Ritual of mourning for the drowned Makarka

Before Christianity, pagans believed that this natural phenomenon was caused by drowned people. Rain was caused by those who drowned in summer, autumn and spring, and snow and hail - by those who drowned in winter.

In Polesie, even in our time, they practice calling rain with the help of rituals.

Tools: a long stick, a well, poppy seeds. Poppy seeds are poured into the well, stirred with a stick. The conspiracy must be pronounced with the intonation of grief for the deceased:

Option two, shout a spell with all your might:

Then you need to bow to the well, go into the house and pray for the drowned people. The prayer depends on the religion followed by the person conducting the ritual.

Charm the water

The Slavs like to carry out all kinds of water conspiracies because high strength the actions of these rituals. The person performing the ceremony must collect in two containers:

  • Dew in the morning.
  • Water from a source created by nature.

A spell to make rain is cast when two liquids are poured into one container:

The resulting mixture is poured through the window with the words:

The power of the spell is great when performed correctly. Expect the drought to end in a couple of hours. Otherwise, repeat the ritual until it starts to drizzle. Distinctive feature rain called by this spell: it will not be long and not strong.

Rite made on sheepskin

The ritual is common in Romania. You need to take yarn or a sheepskin item. The person performing the ritual is a piece of dried earth. The sheepskin is soaked in water, wrapped in an apron and, sitting on dry ground, raised to the sky, symbolizing a gift to heaven. Saying the words:

The sheepskin is then wrung out and the water is absorbed into the dry soil. The caster bows three times to the floor and goes home. Rain is expected a week after the ceremony.

River plowing with a plow

This ritual of calling rain is common in Belarus. Women and girls spend time near the river. The more fun and louder the ceremony is, the more productive and faster it will be. it will rain. The girls must plow the river with all kinds of wooden units, while chanting:

There is a second version of the song:

Besides paganism there is orthodox prayers, characterized by great strength. The text below is read at night on the moon at the moment of growth.

Afterwards the worshiper must cross himself. Then say facing the moon:

Prayers that have high strength, so it often starts dripping from the sky when reading. There is no need to stop, you need to read everything to the end.

Required Items

The objects for such rituals are things created by nature itself. Anyone can get them easily. There is a well in any village, and it is not difficult to find a long stick in the forest. Poppy seeds are sold for pennies in gardening stores. Dew and water from the pond. Sheep are not new to everyone Slavic peoples, not only for Romanians. Sometimes all that is needed for a ritual is a person, prayer and his faith in Nature.

Correct execution

All these rituals are united by one condition for their correct performance: the need to believe in what the spellcaster is doing. Always remember, you cannot demand from Nature, you can only ask and beg. There should be no grins or smirks when performing rituals. You need complete dedication with your soul to what you do and say, and then Mother Nature will have mercy and give the person what he asks for.

What to do if it doesn't work out?

The question needs to be asked: did I believe in what I was doing? With all your heart? The purpose of the ceremony should be exclusively bright, kind and pure. There must be an urgent need to resort to extreme measures, like a petition from Nature itself. When performing a ritual, one must not offend Nature and everything that relates to it. Will you help those who offended or hit you? The rules are the same for everyone.

How to drive away the rain and bring in the sun

It is possible for a person to drive away the rain and return the sun. There are situations when there is no time for drought, it rains for days without stopping. Then they resort to a ritual against the rain. You need to say the words:

Say it three times, take soil from the pot (a handful) where the flower grows, pour it outside, cross yourself three times. Soon the rain will stop.

How to make it rain? A question that has never been idle. Moreover, calling rain was previously practiced by our ancestors, and is practiced today (and very successfully!)

Scientists. It is believed that rain can be caused in several ways: physical (today meteorologists do this), magical (or witchcraft) and by influencing the subtle world.

Let's consider these methods.

How to make rain using technology?

Back in the 50s, scientists noticed that if you spray blue in the clouds (it was planned to be used for geodetic marks), the clouds “dissolve” very quickly. This phenomenon began to be investigated. Today, in order to cause rain, airplanes are launched into the sky, which, dispersing cumulus clouds in one place, cause them to rain in another. To do this, clouds are attacked with coarse adsorbent powders: salt, cement. Swelling with moisture, the adsorbent particles rush to the ground, carrying drops of water with them. This can cause very heavy rain. They say that the concentration of the powder is so low that it does not harm people's health.

