Cleaning of reservoirs from silt. We clean the pond from duckweed and various contaminants. Cleaning methods, tips and tricks

Description: duckweed needs no special introduction. Everyone who has been near lakes, ponds or old ditches with water in the summer has seen this plant covering the surface of the water with a dense emerald carpet.
Several types of duckweed, which are members of the duckweed family, are widespread throughout the world, including Russia.

These are small plants floating on the surface or in the water column, consisting of fronds - leaf-shaped stems, fastened several pieces together, from which a single short filamentous root extends. At the base of the leaf there is a lateral pocket in which a tiny inflorescence can develop, consisting of two staminate and one pistillate flowers. In natural reservoirs, duckweeds rarely bloom. Flowers have a simple structure: stamens consist of only one stamen, and pistils have one pistil; there are no petals or sepals in such flowers. During warm period time, the plant reproduces vegetatively, with the help of young fronds that separate from the mother plant. Duckweed winters in the form of buds, sinking to the bottom along with a dead plant.

There are usually two types of duckweed Lesser duckweed(L. minor) - see picture on the left and Three-lobed duckweed(L. trisulca) - see picture on the right

Lesser duckweed inhabits many water bodies and multiplies extremely rapidly. The most common pond plant with flat elliptical leaves 3-4.5 mm long, floating on the surface of the water.

Three-lobed duckweed grows relatively weakly, lives in the water column and rises to the surface during flowering. Differs in green translucent spoon-shaped leaves 5-10 mm long. Leaves long time interconnected, forming balls floating in the water column and floating to the surface during flowering.

Duckweed strongly branches and forms a blanket of small bright green leaves with one root at the bottom on the surface of the water. Very rarely flowers appear in May-June.

duckweed, or common polyroot- Lemna rolurhyza = Spirodela rolurhyza

The multi-root is not very common in the same reservoirs where two types of duckweed grow abundantly.

From the underside of each stalk, which has a rounded ovoid shape, a bunch of reddish or white roots departs. Blooms rarely in May-June. The upper side of the leaf blade is dark green in color, with clearly visible arcuate veins, and the lower side, immersed in water, is purple-purple. Plate up to 6 mm in diameter.

Location: all these types of duckweed are cold-resistant and photophilous. They live in ponds with stagnant or slowly flowing water.

Care: it is necessary to constantly catch part of the population or, by cleaning the water, create conditions that are not conducive to rapid growth.

Reproduction: mostly vegetatively and very quickly. Each stalk, similar to a small leaf, buds off rather quickly new and new parts of the stalks, which, still having a connection with the main stalks, give rise to new young plants.

Species with individuals floating on the surface of the water can completely “drag out” a small reservoir in a short time. Duckweed duckweed and multi-rooted duckweed are especially aggressive. These plants are rarely deliberately brought into the pond. More often they get there with the help of birds, frogs, newts and when transplanting other plants.

It is difficult to completely get rid of duckweed, but its numbers can be limited by driving the plants to one place with a net or a jet of water from a garden hose, and then catching them with the same net. The extracted mass can be used for compost production and as bird feed.

Usage: these plants purify water bodies of carbon dioxide and supply oxygen, serve as food for fish and protect against sun rays. But despite this, you should never deliberately introduce duckweed into a pond, because once it has appeared in your pond, it will be almost impossible to eradicate it. Also, be careful when bringing other plants into the pond - make sure that there are no duckweeds on the plant itself and in the water.

Duckweed serves as food for many fish, protects water from sunlight and flowering. Several grass carp will save the reservoir from an overabundance of its growth, and the fry will hide in its labyrinths ...

Duckweed is the fastest growing aquatic plant and causes many problems for pond owners. It can grow in just a few days, and it is extremely difficult to remove it from the surface of the reservoir, since the duckweed begins to settle again after cleaning. How can you purify water from duckweed quickly and efficiently?

Removing duckweed

First of all, you need to determine the type of plant, since not all green growths in the pond are duckweed, and herbicides do not kill all weed plants. If you are having difficulty classifying a plant, take a sample and consult with an aquatic plant clerk. Then it is necessary to correctly calculate the dosage of the herbicides used - usually for 4000 square meters the surface to be treated requires 1 liter of a well-diluted solution.

A solution that is too concentrated will not get rid of duckweed even faster, but it can significantly harm other inhabitants of the pond.

Dilute the herbicide preparation in water by filling an appropriately sized container and adding the herbicide at a ratio of 50:1. Fill the sprayer with the resulting solution and treat the pond with the preparation, spraying the contents of the sprayer directly onto the duckweed foci. If they dissipate, collect it to the side by moving the duckweed with a hose from a sprayer or any other handy item. This procedure should be repeated every two weeks as new duckweed foci grow.

Herbicides are best applied in late spring as duckweed is at its most vulnerable at this time of year. The use of preparations in the summer significantly lowers the level of oxygen in the pond, which can kill the fish, so if you cannot do without treatment in July-August, you need to take them out of the pond and at the same time destroy all the duckweed. After treatment, fish can be released into the pond after twenty-four hours, so that the pond environment can recover after the application of the herbicide.

To rake the dead duckweed from the surface of the pond, you can use long poles with which the plant moves towards the shore.

