More than half of the earth's surface is occupied water resources providing life for everything on the planet. In addition to the seas, oceans, there are also rivers, lakes, ponds, playing at least important role in the existence of mankind, flora and fauna. However, any reservoir tends to become polluted, which reduces its functionality. In order to solve such problems, a holiday is established international character: Day of cleaning of reservoirs. It has been celebrated throughout the world in the month of June since 1995.

The history of the holiday International Day of Cleaning Water Bodies

The event that will be discussed in this article is, in fact, environmental action. Its organizers stand up for the protection of nature and the safe existence of you and me within its boundaries.

central event international day cleaning of water bodies - holding a global subbotnik, which is a set of general cleanings scattered across world regions, “cities and villages”. This process is carried out on the initiative and under the auspices of the organization PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) - the Association of Diving Instructors. Employees of this association are engaged in training those wishing to dive, that is, scuba diving. In addition, PADI is the very organization that brings together specialists high level in the designated field of activity.

At the moment, the members of the organization are physical (instructors, divemasters) and legal entities(about 6000 dive centers), as well as entire resorts. The goal of the Association is to make scuba diving accessible, interesting and exciting. At the same time, PADI employees make every effort to ensure the safety of their customers.

How does it go International Cleanup Day reservoirs in normal Russian cities and others settlements? It should be noted, first of all, that ecological holiday this one in our country has been celebrated only since 2003, on the first day off (Saturday or Sunday) of June. Responsibility for carrying out specific events lies entirely on the shoulders of the employees of the diving clubs. Participants are coastal support groups and scuba divers - all volunteers. An interesting addition to the main action, that is, a subbotnik, is usually a competition between groups (teams) in one category or another. What is happening is certainly fixed, and then illuminated by means mass media. Anyone can take part in such events within the framework of international water cleanup day, but, of course, only on condition that an environmental conservation campaign is carried out in his region/city/village. Important: abroad, that is, in the CIS countries, Water Cleanup Day organized in autumn due to less severe climatic conditions.

Causes of water pollution

A river, a lake and an ordinary pond, especially those that are not large in size, change their shape over time. appearance- and not in better side. Under the influence of various factors, the quality of the reservoir also decreases. First, the shores are being destroyed due to winds and washout. Secondly, vegetation plays a large negative role in the deterioration of the attractiveness of a reservoir. Sedge, reeds form whole thickets and “clog” a pond or lake. Well, another enemy of water bodies is duckweed, because of which the water literally begins to “bloom”, changes its shade to a cloudy greenish or reddish. The process impairs the development of protozoa and various bacteria.

Another big problem of pollution of lakes and ponds is garbage. He can be different origin and appears where it should not - "thanks" to human activity, or rather, the indifference of the latter and his negligent attitude towards nature. In combination with soil, clay, brought into the reservoir by melt water, the process of decay begins, as a result, hydrogen sulfide is released, which poisons the entire ecosystem as a whole. Of course, this affects the existence of the inhabitants of the reservoir more than negatively. As a result, some species of flora disappear, fish die out, bad smell rot and mud. From here to turning into a swamp is within easy reach, if specialists do not come to the rescue and do not clean up natural object. This is necessary, because in the later stages the reservoir is not able to apply the self-cleaning system.

Pollution fresh water not always so obvious. Often there is also the so-called invisible pollution. The reason for this is the substances that are soluble in water. For example, with floods, magnesium compounds enter the reservoir - they are simply washed out of the soil of meadows and fields, and deal a crushing blow to fish populations. far from positive influence have on the state of ponds, rivers, lakes invisible to the naked eye aluminum compounds, again contained in the ground.

There are also very serious pollutants: oil products, wastewater, detergents that give foam. With the systematic discharge of all this muck into a reservoir, the latter is quite difficult to rehabilitate, almost impossible. Nature itself plays a significant role in the pollution of fresh waters. For example, acid rain increase the level of toxic substances and heavy metals in reservoirs. Human activity also makes its contribution, which seems to be of continuous benefit to society: occupation agriculture, For example. In short, wherever you look, danger is everywhere.

Water treatment methods

The easiest way is to free the affected pond or lake from biogenic trash, that is, "garbage" that has settled there naturally without the direct participation of human activity, with the exception of purposeful contamination with objects from natural materials e.g. paper, metal. For this purpose, first of all, a mechanical cleaning method is used. It consists in the implementation of the following activities:

  • pumping out liquid from a reservoir;

  • removal of sediments from the bottom of the pond/lake;

  • lining the bottom of the reservoir with special water-resistant clay;

  • return to the reservoir of pumped water.