How to make it rain using magic?

Here, each people had their own way. In Belarus, women plow a river with a plow, while singing ritual songs, which, as scientists have established, were born many centuries ago.

In Macedonia today you can see groups of people who, raising their hands and heads to the sky, perform rhythmic incantations. In them they first call for rain, and then describe how it falls to the Earth.

In Polesie, peasants gathered at a well, stirred the water with long sticks and called upon the drowned man Makarka to rise from the water and water the earth with his tears.

Indian, Altai and other shamans first go into a trance, and then begin to appeal to the spirits, begging them to send life-giving moisture to the Earth.

Folk traditions can be listed endlessly. It is interesting that many of them are being transformed and adjusted to the realities of our time.

One of the most beautiful rituals can sometimes be observed in the villages of the Gagauz and South Slavs. A girl dressed in a dress with a wreath on her head goes around all the village courtyards, and the peasants pour water on her.

There is a ritual of making rain using water.

You need to go out into the wasteland (at midnight, of course), and mark a circle around you with water. After undressing, it is recommended to raise your hands to the sky and walk clockwise along the water trail until it dries. Walking should be accompanied by words aimed at asking nature for rain. There is a description

a similar method that is still used by women in Nepal.

Many peoples believed that it was impossible to cause rain without sacrifices.

The Chechens sacrificed a snake, the Hawaiians - a black rooster. During the drought, men whipped each other until they bled with flexible rods. It was believed that drops of blood would cause rain.

Some experts in magic use the power of runes to call rain. The Isu and Haguz runes are used to freeze fire.

How to make rain using “subtle matter”?

Some psychics claim that by tuning their body and brain to certain vibrations, they come into contact with environment, promoting the formation of clouds and the shedding of rain from them.

Is this true? Do these methods work? What prevents you from trying them in practice?

Moisture falling from heaven ensures the existence of all life on Earth and has always contained magical powers. During droughts, they often resorted to the services of shamans, priests and people endowed with paranormal abilities, because many seemed to know how to make rain.

Magic and rain

Although the concept of “rainmaker” or “weather shaman” appeared in ancient times, it has survived to this day. Many ancient peoples believed in the shaman's ability to cause rain torrents. However, it happened that in case of failure he was killed if he did not provide a good reason to justify himself.

So, according to one of the superstitions, you just need to douse the local witch with water so that it rains; sometimes the unfortunate woman could be dipped into a pond three times, then thrown into a hole, where she continued to be doused with water.

Until recently, people sincerely believed that if, during a drought, 12 buckets of water were poured onto the grave of a drowned or hanged person, it would definitely rain.

In the Belarusian village of Stary Dedin, many traditions have been preserved from ancient times. And this despite the fact that there is a century outside the window information technology, atom and other mental achievements of man. One of them tells how to make it rain: “During the heat, women plow the river. This ritual must be done without clothes. In this case, it is necessary to say certain ritual words-invocations.”

Local residents, many of them have higher education, we are absolutely sure of the effectiveness of this method. They often had to observe how it rained after such a ceremony. This is one of the ancient pagan rituals, which is aimed at summoning the spirit of rain.

In the Ukrainian Polesie in the Zhytomyr region, residents, in order to cause long-awaited precipitation, poured water on each other, saying: “As water pours on you, so that the rain pours on the ground.” The ritual was performed near a well or a river.

In the minds of many Slavic peoples, a special magical power possessed by pregnant women - a symbol of fertility; shepherds who supposedly can influence the “herds” of clouds; priests. Then it was they who were subjected to the dousing ritual.

Often village residents, before , they cleaned abandoned springs, held religious processions around fields and villages, and said special prayers near a pond or well.

In Polesie and among the peoples of the southern Slavs, another way to make rain is known - to stir up an anthill with a stick. The spreading insects symbolized drops of rainwater. At the same time, it was necessary to say: “How many goosebumps, so many drops!”

There was a period when they believed that it was enough to cut and burn the fern (in some regions - heather) and.

By country and continent

Every nationality has its own version of how to make it rain among its beliefs and rituals.

