Matrona Nikonova was born in 1885 in the village of Sebino not far from the famous Kulikovo Field. She began her life right away with a test - she was born without eyeballs. But it’s much easier to cope with illness in a circle loving family and in Christian education.
Despite her congenital illness, she showed miracles to those around her and could perfectly navigate in space, as if she “saw” the objects around her. At the age of 7, she healed the sick and had the gift of prediction, which manifested itself in predicting natural or social incidents, the approach of grief or danger. She surprised adults with the depth of her judgment and purity of thought. Living not far from the temple, little Matrona attended all services on her own from the age of 10, knew all the rituals, prayers and chants. Within a few years, people from surrounding villages came to the devout girl in search of warning, guidance, words of consolation and, of course, healing.
At the age of 17, the girl’s legs gave out, but Matrona humbly accepted this cross from God. On her 40th birthday, the Most Holy One moved to live in the vicinity of the capital and for about 30 years she conducted services, giving consolation and salvation to many lost and despairing souls. Both during the life of the Saint and now, the prayer to Matrona of Moscow for help does not go unnoticed.
After the death of her mother in 1945, Matrona moved from one relative to another. These were times of persecution of the church, times of unacceptable proximity between communists and women healing with prayers, so Matrona did not stay anywhere for long.
Shortly before her death, Mother Matrona predicted: “I know that after death they will forget about me for some time - only relatives will come to the grave. But in a few years, a huge number of people will gather here, and I will help everyone.". On May 2, Matrona Dmitrievna Nikonova passed away to God - this date is considered the Saint’s Day of Remembrance. Indeed, three decades after the funeral, Orthodox Christians began to come to the grave of the blessed old woman from all over the country. Infancy and adolescence
In 1881, in one of the villages of the Tula province in peasant family a girl was born. She was the fourth child after her older brothers. She was blind from birth, her eyes were tightly closed with her eyelids, and on her chest there shone a bulge - a miraculous cross.
Natalya, the mother of a newborn child, being pregnant, decided to give the baby to a shelter due to the lack of financial opportunity feed big family. But just before giving birth, in a dream vision, a huge white-winged bird came to the woman with eyes closed and sat on her chest.
Miracle of the Birth of Saint Matrona
After the birth of the baby, the God-fearing mother realized that the vision was a sign from Heaven and abandoned her sinful intention. She fell in love with her “unfortunate daughter” very much.
Matrona grew up and tried to spend more and more time within the walls of the church; she felt calm and comfortable there, she really loved to attend services. And at home the girl took icons off the wall and played with them, as if talking to saints. She whispered something to them, and then put the icon to her ear, as if listening to the answer to the question.
When the girl was 8 years old, God revealed to her the gift of clairvoyance and miracles. She could heal the sick from serious illnesses, raised the infirm from their beds, and made paralyzed people walk for years. She consoled those who came to her in their sorrows and supported them in their faith. As a token of gratitude, the suffering left her food and gifts, thus Matrona was not a burden, but the main breadwinner in a poor family.
Adult years and moving to Moscow
One day the blessed one was traveling with her friend to holy places and met righteous John Kronstadt.
Seeing the girl, he ordered the parishioners to make way for her and said that Matrona is his worthy replacement, “the eighth pillar of Russia”. Thus, he foresaw her special service for the Glory of Christ.
Later, the girl lost her legs, but she accepted the serious illness with humility, realizing that everything is the Will of God. Now Matrona could only sit or lie. But even in this state, she did not stop accepting people and helping them. She carried the Heavy Cross with dignity until the end of her days.
In the 20s of the twentieth century, she was forced to move to the capital. Her brothers became ardent communists and were not happy with their God-fearing sister. Matrona wandered through basements and other people's Moscow apartments, hiding from possible arrest and still receiving people. 40-50 people visited her a day, everyone came to her with sorrows and illnesses. The saint did not refuse help to anyone and, according to their faith, everyone received what they asked for.
In 1952, Matrona was given the date of her repose in Christ, but she, like a mere mortal man, was afraid of death, afraid, but wanted to meet the Heavenly Father. She went to the Lord on May 2 and was buried in the Danilovsky churchyard. In 1998 her imperishable relics were exhumed and transferred to a shrine on the territory of the Intercession Monastery. In 1999, Matrona of Moscow was canonized and canonized as a Saint of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Who is Matrona of Moscow
The story of Blessed Matronushka began even before her birth. She was the fourth child, and mother Natalya Nikonova, fearing that the family would not be able to feed all the children, made a difficult decision: she was going to abandon the girl immediately after her birth. But on the eve of giving birth, the woman dreamed of an unusual bird with human face and closed eyes. A deeply religious Natalya interpreted this vision as a sign from above: God does not consent to the abandonment of a child. The dream turned out to be prophetic: on November 10, 1881, a blind baby was born into a poor peasant family.

Unusual events that began to accompany the girl throughout her life began during baptism. The priest, lowering the child into the font, noticed a light haze around the baby, emitting a fragrance. The priest noted this as a sign that the baby was chosen by God.
Matrona’s mother noted that the newborn girl began to fast on her own. Little Matrona did not eat milk on Wednesdays and Fridays, refusing to breastfeed. These days she just slept all day long.
Since childhood, Matronushka was different from her peers. While other children were having fun in the yard, the future saint loved to spend time in the red corner, playing with icons. As she grew older, the girl began to sing along in the church choir. People already noticed at this time unusual abilities child, and at the age of eight she received visitors as a seer and healer. People endlessly came to a simple peasant hut, bringing with them treats and gifts in gratitude. So, from an extra mouth, Matrona turned into a breadwinner for the family. The life of the saint describes in detail one of the cases of Matrona’s miracle-working. Four kilometers from her home village lived a paralyzed man who could not walk. The revolution of 1917 was the beginning of wanderings and persecution for Blessed Matronushka, and in 1925 she moved to Moscow, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Without registration, Matrona was forced to live with caring people, acquaintances and relatives. In the capital, hunger, cold and the constant threat of arrest awaited her. Pursued by the police, she more than once foresaw the arrival of the servants of the law and moved out of the apartment the day before their appearance. The last refuge of the old woman was a station near Moscow, where her distant relative lived. The seer died there on May 2, 1952. Despite Mother Matrona’s passing, people continued to go to her grave at the Danilovskoye Cemetery, asking for and receiving help.