In the event that this method is not feasible for a number of reasons, as an option, a complex method is used. To do this, perform such manipulations as establishing the circulation of the liquid of the reservoir, cleaning the bottom of settled debris, improving the quality and species composition microflora living in a reservoir, enrichment of water with oxygen. This method especially relevant for cleaning ponds covered with duckweed.

About gifts for the holiday "International Water Cleanup Day"

The best present you can give to the professionals taking part in the cleanup of water bodies as part of the International Day is to show solidarity, that is, to join their ranks, at least for one day. If we talk about more significant gifts, then it would be nice to make a surprise related to the water theme. Present to a dive club employee or environmentalist dealing with similar issues a figurine of Neptune, a piece of jewelry with precious stone- aquamarine or blue sapphire. And, of course, agitate your friends and relatives to help clean up the reservoirs every year, and maybe not only on holidays. May ponds, lakes and rivers always be clean!

Traditionally on the first Sunday of summer, which this year falls on June 4, the whole world cleans reservoirs. AT International Water Cleanup Day all divers unite against garbage! After all, thanks to our skills, we can make water bodies cleaner and safer!

Club "Aquanaut" invites caring people on Sunday, June 4 to the pearl of the Moscow region - lake SENEZH.

Lake Senezh is located in the Solnechnogorsk district of the Moscow region. This is a great place to relax with the whole family and just a paradise for lovers fishing. To be precise, Senezh is not a lake, but an artificial reservoir created at the beginning of the 19th century on the Sestra River. The canal system was built in those days with the aim of delivering stone from the Volga to the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. But everyone has already forgotten about this story and call Senezh the lake.

The depths here are small, only 4-6 meters. The fish is different, and most importantly - there are a lot of them here. Even the most sophisticated angler is breathtaking when he hears these names: pike perch, pike, perch, grass carp, silver carp, carp, crucian carp and even exotic eel. This place can be called "cool" in every sense. The water in the lake is very clean, the landscape along the banks is truly Russian - Levitan's last painting, written by him here, is called “Lake. Russia".

Traditionally, those who wish to help clean up the shore, see how divers work, and just have a good time in the fresh air will gather near Senezhskoye Lake. Garbage will be collected separately, we will conduct an accounting by fractions and enter all data into the worldwide register of Project AWARE (Project for the conservation, study and careful attitude to bodies of water). Also you will have unique opportunity- take a special course PADI Dive Against Debris(Divers against garbage.

The one-time entry fee (including the cost of the certificate) will go to the Project AWARE Fund. Course participants are provided educational materials. The course is taught by PADI Course Director German Gursky. After we go ashore, we will have a delicious lunch from the organizers.

Event plan:

10:00 Gathering of participants. We dismantle equipment and park cars

10:30 Briefing and inventory distribution.

11.00 Grand opening. Divers entering the water. Help from boats on the surface of those who do not dive.

International Water Cleanup Day

Report from the scene
On the International Day of Reservoir Cleanup, divers from several metropolitan clubs gathered on the central beach of the Stroginsky Backwater to clear the coastal strip of debris. Novye Izvestia also decided to join the clean diving enthusiasts. And they were horrified by what they saw.

This time the object of cleaning was Central Beach Stroginsky backwater. Diving enthusiasts from St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Izhevsk joined the capital divers in their regions, Far East, as well as Ukraine, Belarus, Egypt, Turkey and other countries.

The protesters were divided into three groups. The first included scuba divers. The second group consisted of underwater hunters diving under water holding their breath. The third is the wives of divers and children who cleaned the shore. At the same time, the work took place in the form of team competitions: who will collect the most. All prey was piled on the shore in piles.

Cool weather did not bother divers. Having changed into wetsuits and taking on a large plastic bag, men entered the water. According to the rules, only couples can work in the water. As Alexei Gerasimov explained to Novye Izvestia, this necessary measure to help and at the same time insure a friend.

In the very first minutes, three underwater hunters fished out two crumpled urns, a baby carriage, a saucepan, a safe and fragments of metal pipes. And the most unusual find was a heavy garden bench, no one knows how found itself at a depth of 4.5 meters. To pull her ashore, the help of two more divers was needed. “We have been cleaning Lake Senezh in Zelenograd with our son and friends for six years,” one of the underwater hunters told Novye Izvestia. “We’ve come across everything, but we haven’t seen anything like it here yet.”