After moving the duckweed into the access zone, it must be removed from the pond with a simple rake, collected and sent to compost. Some pond owners use the removed duckweed as mulch under the bushes. garden plants because the layer of duckweed perfectly retains precious moisture in the soil. In addition, light humus can be made from duckweed, which will be maximally saturated with microelements and nutrients. Creative gardeners with design imagination often lay out green decorative patterns in the duckweed garden and decorate them with flowers.

Nowadays, it’s damn fashionable to have a pond at your dacha, because it looks very beautiful and modern. In order for the reservoir to look beautiful and attractive, it is necessary to clean duckweed and other vegetation in time.

You can get rid of unnecessary vegetation in different ways, but so that the inhabitants of the pond do not feel discomfort. Therefore, our pond must be cleared of duckweed and mud, and of mechanical dirt.

To do this, you can choose the means of different production, Italian, German, English, but they all differ in price.

There is more than one way to clean up a pond. In order to select the right cleaning agent, you need to be clear about your requirements. To get rid of organic pollution, you need such a tool:

  1. garbage container;
  2. underwater vacuum cleaner;
  3. specialized reagents;
  4. biological filter;
  5. lamp with ultraviolet light;
  6. net.

So, the pond is cleaned today in four main ways:

  • mechanical,
  • biological,
  • chemical and ultraviolet rays.

The simplest and fairly cheap is the mechanical method of purification. This method consists in the fact that water passes through a specialized container that contains porous materials.

In the form of porous materials, gravel or quartz sand can be used. If this method is used when cleaning a country reservoir, then you can easily remove various organic and mechanical debris, i.e. from duckweed, mud, and various bricks.

Chemical cleaning of the reservoir

Water purification in this way occurs with the help of chemical reagents. Reagents different type produce water purification from mud and duckweed. In addition, water is enriched with oxygen, and the reservoir becomes even more attractive in appearance.

To clean the pond in this way does not require large material costs, effort and your time. Therefore, this method of cleaning is the most common.

We must not forget that there is some danger when cleaning in this way, so you need to use this method very carefully.

Not a small number of released drugs are harmless and then become carbon dioxide and water. But, do not forget, this is chemistry, which may not have a very good effect on human body or animals.

Biological water treatment

In such cleanings, bacteria are used that contribute to the breakdown of various excess organic particles.

With this method of purification, a biological filter is used, which has the form of a container, it is filled with a substance that promotes the development of special organisms (bacteria that purify water). These bacteria live on organic matter that pollute the water.

Such a filter can be purchased at different stores, but its size must be selected and take into account the size of the reservoir, how much duckweed, ooze and various other organic matter. You also need to take into account the living creatures that live in the pond, if they are fish, they must be cleaned quickly, since living inhabitants need pure water.

Cleaning the pond with a purple lamp

Some owners of reservoirs clean it with an ultraviolet lamp. This method is the most efficient.

It works according to this principle:

when hit by an ultraviolet beam, all harmful bacteria and viruses of various kinds are destroyed, thus losing mud, duckweed and many other unnecessary organic substances.

This method has a very significant advantage - when using such a lamp, you do not need to add any chemical elements to the water, because of this, this method has become very popular.

But it is better not to allow your pond to become overgrown with greenery. With the onset of autumn, it is necessary to thin out the vegetation near the coast, it is better to get rid of it with roots and shoots, after which their growth will stop.

If no method suits you, collect the duckweed after a while.

You can draw a conclusion for yourself, it is absolutely not difficult to clean the reservoir at the dacha yourself.

In any garden where plants are grown, watering is absolutely necessary. Our irrigation system is designed in such a way that water is taken from the pond.

Many plant lovers in their garden, which they even launch.
However, stagnant water garden pond leads to the rapid reproduction of algae and duckweed, especially in the hot summer period.

Use chemicals for the fight against duckweed is unsafe. And those who sell require financial costs.
Therefore, we offer "know-how" - our simple and completely harmless mechanical way to remove duckweed from the pond.
Although this method leads only to a temporary victory over the duckweed, it is free and absolutely environmentally friendly. Yes, and the duckweed caught from the pond is then used by us for the benefit of the garden.

The word "know-how" this case should be taken with humor. The business of cleaning the pond is generally a fun affair. Our dog loves to swim, and in this duckweed, can you swim!
Yes, and the use of the pond for its intended purpose becomes very difficult - it is everywhere in the irrigation water, duckweed.
So a method was invented for cleaning the pond from duckweed without chemicals, which, perhaps, will be useful to other gardeners.

Technology for cleaning the pond from duckweed

To clean water from duckweed, a large pole is used, which is placed on the surface of the pond. With another pole, he moves towards the shore. Thus, the layer of duckweed is raked from the surface of the pond.

Then, at the shore, the duckweed is taken out of the pond with an ordinary rake. Then it can be collected in a container and sent to.

We came up with the idea of using duckweed as well. All collected duckweed was laid out under the bushes.
Our assistant Alena, an artistic nature, laid out different figures from duckweed on the ground next to the plants and decorated them with flowers :)

Seriously speaking, the use of duckweed as a mulch in the garden is very useful. The layer of duckweed perfectly retains moisture in the soil. And made with the addition of duckweed