On the shore of the English Black Lake, stone steps are carved, descending into the water and having the ability to cause precipitation. To do this, you need to go down the stone stairs deeper, scoop up water and splash it on the Red Altar (the farthest stone) as a result - rain is guaranteed, even if nothing predicts it.

In France, many people know a simple method for making rain: you need to throw a little flour into the river and shake a hazel tree with a twig. The suffering people sincerely believe that in this case, vapors will rise from the water and gather into a rain cloud.

Macedonians conjure rain with a unique ritual - Dodola. First, the inhabitants of Macedonia sing ritual songs asking for rain, and a girl, dressed in a grapevine skirt, walks, dancing along the street and stopping at each courtyard, waiting for the owners to pour a bucket of water on her.

It is not uncommon for sacrifices to be made in rituals to bring about rain. More often they were animals. For example, it was customary for the Indians to sacrifice some kind of black animal, and at that time the priests stood up to their necks in water and read spells; Chechens killed a snake; the Tatars cut the throat of a ram, etc.

On the island of Java, morals are stricter - two men whipped each other with flexible rods until blood appeared profusely - this symbolized the rain streams that would then spill onto the ground.

Science and rain

Man's desire to compete with the forces of nature has been known since his appearance on planet Earth, and in many ways he has achieved results. But how to make rain when drought calls into question the existence of all living things - the answer to this question has been under development for many centuries.

In Kaliningrad, a retired inventor has been coming up with a technology for collecting rain clouds for a quarter of a century. The essence of the invention is that before causing rain, coal must be enriched with special magnetic pulses, then the coal dust crystallizes and enters the atmosphere through the chimney.

Having reached a height of several meters, combustion products enter chemical reaction, as a result, rain begins to drip from the sky. It turns out that all you have to do is flood the stove with charged coal and it will rain? But in practice it turned out that the drops fall over a short period of time and the device for charging coal requires improvements. Nature has won again.

Swiss scientists have been studying ways to speed up the formation of rain clouds for many years. A few years ago they demonstrated an experiment showing how to make rain using lasers.

Scientists conducted a series of physical experiments using infrared lasers over the Rhone River in the canton of Geneva. The technique has been applied to various weather conditions, different temperatures and air humidity. As a result, scientists found that even with a relatively low atmospheric humidity of 70%, laser beams can cause the growth of microscopic drops of moisture.

Recently, one Russian scientist even received a patent for an invention that helps make rain. To do this, you need to “raise” the air to a certain height. In addition, this system can not only cause precipitation, but also clear smog from the air of cities.

Japanese scientists can also boast of their ability to cause rainfall. To do this, they used carbon dioxide, spraying it over the island of Miyake. The Japanese claim that this method is absolutely safe.

No matter how funny or wild the methods showing it may look, the statistics are disappointing - over the past forty years the volume fresh water for each person has already decreased by 60 percent and continues to decrease. And its lack often leads to aggravation of political relations between countries.

Today we will talk about how to independently cause rain, thunderstorms, lightning and completely control the weather and atmospheric phenomena with the help of magic. We will also consider magical technology control of weather elements with descriptions of rituals and spells

or from another certain part of the world, then you are unlikely to call for example from the east
you can...)

We additionally imagine and visualize everything related to bad weather (rain,
coolness that gives you goosebumps, clean air, etc.).
We imagine all this so much that we convince ourselves that rain is inevitable....

In Russia, Nikolai Ukolov, who lives in the Tambov village of Mordovo, disperses the clouds. To his unusual ability to manage natural phenomena many local residents are skeptical. However, if it starts to rain during a wedding or funeral, everyone runs to Nikolai for help.
Nikolai calls himself a healer and fortuneteller. Unusual abilities opened in him twelve years ago, when he saw the Mother of God in a dream. “She had a baby in her arms, and behind her was a pillar of red light,” says Nikolai. “I immediately realized that this dream was prophetic.” Since then, nature has become subject to Ukolov..

One day the head of the district administration asked him to provide good weather During the harvest, Nikolai kept his promise and received one and a half tons of grain and three bags of sugar for his labors.

The fall before last, Ukolov decided to test his strength in a large space. After Russian weather forecasters reported that warming was coming and the winter would be unusually warm, Nikolai decided to bring frost to the country. “I just didn’t calculate it a little,” the old man apologizes, “it was very cold”...