“Most likely, in winter the fishermen took her out onto the ice to make fishing more comfortable,” explained Dmitry Kuznetsov, a participant in the action. - And then they left it there, and when the thaw began, the bench went under water. We just found a pair of tires tied with a chain - probably used for the same purpose.

But most of the garbage is left by vacationers. "To the beach different people comes, - said Dmitry Kuznetsov. - Someone had a rest and cleaned up after himself - there are dustbins next to each other. But for some reason others do not use them. But about broken glass or some kind of piece of iron children can get hurt!

Packing the finds into packages, the divers passed them on to women and children, who folded them on the shore. General laughter was caused by a sealed bottle of vodka caught by one of the divers. "Drink with aging!" - the divers commented on the find.

Meanwhile, the water near the beach was almost clear. “Fortunately, there is nothing to catch here,” said diver Anton Sanderov. Visibility is good - up to five meters. And there are plenty of fish. True, the farther from the coast, the dirtier the bottom. But in good weather I wouldn't mind swimming here."

By one o'clock in the afternoon the coastal strip was cleared. A heavy metal table, a stove hood, a fire extinguisher, a sheet of plywood, a flipper, a gas cylinder, a tin barrel, pieces of fishing nets, fishing lines with hooks, and countless cans and bottles joined the pile of garbage on the shore.

“A real flea market,” divers evaluated their trophies. In their opinion, the “maximum program” was executed perfectly: the reservoir and the coastal strip are ready to receive vacationers.

There is also such a holiday on our planet as the International Day for Cleaning Water Reservoirs. The main event of this day is a large-scale subbotnik. Since 1995, it has been held in many countries of the world under the auspices of PADI - the professional Association of diving instructors. The PADI representative office also operates in Russia.

On the territory of Russia, the International Day for Cleaning Water Reservoirs appeared eight years later than in the whole world - in 2003. The date has also changed. Abroad, the event takes place in early autumn, and in Russia, where in many regions climatic conditions more severe, - on the first Sunday of June. This is the official date, but sometimes the Saturday work can completely capture the first weekend of June.

Main ideological inspirers, organizers and participants of the "festive events" of the International Day of Water Cleanup in Russia - divers. On this day, regional diving clubs go to local water bodies to clean the shores and the bottom. In a number of cities, these events are held with the support of local administrations.

Participation in the Water Cleanup Day is voluntary. In order to support sports passion in people and give the community work spirit a holiday, competitions between teams are usually organized during cleanup work.

Day of cleaning water bodies in Russia what you need to know: methods of cleaning water bodies

Technogenic pollution of water bodies with oil products, domestic and industrial wastewater leads to disruption of the natural life of the hydroecosystem, its eutrophication, and a decrease in biodiversity and makes the reservoir dangerous for coastal ecosystems and impossible to use for recreation. These pollutants accumulate in the bottom sediments of water bodies. During summer season the bottom sediments warm up and the silt microorganisms release these substances, which immediately cause microalgae blooms. Rapid algal blooms lead to a rapid depletion of nutrients, and this leads to mass death microalgae, which do not have enough nutrients to feed.

The decomposition of a huge amount organic matter algae for short period time leads to a drop in the concentration of oxygen dissolved in water, and this causes fish to die and, as a result, leads to rotting of the water. In addition, blue-green algae blooms make the pond too poisonous for most organisms.

Traditional methods of combating biogenic pollution are very expensive and not always possible to use them. To restore ponds and small lakes, mechanical cleaning is usually used: first, water is pumped out, then bottom sediments are mechanically removed, after which they line the bottom with special water-resistant clay - if necessary, cover the bottom with sand and gravel and refill the reservoir with water. This very expensive but radical method has a number of disadvantages. Many bodies of water cannot be cleaned in this way, because it is sometimes impossible to pump water from big lake or from a lake fed groundwater, and in other cases, it is undesirable to use heavy equipment on the reservoirs of ancient historical parks, etc. In such cases, it is possible A complex approach to clean up the reservoir, or in other words - to restore its ecosystem. For example, it is possible to create water circulation, remove bottom sediments, saturate water with oxygen, artificially change the species composition of microorganisms, etc.

Thus, for degraded water bodies: overgrown, silted and covered with duckweed, measures are needed to restore their ecosystems and, as a result, improve water quality.
