Holidays in Cambodia in January. Length of day and hours of sunshine

Having traveled to South East Asia, I know that January is one of those months that is perfect for a beach holiday. Therefore, my husband and I decided to spend our vacation in Sihanoukville in January, immediately after new year holidays. The weather was splendid. During the day, the sun warmed the air up to 33 degrees. Oddly enough, the heat in Cambodia is perceived somewhat differently than, for example, in Russia. No sweltering heat. In the evening it was quite warm - 22-23 degrees. Temperature sea water- 30 degrees. During the rest, it never rained, and the sky was clear and without a single cloud.

Just before leaving, I read that January is considered the coldest in Cambodia. I was very worried, because in winter I especially want not just comfortable weather, but hot weather. On all sites, the Cambodian winter was described as the summer of Russia. I want to reassure all travelers HEAT will be. Despite the fact that it seemed to be 28 degrees, they felt like all 32. The sea is like fresh milk. The sky is cloudless, the sun is bright. In general, beauty.

We went on vacation to Cambodia in January and I think we were lucky with the weather. After the cold frosts, it was almost perfect for the subtropics, although you need to stock up on sunscreen, as there was plenty of sun. In the afternoon, they tried to spend it indoors or by the pool under an awning. It rained only once, delighting us with its brief coolness. The average air temperature during the day was 29 degrees, at night 19 degrees. The sea water is warm, pleasant at a temperature of 28 degrees. They bathed day and night. Rest was a success.

Rest and weather in Cambodia in January: reviews of tourists with photos

According to statistics, every year more and more tourists from Russia choose Cambodia for their holidays. The country is next to Thailand, but it is cheaper than all neighboring countries, including Vietnam. Cambodia is especially popular in January 2020, when the weather is hot and dry. Reviews of tourists and photos will help you understand how great it is to relax in the country in winter. There are also tips for you so that you do not get into trouble if you are visiting Cambodia for the first time.

Cambodia is not the best big country in the world. And almost the entire territory is the same temperature. But still there is a difference in which resort to relax.
Look at the table of water and air temperatures at different resorts in Cambodia:

As you can see, January is a great month for a beach holiday in the country. At all resorts in the country, the temperature is not lower than +29 degrees. The nights are also warm and in the evenings tourists walk along the coast. Enjoying the sunset and the reflection of the moon in the water.
As for cloudiness, every fifth day the sun may not be. It doesn't mean that it will. It just happens statistically. It happens that the sun shines for ten days in a row. And then he's gone for two or three days. At the same time, there is not much rain, from 1 to 3, depending on the region of the country.

The water in the sea is simply gorgeous, up to +28 degrees. there are no winds, just as there are no waves on the sea. At this time, it is great to relax here with children. the entrance to the sea on the beaches is gentle, there are no deep holes and cliffs. Children can safely play in and around the water.

Do not forget to find out about a visa to Cambodia: how to apply for it, what documents are needed and what can be legally taken out of the country.

Travel tips.
As tourists who rested in Cambodia in January say, at this time the berry is hot here. The sun shines strongly and warms, so you can’t do without special creams. How not to do without sunglasses to help protect your eyes from the rays.

The beaches in Cambodia are different and often have white sand. The reflection off the white sand is bright and your eyes will hurt. So be sure to wear sunglasses. Also, do not forget about an umbrella to relax on the beach in comfort. You can sunbathe for no more than an hour. Then it is recommended to go into the shade so as not to burn the skin.
In general, during the day it is best to be near the pool at the hotel. There is more shade, and the rest is more comfortable. Many tourists at lunchtime prefer to relax in their room or sit in a cafe. If you are going on a tour, then you should wear light clothes and take with you more water. The heat and dryness will make you drink frequently. Polina7979's message was modified on 15-2-2018 21:58

Finally, it's time to talk about my husband and I trip to Cambodia.
The trip was 2 weeks and consisted of 2 parts - Angkor Wat (Siem Reap city sightseeing) and Sihanoukville ( beach holiday). I also wanted to see the monuments - to enrich myself spiritually and, of course, swim and lie on the beach.