“My grandmother was still in the years October Revolution I found in the garden a gleam with inscriptions and a figurine of the god Perun, the patron saint of rain and thunderstorms,” rain whisperer Lydia Stepanovna tells reporters from the Ukrainian newspaper Donbass. - After that, she became a real weather master, she could cause snow almost by clapping her hands. Then she passed on her secrets to my aunt and me.”

Rain spell ritual (shamanic).

This ritual is used to call rain. The ritual bowl with spring water should be placed in the open air overnight. During the night, the water will be saturated with energy and acquire special properties.
The next morning, you need to take the cup in both hands, raise it above your head and say:
I call upon the moisture of heavenGet closer to the moisture of the earth,
To make it rain on the ground
And watered the green shoots!
If several girls participate in the ritual, then a small mystery can be held. Helpers should decorate their bodies fresh leaves and branches and turn to the shaman:
Mother Goddess!
Give us your juice.
Water us with your moisture!
Then the shaman must sprinkle on her assistants from the bowl and from previously prepared buckets. At the end of the ritual, sacrifices must be made to the elemental spirits and suitable incense must be lit. You can also summon rain through common snail, which is the personification of the Mistress of Rain. Find a snail in the forest, treat it with great respect. Dig a hole in your area towards the shade. Place a plate of water and fresh leaves in it and place the snail on the edge of the plate. At noon, approach the snail with a ritual bowl filled with water. Sprinkle water on the snail and say:
How I splash water on you
So are you, Snail - Mistress of the Rain,
Send long-awaited moisture to the earth!
Repeat this action many times. If it doesn’t rain during the day, then perform the ritual again the next day. Make sure the snail is comfortable in your area. After the rain, take the snail to the place where you took it from. Before leaving, thank the snail again. In the Zhitomir region, people also poured water on each other, saying: “As water pours on you, so that the rain pours on the ground.” This was done by the river or by the well. Sometimes they doused persons who, according to popular beliefs, had special magical powers: a pregnant woman symbolizing the earth, a shepherd as capable of influencing the heavenly “flocks” of clouds, a priest..

They often went to abandoned springs, cleaned them out, pouring water on each other, causing RAIN. There were walks around the village, fields, and prayers at a well or river. In Polesie they often poured poppy into a well, threw money, salt, garlic, blessed herbs, grains of wheat and rye, prosphora, etc., lilies blessed water, scooped up all the water from the well, etc. Sometimes clay pots were thrown into the well, and in many villages of Polesie it was believed that the pot should have been stolen - from neighbors, foreigners or potters.
In the Gomel region they said: “Since there is no rain, we’ll steal a Jewish smoothie somewhere and into a well - bang! And they also say it's going to rain" This method turned out to be more effective when the ritual was performed by a widow or when the pot was stolen from the widow. In the Chernihiv region, a pot of borscht was stolen from the oven and thrown into a well. The motif of borscht is characteristic of widespread children's songs about rain: “Doshchiku, doshchiku, I’m making it for the borscht.” Meni porridge, tobi borscht, shcheb ishov thick doshch”; “Go, go, plank, and water the potter.” Sometimes the stolen pots were first broken, and then the shards were thrown into the well.

Close to this method of causing RAIN are the Bulgarian and Serbian methods of protection against “tile magic”: the products of labor or the tools for their production were stolen from the tile tiles and brick makers and they were all thrown into the water. This action was understood as the removal of damage (“blocking the rain”, which was allegedly caused by tile tiles. They, like potters, were considered to be the culprits of the drought due to their involvement in the element of fire (firing pots, tiles) and professional interest in dry weather (for the sake of drying their products).

In Polesie and adjacent regions of Belarus and Russia, to induce RAIN, they performed the ritual of “plowing the river”: during a drought, they plowed or harrowed a dry river bed, or simply dragged a plow along the bottom. Symbolic plowing could also be done directly in shallow water: in Surazhsky district they “chose beautiful girl at the age of 15, they stripped her naked, hung her with wreaths and forced her to harrow water in this form.” In our time, a similar method of causing rain was noted in the Grodno region: “Old women gathered, stole a plow from the collective farm yard, brought it to the river, just women. Some harnessed themselves, while others drove with a scourge.” Sometimes, instead of a river, they “plowed” a road or dug holes on the road, symbolically “opening” the water (Polesie).

