What is the best way to study?

Are they different from those used by those who have difficulty achieving it? It's about about strategies or other factors related to learning, for example, economic, medical, labor, motivational? With these situations in mind, we decided to explore "learning" to identify and understand the aspects that support it and the aspects that hinder it. To that end, there has been an approach to what students and faculty think. Views, processes, strategies and factors in which we worked from the first cohort.

We used the student's experience as a way to explore the processes and strategies they use, as well as the factors that they see as contributing to or hindering student achievement. As a supplement, information was collected provided by teachers who interact directly with the student.

What is the best way to study at a university? In the eyes of teachers, especially in senior years, your attendance is of great value. It is enough just to catch the eye of the teacher, so that it literally adds points to you on the exam. And if you can’t be at all the lectures, try to be remembered, in good sense, at those lectures that you still attended. Ask questions, sit with an interested look on the first desk. yes you want good grades- forget about the last parties. These are places for academic losers.

The study that has been developed is of a descriptive, comparative and explanatory nature of the applied type. The survey was used for students and one for teachers, and the responses were processed using a qualitative methodology for submissions and quantification of the remaining aspects.

The aspects or variables that have been analyzed are: representations associated with the term of learning, self-perceptions of competence to learn, indicators of effective learning, elements that promote and hinder university learning, processes carried out by the learner, strategies used, and factors influencing it.

Path to Excellence

It is much more difficult to get a grade in universities good relationship with a teacher than at school. But high academic performance is more common among students whose relationship with the teacher has developed. Paradox? No, just kindred spirits. In practice, students and teachers were considered as separate groups to compare their perceptions of what it means to learn, what behaviors show effective learning, and what elements facilitate or hinder the process. In turn, based on the opinion of the same student about their ability to learn, the student group was divided into students who learned easily and students who had certain difficulties. Within each segment, processes, strategies and factors were analyzed by careers and the university.

The goal was to arrive at an empirical description that identifies elements that tend to go unnoticed and affect learning performance. The decision to take as a basis the perception of students and professors reflects the intention that the results are transferred to the applied plane, that is, close to solving problems.

The Right System

Your main trump card is the systematic study. Be sure to attend to your academic problems every day. Even on Sunday you can view notes. Orthodox priests they say that studying is a charitable thing, on Sunday you can, so religious excuses do not work. What is the best way to study? Regularly and systematically. Then the session will not be terrible.

When analyzing whether there are differences between what students and teachers understand when studying, it was noted that certain terms are repeated in both groups and in all careers, especially: “acquisition of knowledge, knowledge, understanding, knowledge, understanding, interpret, connect , internalize". Along with these elements that can be seen as common, there were some interesting differences. Taking one of them as an example, the students mention the words associated with learning to make mistakes, make mistakes, which teachers do not have.

It is also striking that students repeat more than teachers' terms that refer to interaction, such as "discuss", "discuss", "communicate", "question". With regard to indicators of effective learning, students first set: be able to express in their own words what they have learned, give examples and establish relationships between the topics of the program and other topics. Instead, teachers prioritize problem solving, innovation, and transfer to different situations.

You need to study measuredly and evenly, without rush jobs. Only in this case you will learn the material deeply enough. Namely, this is how you need to study if your education is for life, and not just for getting a diploma.

The student has a great responsibility when he enters the university. If you look at it, then this responsibility is for life, present and future. That is why the saying flies in the student circle: "Students live happily from session to session."

Regarding elements that facilitate learning, the choice most often chosen by students is explained by the teacher, followed by a reading of the bibliography. In medicine, in particular, the activity of the race is in third place. Teachers, for their part, put class participation first, and then options that match those of the students.

As for the elements that make learning difficult, teachers and students agree on poor timing, but they differ in other aspects. For example, students also experience a lack of effort, while for teachers, reading comprehension problems and difficulties with content content in real-world situations weigh heavily.