So, first of all, we developed a route - we read where Angkor Wat is located, in which city and how and with what to fly there, and then we began to look where to go to the sea. At sea, we also decided to go to Cambodia (Sihanoukville), since we had already been to nearby Thailand. I didn't want to go to Vietnam...
We read about Sihanoukville - the reviews were good, and it was easy to get there - either local airlines (fly an hour, cost about 9 thousand rubles there and back), but you need to keep in mind that they often fly small propeller planes! (some are afraid of this, but we liked it :) the main place to choose is not next to the screw!
Planes fly to Sihanoukville from both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
We also heard about transfers by buses and cars from the same cities, but I can’t say anything about the cost and time.

The main flight was chosen by Aeroflot (about 9 hours to fly) Moscow-Bangkok. They took Aeroflot because of the bonus miles that my husband had accumulated :). We often buy tickets like this - a nice bonus from Aeroflot :)
Then booked through Booking.com
In Siem Reap, they chose the Angkor resort spa hotel - because of the rather large area and from the pool.
In Sihanoukville, we liked the Sokha resort hotel - this hotel was also chosen because of the large territory and its own beach !!!
In Bangkok, on the way back, we booked the Millenium Hilton Hotel for one night, as our return flight to Moscow was the next day in the morning.
So, the first flight took place :)

We arrived in Bangkok in the morning (Suvarnabhumi Airport) and our next plane to Siem Reap was at 18:00.
We changed some money at the airport (for a high-speed train to the center and a tuk-tuk) - 300 baht - it turned out to be 10 dollars or 600 Russian rubles.
My husband and I left our things in the luggage room (works around the clock, one suitcase is about 150-200 baht), and then we went on the "high-speed metro" (costs 50 baht one way, only 30 minutes from the airport to the center) to the center to get to the observation deck of the tower.
The weather was sunny but stuffy :)
From the final metro station we also took a local tuk-tuk to the tower itself.
Made it to the Chinese! After everyone looked at the exit, they saw numerous buses full of Chinese!!! There were sooo many of them.
There in the tower, we got to a buffet with fresh fruit. There are a lot of fruits (watermelon, papaya, dragon fruit, pineapple, etc.), as well as desserts in the form of colorful rice :) and some jellies :)
Coconut water was offered as a drink :)
Informative and tasty :), but this is if you are ready for such a non-standard breakfast :)
Then fatigue reached us :) after all, the flight was long :) and not quite sober (a new Russian-Polish union, which was accompanied by numerous toasts for a new acquaintance :), vows of eternal friendship :) between us and our new wonderful friend -Marcin)

Well, in general, the eyes closed by themselves, at least insert the matches .. our new friend called us to his hotel, but we decided that we would go to the local street Spa - we would sleep, and they would also give us a massage :)
We chose 2 hours Spa (it costs about 700 rubles per person) and tried to relax :).
In general, it turned out to be a good thing :) you just need to be prepared for the chatter masseuses :), which my husband and I got :)
We returned to the airport :) and accidentally saw that there is a SPA at the airport :) just like the hotel :)
In general, my husband and I concluded that after a 9-hour flight it is hard to stagger and wait for the next plane, which will be only in the evening :). It is necessary vse-taki to think of how to have a rest to have a sleep.

So, the next flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap was around 18:00 and an hour later we were in the city of the Temples :)
We were met at the airport and taken to the hotel. The road from the airport to the hotel took about 20 minutes.
It was already dark in the city. By the way, it gets dark there already around 18.20, and the sun rises at 6.20. Therefore, when thinking over your excursions to the temples in Siem Reap, you need to take this into account and do not forget about the heat from 13-15 hours.
Our excursions started from the meeting of the dawn :) and until 12 o'clock. Then we went to the hotel to lie down, swim and relax, and already at around 15.30 our guide called for us again.
About the guide :) My husband found our guide Oleg via the Internet. We wrote off, discussed the details and agreed on 2 days of excursions (large and small circle of Angkor Wat) from 5.30 am to 12 and from 15.30-18.30. All excursions were in Russian, and plus a car was assigned to us for all 2 days).
Of course, the meeting of the dawn and incredible sunsets among the temples of Angkor Wat cannot but leave a mark in your heart and soul :)