Another way of causing RAIN, which was of a purely magical nature, was the destruction of an anthill. The anthill was raked with a stick, just as they beat water in a well; at the same time, the spreading ants symbolized and magically caused drops of RAIN. This method is known in Polesie and among the southern Slavs. The Serbs, raking out an anthill, uttered a special spell: “As many ants, as many drops!”

Indian religious texts state ancient rite to call rain - a black animal had to be sacrificed. In western Bulgaria and eastern Serbia, a special ritual is known, performed during drought in order to induce RAIN: girls sculpted a clay doll named Herman (a male figure up to 50 cm in size with a hypertrophied phallus) and then, imitating burial, buried the doll on the river bank or thrown into the water, wailing: “Oh. Herman, Herman, Herman died from drought for the sake of rain.” In such rituals of mourning, tears were magically likened to RAIN. In the old days, when the villages around Tartu needed rain, three men would climb the tall spruce trees in the sacred grove. One of them, in imitation of thunder, hit a pot or small barrel with a hammer; the second, in imitation of lightning, struck sparks from burning brands, and the third - he was called the “rainmaker” - sprayed water from a vessel in all directions using a bunch of branches.

On the island of Java, when rain was needed, two men began to whip each other with flexible rods and continued this until blood began to flow from their backs: the flowing blood symbolized the rain, which was now expected to spill onto the ground .
The people of the Egghiu tribe, in one of the regions of Abyssinia, in order to cause rain, every time in January entered into bloody fights - with each other, village with village - which lasted for a whole week. Emperor Menelik later banned this custom. This ban caused indignation among the people when there was a shortage of rain. The emperor was forced to give in and allowed the bloody battles to resume, but only for two days a year.

In August 2006, in northern Nepal, where rice is traditionally grown, not a drop fell from the sky during the monsoon season. The peasants tried everything: prayers, offerings to the gods, special religious services - but the sky remained deaf to their calls.

“...The tom-toms beat incessantly all night. Ju-ju, a professional miracle worker from a mysterious clan of initiates, sat motionless, facing east, whispering something inaudibly under his breath. Opposite him stood a naked young woman, her face covered with a thick veil. This was a “rainbender” from the neighboring Toma tribe, whom Ju-ju apparently invited to assist him at such an important ceremony. For some time, the spellcaster silently swayed to the beat of the drum. Then she began to conduct the tom-toms herself, sharply throwing up her hands at an ever-accelerating tempo and forcing the drummers to speed up the roll even more.

I looked at the sky and couldn’t believe my eyes: the whitish haze, barely noticeable in the evening, turned into a gray veil, which thickened and became heavier every minute. And the exorcist kept pushing and pushing the tom-toms, which were lashing at the clouds with machine-gun bursts. And the sky could not withstand such a cruel execution: the long-awaited rain finally poured from the low-hanging clouds.”

So describes English traveler Hugo Chateris describes a magical ceremony for making rain, which he observed in the 50s of the last century in Guinea. The same rituals have existed among many other peoples since time immemorial.

Last August, in northern Nepal, where rice is traditionally grown, not a drop fell from the sky during the monsoon season. There was something to despair about. The peasants tried everything: prayers, offerings to the gods, special religious services - but the sky remained deaf to their calls.

And then Nepalese women from the Kapilvastu region said that they know one ancient method that is used only as a last resort.

After this, about fifty peasant women got up at sunrise and performed an extreme ritual of making rain. They undressed and went out rice fields naked and began to cast spells known only to them. To the surprise of the journalists watching the spectacle, by the end of the day it actually rained over the fields of Kapilvastu!

One of the great "rain queens" of the Transvaal was Mujadji, an old woman whom even Rider Haggard had heard of. Many years after she was described in one of the writer's novels, General Smuts spoke of her as a woman who impressed him "by the strength of her character and subtle imperious manner - a woman who really was a queen."

The practice of making rain in the past existed in two forms. Church, as, for example, in Russia, when they used religious procession and prayer for rain. And sorcery, when rainmakers acted according to ancient pagan rituals.
Pagan methods of causing RAIN, especially rain at wells, were severely condemned by the church.