How can you study well at university? Where to start? Firstly, from the fact that everything should not be postponed until the very last day and even night. At the very beginning of the semester, it is advised to draw up a so-called "ToDo list". What's this? Such a special sheet, where all the subjects are written, as well as all the tasks that need to be performed in these disciplines. At the same time, pay close attention to great work: coursework, calculations, etc. You will need this list in order to fully understand what needs to be done. And when you have to make a choice of print formats for any creative work, this will no longer put you in an unexpected position. Indeed, many tasks simply fly out of their heads, and some remember them already before the deadline itself. Don't do it.

To analyze information about the processes and strategies used for learning and factors that help or hinder the achievement of academic goals, the responses of those who believe they learn easily and those who believe they have some difficulty were performed separately. .

Thus, the most notable differences appeared in variable processes. In both cases, the differences between the segments are repeated in all races. In terms of factors that promote or hinder learning, there are no significant differences between students who learn easily and students who do so with some difficulty in terms of health, family and career motivation. For example, although for only 5.6% and 8.5% of students who study easily, it is true that work leaves them no time to study; this accounts for 18.5% and 20.7% of those who believe they study hard.

In the implementation of training tasks also have their own tactics. If you want to spend less time studying, then you need to complete tasks without being distracted by anything. This means that after coming home, you need to immediately start doing your homework, and after completing it, you can already go to your favorite social network. In case of violation this rule 2 outcomes are possible: either the execution of the work will stretch several times, or you will not do anything at all.

As a generalization of the presented results and taking into account that the perception of teachers and students, students of different professions and students who learn easily and who learn with some difficulty, it is noted that the most noticeable differences are perceived among those who they learn easily and those who do it with some difficulty.

But in practice, availability higher education brings with it the need to take action that promotes effective career progression. If only received knowledge is transmitted, it is taught with an eye to the past; however, if during life at the university the processes that distinguish the scientific community of each disciplinary field are identified and practiced, the student is ready to continue his studies in the future.

Another important point: do not put it off until later. Do the task on the same day it was given. In this case, the minimum amount of time will be spent on it, because the information from the lecture or practice that the teachers tried to fill your head with is still stored in your head. This tactic has another advantage. If you turn in your work before the due date, then perhaps the teacher will remember you with better side and generally put the rating automatically. And this means that you do not have to take another test / exam.

Based on a quantitative approach, it is confirmed that there are differences between what teachers and students consider effective indicators of learning. As stated at the beginning, the respective scores are not the same when they are graded and scored. Perhaps the student does not offer innovation or expresses different points vision, because he does not know that the teacher expects and appreciates him. Something similar happens with the transmission of what different situations have learned.

A proposal to improve in this sense is to review the training of undergraduate teachers with a view to updating approaches related to mediation strategies and resources to promote the development of cognitive and metacognitive processes requiring training at the university and in the future in the profession - associated with content, procedures and specific relationships in each field of knowledge.

When using a ToDo sheet, it will be easier to plan which task to complete and when. This again reduces wasted time.

And finally, we note that it is better to be less lazy and visit more couples, ideally - everything. If you listen to a lecture, you will save more time than if you take apart all the houses yourself. In addition, often the presence at the lecture is an increase in reputation in the eyes of the teacher. Sometimes it happens that attending lectures is enough for a good automatic grade for the exam.

You can also think about strengthening the link between teaching and learning. In practice, this is, for example, sharing goals, discussing the characteristics and functionality of the learning to be achieved; restore old ideas that serve to consolidate new ideas; anticipate the sequence to be covered, the cognitive operations associated with it, strategies for monitoring one's work; the meaning of the evaluation that accompanies the process and the evaluation that is carried out for accreditation.

From the point of view of pedagogical interaction, if you agree that teaching is not equivalent to "showing", what should you learn, and you leave one student in front of difficult part: process content to learn it effectively; this proposal again refers to teacher training, in particular to the theoretical foundations that support it. Based on current developments in cognitive psychology, in educational psychology, in didactics, the role of the teacher is to act as an intermediary, placing between what needs to be studied - these can be concepts, procedures, relationships and internal processes that you must run to find out.