We also visited the night street of Siem Reap - Pub street (Pub street), something like Walking street.
Very party, play music bands and around a huge number of European tourists. Lots of nice restaurants in European style and local. Of the dishes on offer, there are pizza, French cheeses, frogs, a crocodile and much more :) there is even a happy pizza (but we didn’t take it because the guide warned that the locals, with the best of intentions, put so much of everything there to make us Europeans happy - and then all local hospitals are full of such happy tourists at night :))
From drinks, a huge number of French, Chilean, Australian wines and branded, stronger drinks. At a cost - a bottle of wine from $ 18. You can eat for two with wine starting from $ 25 (for two).
It is interesting that everywhere near any temple, starting from Angkor Wat, there are a huge number of cafes where you, having met the dawn, can have breakfast with delicious branded coffee (cappuccino, mochachino choice like in Sturbucks) and fresh croissants :)
I was very excited about this!!!
Gentlemen, Cambodia is a former French colony!!! And so lovers of French pastries, wine and cheese tremble!!! It's all there!!! Moreover, the local supermarket (out of curiosity, we couldn't miss it :) has a good selection of French cheeses and wines!

The fact that Cambodia is a former French colony is also evidenced by the architecture of hotels, of which there are a huge number. For the most part, this is a French colonial style. The hotels are luxurious and you want to look at them and look at them ...
The very combination of Khmer-style hotels and their French neighbors is interesting :)
And of course it catches the eye a large number of casually dressed, but with chic French tourists, whose melodious speech scatters in all the temples we visit. Here and there you hear merci :). This is impressive and for some reason puts a stupid smile on my face

This winter in Cambodia has been one of the coldest. However, in Thailand and other countries South-East Asia This phenomenon has been observed for the third year since 2013. Temperatures drop to extremes at night, unprepared residents of warm, by definition, countries chatter their teeth in horror and put on everything they have from warm clothes. Philanthropists hastily collect blankets and jerseys for the north of the countries, because the seemingly ridiculous frosts of up to plus five in fact turn into real victims - I remember that there were reports in the press about deaths due to extreme frosts.

Monthly weather in Sihanoukville

  1. January 2016.
For almost the entire month, the weather was sunny during the day, and there were no completely cloudy days at all. Except for an hour or two the sun was hiding behind the clouds, but it was not for long.
However, there was no scorching heat. The weather was for the most part pleasant - cool by Cambodian standards, dry and almost always a fresh breeze. If it was really hot under the open sun, then in the shade it was always and everywhere comfortable - no street fans were needed.
    Temperatures averaged 28.

At night, it is from cool to frosty, as in December. For several nights they chattered their teeth, huddled under a warm blanket and yearned for cozy pajamas with bunnies. Traditionally, they did not use either air conditioning or a fan at night - there was no need. Even sometimes they closed the windows on purpose in order to keep the heat in at least a little.
According to friends and neighbors - happy owners of thermometers, the temperature at night dropped to 15 Celsius. It's very, very, VERY cold in Cambodia!
The sea was cold, very cold. If the weather is also windy, and there is almost always a tangible breeze, I didn’t want to swim. And we didn't swim much. The water temperature was also said to be at 28 degrees.
A couple of times there were some indistinct rains - even the red dust of clay roads could not be beaten for five minutes.
In a word, January turned out to be traditionally cool and very dry.
Compared to Pattaya, the air in Sihanoukville is always a little drier - the clothes get wet less on the body, the skin is not so sticky, and the laundry dries faster. Perhaps the reason is only in the constant wind.

  2. February 2016.
The weather was about the same as in January. Only three times there were heavy, but short-lived downpours at night. The sea became warmer by the end of the month, and a few cool cloudy days in the last week. the average temperature of water and air continued to be kept at the level of 28 Celsius.

Spring ahead. AT tropical climate Cambodia is not the most pleasant season - it is coming heatwave, the temperature during the day rarely drops below 30, the nights are stuffy, it doesn’t rain at all. I will prepare the next climate observation report in Sihanoukville in early June - I will tell you about the weather in March, April and May.

Finally, a couple of colorful shots taken in February. It was the most comfortable Cambodian weather of the year!

With wishes of eternal summer in the soul and sunny mood, yours sincerely, Marta. Cambodia, Sihanoukville, March 2016
