantages listed above, pine cones retain moisture well in the soil and effectively protect it from direct sunlight.

Other use cases:

  1. Pine cones can be used as drainage when planting hydrangeas, rhododendrons, coniferous garden plants. They can also mulch the trunk circles of these plants. Azalea and blueberries will also not mind such a mulch.
  2. Cones and coniferous litter are also suitable for mulching roses. Only under a layer of such a litter, you first need to scatter a layer of wood ash (to neutralize high acidity). Such a shelter is not only practical, but also looks elegant!
  3. Pine cones are suitable for kindling a barbecue or stove (with frequent use, the chimney may become clogged due to resin content), they will give additional heat and a pleasant forest aroma. They have long been used in Russia for kindling a samovar.
  4. Pine cone jam. With the advent of May, collect young pine cones, cut them in half, fill with boiled water and let it brew for a day. Then add sugar to the composition in a ratio of 1 to 1 and put everything on a slow fire for 2 hours (after boiling). If available, be sure to supplement the contents with lemon juice and cinnamon. As a result, you should get a very tasty brown jam with a coniferous aroma of a liquid consistency. It is especially recommended for people with reduced immunity (for example, with a cold), as well as for blood thinning. One minus - it ends quickly!
  5. You can lubricate the most beautiful cones with PVA glue and evenly sprinkle with glitter (shiny powder that can be purchased at flower shops). You will get wonderful Christmas decorations.

What you can not use pine cones:

  • No need to add cones to the compost. They rot very slowly, and the bactericidal properties of the resin negatively affect beneficial microorganisms and worms.
  • Do not use cones to sprinkle pine paths. They may look beautiful, but slipping on them (especially after rain) and breaking a leg or arm out of the blue is worthless.
  • Moreover, do not lay out a barbecue area or a site near the house with pine cones, since the slightest spark is enough to ignite them in dry summer weather. Everything will flare up at once and a fire will start.

Dark spots on pine cones may indicate the presence of a fungus. Such specimens can only be burned.

The beneficial properties of pine have been known since time immemorial. Its needles can purify the air, because it is rich in phytoncides (substances produced by plants to protect themselves from pests). Pine phytoncides are so strong that they kill Koch's bacillus, the causative agent of tuberculosis, as well as E. coli.

A walk along the forest will cheer up, fill you with strength, help get rid of stress, forget about irritability.

It is believed that the beneficial properties of the plant are concentrated in the seeds. Pine accumulates in reserve biologically active substances, keeping them from spring to winter in cones.

Phytoncides, tannins, vitamins, essential oils, selenium and magnesium, iron - these are the “treasures” of these small coniferous pantries.

  • consult with your doctor;
  • learn about the benefits and contraindications;
  • do not use folk remedies in acute periods of the disease;
  • use with caution in the treatment of children and people over 60 years of age;
  • start with small doses, gradually increasing the amount and carefully observing the reaction of the body;
  • do not take the same herbal preparations for a long time;
  • take breaks;
  • be aware of the dangerous consequences of self-medication.

Decoctions, tinctures, syrups and jam from pine cones have anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, immunomodulatory healing properties. They can be used for various diseases:

  • cough;
  • bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • pulmonary tuberculosis;
  • gastritis;
  • stomach ulcer;
  • joint diseases.

Gathering Secrets

In folk medicine, both old and young cones are used for medicinal purposes - the latter remain green, unopened all summer.

Usually they collect young specimens from 1 to 4 cm long in May-June (the optimal time for the middle lane). They should be easy to cut with a knife, be soft. In “field” conditions, to check such cones, they scratch with a fingernail or try to bite through.

You can use the beneficial properties of pine cones in different ways. You will be surprised how many options there are for their use in traditional medicine.

Mature cones in decoctions and tinctures

Tinctures are prepared with alcohol or vodka. Decoctions are recommended for use if alcohol is contraindicated. You can cook them with water or milk. Used for bronchitis and pneumonia, colds, cough, pulmonary tuberculosis.

In the East, decoctions of green pine cones are considered a good way to cleanse the skin. If within 10-14 days you drink a glass of decoction daily, irregularities and rashes on the face will disappear, a blush will appear, small mimic wrinkles will be smoothed out.

To cleanse the skin, you can prepare a decoction with flower honey (only 1 tsp per glass is enough).

Alcohol tincture is taken for the prevention and treatment of strokes, but not in the initial stage of the disease.

Contraindications

Like other herbal medicines, decoctions and infusions from green and mature pine cones have contraindications. The main ones are kidney diseases, as well as:

  • hepatitis;
  • pregnancy;
  • age (under 7 and over 60).

Individual intolerance will add to the contraindications listed above.

Large doses should be avoided. Otherwise, you may experience a headache or symptoms due to inflammation of the stomach.

Attention! The benefits of medicinal decoctions will not replace the drugs prescribed by the doctor. Use natural remedies with caution. Don't forget to consult a specialist. Self-medication can lead to unpleasant consequences.

  1. To prepare the tincture, you will need 5 mature cones. Wash them and cut them up.

For the prevention of stroke, take 1 tsp. every morning after meals. In the post-stroke period, it is recommended to take it three times a day. The benefits of using this infusion will be only with prolonged use: at least six months.

I would like to warn against the thoughtless use of tincture. Remember that only a doctor can confirm the medicinal properties of the tincture.

  2. It is recommended to insist 10 days in a dark place at a temperature of about 20 degrees.

Infusion for joint pain

  1. To improve joint mobility, it is recommended to take an infusion prepared according to the following recipe: fill a three-liter jar with 1/2 chopped young cones, add 400 g of granulated sugar, pour cooled boiled water. Until the fermentation stops, you need to shake the jar several times a day. Take one tbsp. l. half an hour before meals.
  2. An infusion of opened old cones can be prepared overnight. Pour boiling water over no more than two large cones so that the water covers them a little, wrap them up and leave them overnight. Drink the drug 20-30 minutes before breakfast. Drinking infusion with joint disease is necessary for about 2 months.

syrup for cough

Jam and syrup made from green pine cones, although pleasant in taste, are a remedy. Therefore, it is recommended not to feast on them, but to take them for colds, coughs, pneumonia and bronchitis. These natural sweets have excellent expectorant properties.

Making syrup is easy. Young cones collected in the spring, cut, put in a jar, sprinkling each layer with sugar. It is better to store the syrup in the refrigerator.

For children with a cold, give 1 tsp, but it is better to start with small doses. Do not forget about contraindications for children under 7 years of age.

Jam

Jam from pine cones is prepared in the same way as from fruit. Just don't try to cook as much as possible. 2-3 liters per family is enough for the winter-autumn period, when there is a risk of contracting the flu or a cold. Using 1 tsp. with a glass of tea, you will strengthen the immune system.
